Accessories Inserting Batteries in
the Remote Control
You have just pur hased a SAMSUNG DVD-VCR.
Together with your DVD-VCR, you will find the following
a essories in the box.
You must insert or repla e the batteries in the remote
ontrol when you:
• Pur hase the DVD-VCR
• Find that the remote ontrol is no longer working
orre tly
1Push the tab in the dire tion of the arrow to
release the battery ompartment over on the
rear of the remote ontrol.
2Insert two AAA, RO3 or equivalent batteries,
taking are to respe t the polarities:
• + on the battery with + on the remote ontrol
• – on the battery with – on the remote ontrol
• Do not mix different battery types
(manganese and alkaline for example).
3Repla e the over by aligning it with the base of
the remote ontrol and pushing it ba k into
pla e.

You will enjoy high quality images. S-Video seperates
the pi ture element into bla k and white(Y) and
olour(C) signals to present learer images than regular
video input mode.
1Conne t one end of the S-Video able into the
S-VIDEO output ja k on the rear of the DVD-VCR.
2Plug the other end of the S-Video able into the
appropriate input onne tor on the television.
3Conne t one end of the audio ables supplied into
the AUDIO LINE output ja ks on the rear of the
DVD-VCR.
• Take are to respe t the olour oding of the left
and right hannels.
4Plug the other end of the audio ables into the
appropriate input onne tors on the television.

Connecting DVD-VCR
to the TV using the
Audio/Video Cable
You an onne t your DVD-VCR to the television
using the Audio/Video able if the appropriate input
is available on the television. You thus:
• Obtain better quality sound and pi tures
• Simplify the setting up pro edure of your DVD-VCR
1Conne t one end of the Audio/Video able to
the Video output and Audio output ja k on the
rear of the DVD-VCR.
2Plug the other end into the appropriate
onne tor on the television.
Regardless of the type of onne tion hosen,
you must always onne t the Audio/Video Cable
supplied. Otherwise, no pi ture will be visible on
the s reen when the DVD-VCR is swit hed off.
Make sure that both the television and the
DVD-VCR are swit hed off before onne ting
the ables.

Video Cable (DVD Only)
Your TV must support progressive s an input to allow
you to wat h omponent video output.
You will enjoy high quality a urate olour reprodu tion
images. Component video seperates the pi ture
element into bla k and white(Y), blue(Pb), red(Pr) signals
to present most lear and lean images.
1Conne t Component video ables between the
COMPONENT VIDEO OUT ja ks on the rear of
the DVD-VCR and COMPONENT VIDEO IN ja ks
on the rear of the TV.
2Conne t audio ables between the AUDIO LINE
OUT ja ks on the rear of the DVD-VCR and
AUDIO IN ja ks on the rear of the TV.

❚Progressive Scan
If the TV onne ted supports Progressive S an,
press the PROGRESSIVE button on the front panel
in stop mode.
• The Progressive S an feature is only available
for DVD. A tivate it in DVD Stop mode.
• The message “Press OK to onfirm Progressive
s an mode. Otherwise press RETURN.” will be
displayed. If you want Progressive s an mode,
sele t OK. Make sure that the dis has stopped
ompletely before hanging the mode.
• To an el the progressive s an mode, press the
PROGRESSIVE button in stop mode.
• Make sure that the olour oded onne tions
mat h. That is, the Y, Pband Promponent
output ja ks of your DVD -VCR should be
onne ted to the exa t orresponding omponent
input ja ks on your TV. Otherwise, red or blue
images will be displayed on the TV s reen.
If your TV does not have Progressive s an
mode, there will be no signal on the s reen.
If you press the PROGRESSIVE button, it
will be hanged to Interla e s an mode.
See your TV User’s Manual to find out if
your TV supports Progressive S an.
If Progressive S an is supported, follow the
TV User’s instru tions regarding
Progressive S an settings in the TV’s menu
system.
Depending on your TV, the method of
onne tion may differ from the illustration
above.
What is "Progressive S an"?
Progressive s an has twi e as many
s anning lines as the interla e output
method has. Progressive s anning method
an provide better and learer pi ture
quality.
You must onne t the player to the
omponent(s) before using the Progressive
S an feature.
Use the Component Video onne tion
method only for the DVD.
NTSC DVD disk is not supported.

amplifier with the
digital input jack
To take full advantage of the movie theater experien e
that DVD offers, you may want to onne t your DVD-
VCR to a omplete Surround Sound system, in luding
an A/V Re eiver and six Surround Sound speakers.
If your A/V re eiver is equipped with a Dolby Digital
De oder, you have the option to bypass the DVD-VCR’s
built-in Dolby Digital De oder. Use the Digital Audio Out
onne tion below.
To enjoy Dolby Digital or DTS sound, you must set up
the audio settings. (See page 29)

DVD-VCR to their orresponding Digital Audio
Input ja ks on your A/V Re eiver:

external devi es and view or re ord their outputs.
• Conne ting a VCR, Set-Top Box(STB) or DVD-VCR
to the AUDIO/VIDEO LINE IN 1 ja ks.

LINE IN 1 ja ks of the DVD-VCR.

