1SETUP AND COPYING
This chapter describes the preliminary setup procedure. A full
installation instruction is explained in the separate Installation
Guide. If you are installing or reinstalling the machine from
the beginning, refer to the Installation Guide provided with
the machine.

Loading Paper
To receive faxes or make copies, you should load the paper in
the ASF (Automatic Sheet Feeder). You can load
approximately 100 sheets of paper.
1Pull the Paper Support on the ASF all the way up.
2Before loading papers, push down the blue Paper
Lever.
Failure to do so will result in paper jams while copying
or receiving a fax.
3Fan the papers and insert them into the ASF with the
print side facing up.
4Squeeze the Paper Guide,andmove it to the right to
match the width of the paper.
5When completed, replace the Paper Lever to its
original position.
Before loading the papers, see if the paper size is set
correctly in the System Setup. To change it, ”System
Setup Options” on page 6−8.

You Now have learned what features each button covers. Now,
let’s begin setting up your information such as fax name/number
and date/time.
There are two levels of setup:
•Basic: Information such as fax name/number and date/time which must be entered before
using the machine. (See page 1−8.)
•Advanced: The variables you can set up while using the machine depending on your liv−
ing area and preferences such as language and ring to answer, etc. (See page 6−8.)
We strongly recommend that you do not start the Advanced setup until you have read through
the User’s Guide to make yourself familiar with the machine.

Setting FAX Number/Name
If thisoption is not
selectable as well as
Multiple ID even though
youfollowedthe
described steps, you
have to consult the ser−
vice technician or your
dealer.
FAX Number/Name (Your Number and
Name)
This is very useful information for the recipient. It allows
them to see who sent a fax and what number they should send
a response to. You can choose from up to five IDs (Multiple
ID), using different IDs for different recipients. To use
Multiple ID, you must first set this option to ON (see “User
Options”onpage6−7.)
1Press Setup.
2Press < or > to choose ‘FAX NUMBER/NAME’ and
press Start/Enter.
3Press Start/Enter when display shows ‘FAX
NUMBER’.
4Enter the fa number to which your machine is
connected.
•Youcanenterupto20digits,andincludespecial
characters (space, plus sign, etc.)
•To enter a space, press Redial/Pause or #.
•To enter plus symbol ( ), press *.
•If you enter a wrong number, use < or > to move to the
number and correct it.
5Press Start/Enter when finished.
6Press Start/Enter when display shows ‘FAX NAME’.
7Enter the fa name (upto40characters)byusingthe
number keypad.
You can include special characters (space, plus sign,
etc.).
8Press Start/Enter when the name in the display is
correct. When Multiple ID is on and you want Multiple
ID, repeat from step 7 after answering ‘Y’ to
‘ANOTHER ID?’.
The machine returns to Standby Mode when you have
finished or when Stop has been pressed.

How to Enter Letters
Note these instructions
assume that the display
is asking you to enter a
name.
1Press the appropriate button for the letter you want.
The letter appears in the display.
•To enter an O, for example, press the 6 button three
times. Each time you press the button, the display
shows a different letter: first M, then N, and O, and
finally 6.
•For a list of letters and corresponding buttons, see
"Keypad Character Assignments" below.
2Select additional letters in the same way.
The blinking cursor moves right and the next letter
appears in the display.
•If the additional letter is in the middle of or at the end
of the letters assigned to the button you have pressed,
move the cursor by pressing < or > , then press that
button.
3Press Start/Enter when you’re finished entering letters.

3Press Start/Enter when the display shows ‘DATE
FORMAT’.
4Press < or > to select either ‘EURO E’ or ‘USA’ and
press Start/Enter.
5Press Start/Enter when the display shows ‘TIME/
DATE’.
•If you chose USA format, the date will be displayed as
MM−DD−YYYY HH:MM, for example, 03−20−1999
10:20.
•If you chose EUROPE format, the date will be dis−
played as DD−MM−YYYY HH:MM, for example, 20−
03−1999 10:20.
6Set the date and time. You can move the cursor by
pressing < or >.
•If you enter an invalid number, the machine beeps and
doesn’t proceed to the next step. If this happens, just
re−enter the correct number.
DD (Day) = 01~31
MM (Month)= 01~12
YYYY (Year) = four digits
HH (Hour) = 00~23
MM (Minute) = 00~59
7Press Start/Enter when the date and time appear
correctly.
•The display shows the date and time you have set, then
returns to Standby Mode.

