Navigating the Scanner
The power on and off button (A) is located on the top right of the handheld.
B
The orange button (B) in the center and two black buttons on the sides of the Scan-
ner will activate the bar code reader.
!
Two short cut buttons (C) that launch Scan Genius are located to the right and left
of the orange scan button.
!
!
Turn on the scanner by pushing the red button on the upper right. The scanner will
display the most recently accessed screen. The scanner automatically shuts itself off
to conserve battery power.
!
Tap the screen with the stylus or your finger to navigate the scanner.
!
Press the house button (D) on the bottom left of the screen to access the Scanner
home page (E).

Charging the Scanner
The battery icon (A) on the Scanner home page indicates the amount of battery
charge available. When fully charged, the scanner will operate for eight hours.
!
If the battery is charged less than 25 percent, return the scanner to the cradle. If
you run out of battery power, the information on your scanner will be erased. There
is no need to run the battery down before recharging, and you cannot overcharge
the battery by leaving it in the cradle.

Accessing the Scan Genius Menu
Tap the Scan Genius icon (A) on the Scanner home page or push one of the
two shortcut buttons to open the Scan Genius menu (B). You are given four
options: Inventory/Ordering, Scan Now, Shelf Tags and Edit Shelf Data. (Note: If
you press the “-“ to the right hand side of the orange bar, it will quick launch
ordering software)

After choosing one of these options, exit is always displayed in the upper right
corner of each screen. Tap Exit to return to the previous screen.

Navigating the Ordering Screen
Tap Ordering (A) on the Scan Genius menu. Ordering displays the suppliers you have
loaded onto the scanner. If you have scanned your order, the total cost of the order is
displayed (B).
!
Use the scroll bar (C) to see any suppliers that might be hidden.
!
Tap a supplier’s name to highlight an order. The number of that supplier and the
total number of suppliers on the Scanner is displayed in the bottom right corner (D).
!
Tap Exit (E) to return to the Scan Genius menu.
!
Note: *Asterisk indicates supplier has LN exclusive deals.
!

Ordering

A
Vendor
Tap a supplier to highlight. Tap Vendor (A). The supplier information screen
displays contact information for that supplier. Minimum order information and the
current order number are also displayed. To view the previous or next supplier on
your list, tap the arrows (B).

Memo
Tap Memo (C) to view the order’s description if you added one using your PC.
!
See Orders under the Orders Action Menu in the Orders Menu section for more
information.

Tap Exit (D) to return to the Inventory/Ordering screen.

Defaults
Tap Defaults (A) to change the scanner’s settings.
Default Scan Field
The default scan field is the field your cursor will populate after you scan a product.
Front is the amount of inventory you have on the shelf. Back is the amount of
inventory you have in back-stock. Order is the amount you want to order.
!
Tap Front, Back or Order to set your default scan field (B). You should tap Front or
Back if you want to use the algorithm function.
!
Auto addition
Check the auto addition box (C) to allow cumulative scanning by adding the
current user input to previously scanned quantities.
!
Increment quantity on screen
Tap the increment quantity on scan check box (D) to activate single click scanning.
Each scan will automatically order a single unit. Each repeat scan of a product will
increase the order quantity by one unit.
!
To return to normal scan mode, uncheck the box to deactivate single click
scanning.
!
Primary distributor
The primary distributor you assigned on the PC will be set as default. Click the box
Change Primary Distributor (E) to open a window to choose which distributor is set
as primary. Scanned items that are common to both distributors will automatically
be assigned to the primary.

Tap Exit to return to the Inventory/Ordering screen.
!
!
Scan SKU
Highlight the distributor you want to scan by SKU.
!
Tap the Scan SKU check box (F) to activate. A check mark will appear. Note: You can
switch between UPC and SKU while scanning without changing a setting from the
Scan screen.
!
You may only scan by SKU for one supplier at a time. To scan by SKU for a different
supplier, highlight the other supplier. The Scan SKU box will be empty. Tap the
check box to activate Scan SKU for the new supplier.

Stocked
To check for items that are stocked but were not scanned, highlight the supplier
and tap Stocked (A).
!
If the supplier has categories, a list of categories will appear (B). Tap a category to
view the items stocked but not scanned in that category. To view all of the
categories, tap All Categories (C) to view all items stocked but not scanned for
that supplier.
!
If the supplier does not have categories, the screen will automatically display all of
the items that are stocked but not scanned (D). The number not scanned is listed at
the bottom of the scroll bar (E).

To order the item, tap on the product name. The order screen will appear. Enter the
quantity. Tap exit to return to the Stocked Not Scanned list or scan the next
product to continue ordering.

List Items
Highlight a supplier. Tap List Items (A) to display all the items ordered for that
supplier. The quantity ordered is displayed next to the item (B).
!
To highlight any item, tap the product name. The number of the item highlighted
and the total number of items ordered is shown on the bottom right of the screen
(C). Use the scroll bar to view any items that might be hidden.
!
The order total is shown at the bottom (D).
!

Show SKU
To view items by SKU, check the Show SKU box (E).
Delete
To delete an item, highlight the item. Tap Delete (F). Tap Yes in the confirmation
box.

Edit
To change the quantity ordered of an item, highlight the item. Tap Edit (G) to open
the Scan screen.
!
Enter the new quantity and tap Exit to return to the items list.
Page Partitions
If you have page partitions enabled for the supplier, the list defaults to page 1. To
view another page, tap the arrow (H). Tap the page number you want to display or
click all. Each page will only display the items assigned to it. If you choose to view
all of the items, the item’s page number will be to the left of the item name.

Tap Exit to return to the Inventory/Ordering screen.

