This unit is designed to operate on 12 volts DC, NEGATIVE ground electrical systems only.
When fuse replacement is necessaty, use only a 10 amp fuse. Do not replace with ahigher rated fuse. If the
fuse blows often, carefully check all electrical connections for any short circuits and have your car’s voltage
ragulatorchecked also. Do notattempt to repair the unitby yourself; return the unitforservicing to your nearest
SANYO car audio dealer.
The highly-polished playback head should not come into contact with any metatlic or magnetic tools.
Clean the tape head, pinchroller, and capstans at least once amonth using aquality audio head-cleaning cas-
sette.
To avoid possible system trouble, do not use tapes with wrinkfed or half-peeled labels.

tis recommended that You remove and carry the front panel with you when you leave your car.

HOW TO DETACH FRONT PANEL {

~Push the release knob (REL) to release the front panel.
~Pull the entire panel to remove it from the unit.

REPLACEMENT
Align the left side of the panel with the stopper, -
and then push the rightside of the panel into the FRONT PAN I
unit until it clicks.
Note
The unit will not operate with the front panel incorrectly installed.

CAUTION
.Do not attempt to remove the panel in amanner other than that described above.
●When installing the panel, do not force it into the unit.
oDo not touch the connection terminals of the panel or the unit. It may cause poor contact
●Lfse aclean, dry cloth when cleaning the terminals.
●Keep the panel out of direct sunlight and high temperatures.
●Prevent the panel from coming into contact with benzine, thinner, or insecticides.
●Do not drop the panel.

TAPE OPERATION
SELECTING TAPE MODE
Insert acassette into the tape slot@ and the tape player will start.
With atape inserted, pressing button@ switches directly to tape mode from either radio or CD*
mode. *FXC-503LD only
SWITCHING THE TAPE DIRECTION . . . . . . . . . . 3,4
Press buttons @and@ simultaneously.
●When the tape reaches the end of one side, the unit will automatically switch to the oppsite side ofthe tape.
FAST FORWARD AND REWIND . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3,4
Press button @to fast-forward; press button @to rewind the tape.
After fast forwarding, lightly press the rewind button to piaythe tape; afler rewinding lightlypress the fast forward
bunon to play the tape.
During fast forward and rewind, the radio monitor is activated. The unit receives the last tuned radio station.
To cancel radio monitoring, press button@ during radio monitoring.
EJECTING ATAPE ......................... 5
Press button @to eject atape.
●The display will switch to clock mode after the tape has been ejected.

Manual tuning ... .. . Tosefect higher hquency stations, press the @button (for less than 0.5 seconds).
To select lower frequency stations, press thee button.
Toquickly scan up or down in frequency, press and hold tha @or ebutton. Release
and press again the button when the desired frequency appears on the display.
●Aflashing decimal point inthe frequency display indicates that the system is receiving
astation 50 kf-lz higher than the dispfayed frequency.
Automatic tuning ... Press the @or@ button for more than 0.5 seconds.
When the button is released, the system will start automatic tuning and stop at the next
receivable station.
STORING PRESET STATIONS . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3
rhe preset buttonscan be used to store 6stations in each band (FM1, FM2, MW and LW) for quick tuning.

ATP (AUTO TRAVEL PRESET)

$/ith this function,the systemsearches for and memorizes the 6strongest stations in one of the three bands
~FMl, FM2, MW) in order of signal strength.
rhis feature isusefulwhen you are driving in an unfamiliar location and want to memorize Iocaf stations without
:hanging the standard preset stations.
4total of 12 statism (6 FM and 6MW) can be programmed.
,To set the stations . . . . . . . . ❑Select the desired band.
❑’Press and hold button C@for more than 1.5 seconds. “AS” will appear
in the display.
When the stations have been memorized, scanning will stop and the
strongest station will be received.

Quick Tuning of ATP Stations
●Select the desired band.
.Press button @if the “AS indicator does notappear in the display.
●Press preset button @to select the desired ATP preset. Ifatotal of
six stations cannot be pres%t”- --“ will be displayed forthe empty
channels.
●TO scan programmed stations . . . See “PRESET-SCAN-BUTTON OPERATION”.