The DVD-VCR allows you to opy the ontents of a
DVD to a VHS tape with a press of the COPY button.
• If the DVD you are attempting to opy is opy
prote ted, you will not be able to opy the dis . It is
not permitted to opy Ma rovision® en oded DVDs.

Insert the dis you wish to opy in the DVD de k
and lose the drawer.

Insert a blank VHS videotape into the VCR de k.

Press the COPY button on the DVD-VCR front
panel.
• The DVD will go into Play mode and the VCR
will go into Re ord mode.
• If the DVD dis menu appears, you may need to
press the PLAY button manually to begin
opying.

When the DVD is finished playing, press the VCR
button on the remote ontrol and then press the
STOP button to end the opy.
• You must stop the Copy pro ess manually when
the DVD movie ends or the DVD may replay and
re ord over and over again.

You must set the date and time when :

• Do not forget to reset the time when you hange
lo ks from winter to summer time and vi e versa.

Before re ording or playing ba k a assette, you an
sele t the required system standard.
Otherwise, the system automati ally sele ts the
re eption standard when you sele t AUTO.
• When you playba k an NTSC-re orded tape on this
DVD-VCR make a setting on the olour system
a ording to your TV. If your TV is a PAL system only
TV, set NTPB. If your TV is multi system TV (NTSC
4.43 ompatible), set NT4.43 and you an re ord
NT4.43.

Control
This feature allows you to adjust the sharpness of the
image automati ally, a ording to your own preferen es.
1During playba k press the MENU button, then
Press the OK or √button.
2Press the …or †button to sele t User Set, then
Press the OK or √button.
The User Set menu is displayed.
3Press the …or †button to sele t IPC (Intelligent
Pi ture Control), then press the OK or √button to
sele t IPC option.
• You an sele t the modes simply by pressing
the IPC button.
4To adjust the sharpness manually, press the
†button to turn the IPC mode OFF.
The sharpness of the pi ture is adjusted manually.
Press the œor √buttons until the pi ture is
displayed a ording to your preferen es.

Auto Power off
This feature automati ally turns off your DVD-VCR if no
signal is re eived and you do not press any button for the
sele ted time.

interval.

Selecting the Cassette
Type
If you wish to use the tape ounter to display the time
remaining on a assette, you must indi ate the type of
assette inserted.
1Press the MENU button, then press the …or †
button to sele t VCR.
2Press the OK or √button.
The Tape Select is sele ted.
3Press the OK or √button to sele t the orre t
assette length.

Screen Messages
Your DVD-VCR displays most information both the
DVD-VCR and the television.
You an hoose to display or hide this information on the
television s reen (ex ept for the sear h, programming
menu and timer fun tions, whi h annot be hidden).

VCR Functions
To re-re ord over a prote ted assette (safety
tab broken), over the hole with adhesive
tape.
Note
Video assettes have a safety tab to prevent a idental
erasure. When this tab has been removed, you annot
re ord on the tape.
1If you wish to prote t a assette, break off the tab
using a small s rewdriver.
Selecting the
Recording Speed
You an re ord a assette at two different speeds:
• SP (Standard Play)
• LP (Long Play)
In Long Play modes:
• Ea h assette lasts twi e as long
• The re ording is of a slightly lower quality
1Press the SPEED button on the remote ontrol to
sele t SP or LP.
The sele ted re ord speed will appear on the front
panel display.

You an opy a assette to your DVD-VCR from another
video sour e, su h as another VCR or a Cam order et .
• It is an infringement of opyright laws to opy
prere orded assettes or to re-re ord them in any
form without the permission of the owners of the
orresponding opyright.
1Conne t the output ja k of your External
devi es to the LINE IN 1 on the rear of the
DVD-VCR.
2Insert a blank assette in your DVD-VCR.
3Insert the pre-re orded assette in the other video
sour e (VCR or Cam order et ).
4Press the INPUT SEL. button to sele t the
appropriate input on your DVD-VCR:
• LINE IN 1 for the audio/video input
5Start playing ba k the assette to be opied.
6Hold down the REC (●) button for a while to start
re ording on your DVD-VCR.
7When you have finished re ording, press the
■button on both VCR and DVD-VCR.
• If you wish to view the assette being opied, your
DVD-VCR must be onne ted as usual to the
television (refer to page 11 for further details).
Recording from Another
VCR or Camcorder
Using the Assemble
Edit Function
This fun tion allows you to start a new re ording at a
spe ifi position on the assette while
maintaining a very smooth s ene hange.
1Insert the assette to be edited in your DVD-VCR.
2Press the √ll button to start playba k.
3When you rea h the position from whi h you wish
to start the new re ording, press the √ll button.
4Press the F.ADV/STEP button as often as
ne essary to advan e frame by frame, until the
exa t re ording position is lo ated.
5While the DVD-VCR is in still mode, hold down the
REC (●) button for a while to a tivate the
assemble edit fun tion.
6Sele t the sour e from whi h you wish to re ord
by pressing:
• The INPUT SEL. button for the LINE IN 1
input sour e.
7Press the √ll button to start re ording.
When you have finished re ording, press the
■button.