Recording TAM1Message (SF−3200T only)
The TAM (Telephone Answering Machine) message is an
outgoing message (OGM) which plays whenever a call comes
in and the machine is in TAM Mode. For more information
about reception modes, see “Reception Modes” on page 3−6.
1Press and hold OGM until you hear a beep.
The display starts counting the recording time.
2Speak into the microphone when ‘RECORD’ appears
in the display. Make sure that you are within a 30cm
range.
You can record a message which lasts up to 60 seconds.
•You are advised to record a message of less than 15
seconds in duration to prevent the incoming faxes from
malfunctioning due to a long message.
•Press Stop or OGM if you want to stop recording
before the time is up.
•After the message has been recorded, the machine
briefly displays the date and time when the message
was recorded. Then, it displays the elapsed time as the
message plays back automatically.
Now, you are ready to use the TAM recep−
tion mode. To learn more about the
answering machine, see chapter 4 “The
Answering Machine”.

Making a Copy
Your machine has two kinds of copying; page−to−page and
2−up.
If you want to save ink
while copying or receiv−
ing a fax, see “Copying/
Receiving in Save Ink
Mode” on page 1−14.
•Page−to−page: Copies the original document page by
page.
•2−up (Paper Save): Copies two pages into one page
after reduction.
This helps you save the paper. Prior to using this fea−
ture, you have to activate it by following steps:
Activating 2−up Copy
1Press Paper.
The display shows the current setting such as ‘ON’ or
‘OFF’.
2Press Paper repeatedly until the display shows ‘ON’
and waits until the machine returns to the Standby
mode.
Now,everycopywillbeprintedby2−upunlessyou
change the mode to ‘OFF’ in this step.
Making a 2−up Copy
1Turnthepagefacedownandinsertitintothe
document feeder.
2Adjust the document guide to match the width of the
document.
3Feed the document into the machine. The automatic
document feeder pulls in the page.
If necessary, press Rcv.Mode/Contrast to choose the
desired contrast for the document.

4Press Copy.
The machine will immediately start copying the first
sheet (odd page) on the left−half of the page while
displaying ‘CO Y[2−U ] 1/2’. If there is another sheet
(even page), it will be printed on the right−half of the
page while displaying ‘CO Y[2−U ] 2/2’.
That is, ‘1/2’ appears at the end of the display when
copying odd pages, and ‘2/2’ for even pages.
Making a Page−to−Page Copy
Following instructions assume that the 2−up copying mode is
OFF.
1Turnthepagefacedownandinsertitintothe
document feeder.
2Adjust the document guide to match the width of the
document.
3Feed the document into the machine. The automatic
document feeder pulls in the page.
4Press Copy.
The display shows ‘NUMBER OF CO IES’.
•If you want two or more copies, press Start/Enter and
enter the number.
•If you want to change copy rate,select COPY RATE by
pressing < or > and Start/Enter. You can scale the
document from 75% to 150% by entering the number,
and this change will remain on the non−volatile mem−
ory and affect every copy you are going to make. The
default copy rate is 97%.
•If you want one copy at preset copy rate, press Copy
again and skip step 5 below.
5Press Start/Enter when the number on the display is
correct.
Copying begins. The display shows the page number
that is being copied.

When the machine runs out of paper, ‘CHECK A ER’ appears in the display.
Supply additional paper and press Start/Enter, then the machine will:
− copy remaining pages →multiple copy
− ignore remains and the original document will be fed out →one copy and 2−up copy

Copying/Receiving in Save Ink Mode
Your machine has a Save Ink mode to optimize consumption
of ink when copying and receiving a fax.
1Press Ink.
The display shows the current setting such as ‘ON’ or
‘OFF’.
2Press Ink repeatedly until the display shows ‘ON’
and wait until the machine returns to the Standby mode.
The button backlights to indicate Save Ink mode is
active. From now on, every printout will consume less
ink.
•In Save Ink mode, ink consumes 30% less than in nor−
mal mode.
•If you think the print quality is not good as you
expected, exit the Save Ink mode and print in normal
mode.