●/f no station can be received, “- - -“ will appear in the display. The system will tune
into the station which was being received before the ATP function was selected.
●[f there are less than 6stations which can be received, the system will memorize these
stations and start receiving the one memorized tkst.
PRESET-SCAN-BUTTON OPERATION . . . . . . . 5
This function scans each ofthe preset stations stored in the selected band (both manual presets andauto travel
presets).
●To scan .....❑Select the desired band or ATP mode. Press button @for FM1, FM2, MW or LW band, or
press button @for less than 0.5 seconds for ATP mode.
❑Press button o. The system will sequentially receive each preset station for5seconds.
❑To hold the station, press button@ again during this five second period.
SWITCHING BETWEEN LOCAL STATIONS
AND DISTANT STATIONS (DX) . . . . . . . . . ... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6
Each time button @is pressed (for less than 0.5 seconds), the search stop sensitivity willbe switchedbetween
local and distant stations.

This is afunction to playtracks or discs in random order.
●“Shufffe-playing”tracks; . . . . . . . . . . . . PreS” button@. The system wiffp4aytracks on the current disc in ran-
dom order.
●“Shuffle-playing” cfisc=x. . . . . . . . . . . . . Press button @again. The system will select adisc at random and
play all tracks on that disc. When all trackshave been played, the next
disc will be selected and “shufffe-play” will be repeated.
To cancel this mcde, fmss button ~again.
The system will remain in this mode until it is cancelled.

Note
Toreturn from the track shuffle mode directly to the normalplay mode, press button@ twice
successively. /fan interval exists after pressing once, the unit wiil go into the disc shuffle
mode and you have to wait for several seconds before pressing again.
SCAN MODE (PLAYING THE BEGINNING

This function @ays the first 10 seconds of each track or disc sequentially.
●Playing the beginningof tracks . . . . . Press button @to play the first 10 seconds of each track on the cur-
(Track Scan) rent disc in order.
●Playing the beginningof discs ......Press button @again to play the first 10 seconds of each disc in the
(Disc Scan) magazine.
To cancel this mode, press button@ again.
The system will remain in this mcde until it is cancelled

Insert the mounting bracket into the DIN-standard cutout (182 x 53 mm) in the dashboard or console,
Bend the mounting bracket stopper outwards until the bracket fits snugly in the cutout.
Install the supplied mounting screw (M5) in the audio unit.
Cover the mounting screw with the supplied rubber cap.
Push the unit into mounting bracket until it locks in place.

Caution

●Connect this wire to the +12V power terminai which receives power continuously. ~
+12V Accessory/Switched (Red)
●Connect this wire to the terminal which receives power while the ignition switch isON orinthe ACCESSO-
RY @sition.
●In the case of avehicle not having ACC, connect thiswire to a+1 2V power terminal which receives power
continuously. (Same as terminal 2.)
Ground wire (Black)
●Connect this wire to the vehicfe chassis.
Power Antenna/Amplifier Turn On (Blue/Red)
●Connect this wire to the controi terminal of aPower Antenna or an extemai amplifier.
●When not using aPower Antenna or an exfemai amplifier, this wire is not connected.

●When using atwo-speaker installation, set the FADER control to the center position.
●When not using aPower Antenna/External Amplifier, cover the end ot the Blue/Red wire with
electrical tape to prevent it from shorting to the unit or vehicle chassis.
●When using atwo-speaker installation, the Violet, Gray/Black, Green and White/Black wires,
which are used for afour-speaker installation, are not used. The ends of these wires must be cov-
ered with electrical tape to prevent them from shorting to the unit or vehicle chassis.

the blown fuse by using pliers. Then install the
new 10 amp fuse.
LINE OUT/CD CHANGER CONNECTIONS(FXC-SOSLD Only)
●Since this unit hasa CD changer controller end output terminals, you can use-a CD changer and an amplifier
to upgrade your vehicle stereo system.
CD Changer Rear Speaker

●Connect the DIN socket to the CD c~anger using aDIN cable (8 pin) which is supplied with the “FXD-C200
(1O-disc)”,and the‘FXD-C100 (6-disc)” CD changer.
RCA Line-out Jacks (For Rear Speakers)
●Connect the Red (rearright channel) and White (rear leftchannel) RCAline-out jacksto each of the inputtermi-
nals of the external amplifier for the rear speakers.