Navigating the Scan Screen
Tap Scan Now (A) on the Scan Genius menu. You can also tap Scan on the
Inventory/ Ordering screen. Note: After you begin ordering, you will never see
“Ready to Scan.” The screen will default to the last item scanned.
!
The Scan screen (B) will default to the highlighted supplier on the Ordering screen.
However, you can scan products for any supplier you have loaded on the scanner.
The system will automatically put a scanned product in the correct supplier’s order.
!
The supplier will appear on the top left. The default scan field is highlighted.
!
Tap Order, Front or Back to highlight the field. Use the keypad to enter the
quantity in the highlighted field. Tap CE to clear all digits entered into the
highlighted field. Tap the arrow to delete the last digit entered in the highlighted
field.
!
Order
A B Order is the amount of the item you want to order.
Front and Back
Front is the amount of the item you have on the shelf. Back is the amount of the
item you have in back-stock.
!
Minimum
The minimum order to purchase is displayed and highlighted on the scanner. If an
order amount is entered that is less than the required minimum, the minimum field
will remain highlighted.
!
PrevOrd
PrevOrd shows how many, if any, of the item was ordered in the previous order.
PrevInv
PrevInv shows how many, if any, of the item was previously inventoried.
Page
Page partitions mimic old MSI scanners for participating suppliers. Page partitions
must be enabled on the PC to be operate on the scanner. The scanner defaults to
page 1. Pages are displayed on the Scan screen on the left of the 7 key. To set a
page for a department or aisle, tap the down arrow. To select a page, tap the arrows
to find the page number. Tap the page number. Scanned products will then be
stored on that page. Up to 30 pages are available.

Cost/Ea or Cost/Cs
The cost for each UPC is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
Total
A running total for the supplier order is shown underneath the item cost.

A
Scanning a Bar Code
To scan orders, aim the front end of the scanner toward a bar code on the product
or on a shelf tag. Keep the scanner 2-4 inches away from the barcode for best
scanning results.
!
Push any one of the three buttons on the scanner to activate the laser. You will hear
at least one tone when the barcode was scanned successfully.
!
The name of the product will be displayed. (A) The cursor will be blinking in the
default scan field. Use the keypad to tap in the quantity.
!
Repeat these steps for all the products you want to order. You can scan products
B in any order. The system will automatically put a scanned product in the correct
supplier’s order.
!
New Items
You will hear three tones if the item scanned is a new item. The scanner will display
“New” (B). The new status will display for 90 days. Scanned new items are identified
on the order on your PC with an asterisk (*).

Sale Items
You will hear three tones if the item scanned is on sale. The scanner will display
“Sale.”
!
Tap the word Sale (A) on the screen.
!
Sale details will appear on the Specials screen. Tap Exit (B) to return to the Scan
screen.

Items with Price Changes
You will hear three tones if the item scanned has a price change. The scanner will
display “Price” (C). Price changes will appear in the system for 30 days. Scanned
items with price changes are identified on the order on your PC with a #.

Scanning a Bar Code (Continued)
Discontinued Items
You will hear five tones if the item scanned is discontinued. The scanner will display
“Disc” (F). Discontinued items can still be ordered, but they may not ship depend-
ing on the suppliers supply. Discontinued items are stored in the product database.

Case vs. Each Quantities
Some items have the same UPC for case and each quantities. The scanner defaults
to case. A single tone will sound when a common UPC for case or each is scanned.
The case quantity is displayed under Exit. To change the order from case to each,
tap the down arrow (B).
!
Tap EA (C) to change the order units. A single tone will sound. If the case is on sale,
but an each quantity is not, the sale flag will disappear. The minimum quantity may
also change.

Two Distributors
Products carried by both distributors will automatically be assigned to the primary
distributor unless the second distributor is assigned.
!
The arrow (A) next to the pack size indicates that the product is carried by both
distributors. To assign the scanned product to the second distributor, tap the arrow.
A screen will pop-up with both distributors listed (B).
!
When the secondary distributor’s name is tapped, the item will immediately be
assigned to it and the order field will be highlighted. Differences in prices or pack
amounts will also appear.
B
Enter the order amount and continue to scan. Subsequent products will continue
to be assigned to the primary distributor.
!
!
Living Naturally Exclusive Deals
Top suppliers in the industry have partnered with Living Naturally to provide
exclusive deals on many new and innovative products. As a Living Naturally
retailer you get exclusive access to these products. Scan Genius alerts you to
these products on the handheld when you are scanning. Products that offer
exclusive deals are
C indicated the LNDeal (C).
To see the specific details of the Living Naturally Exclusive Deal, tap on LNDeal and
a screen will display the information about the special (D). Use the scroll bar to view
the entire special.

Delete
To delete an item from the Scan screen, tap Del (A). Tap Yes (B) in the confirmation

Tag
While scanning, you may create a list of shelf tags or add to the list you have
scanned. To add an item to the shelf tags list, tap Tag (C) on the Scan screen.
!
The screen will display “Tag Saved”.The product will be saved to the shelf tag list.
!
Note: After the tag is saved, the tag saved flag will not appear on the screen
again. If you tap the tag oval again, you will add that item to the shelf tag list
again.

Detail
To see more details about a product while you are scanning, tap Detail (D). This
screen (E) displays item details stored in your product database including the
supplier’s item number, cost and minimum order information.

The previous six orders are also displayed with the amount ordered and the
inventory at the time of the order (if the inventory data was recorded).

Tap Exit (F) to return to the Scan screen.

UPC
You can look up a product by UPC or SKU number on your scanner. On the Scan
screen, tap UPC (A). To look up a UPC, use the keypad to type in the number
and tap Lookup UPC. If you want to use a SKU number, Scan Sku must be
enabled for the supplier.
!
Please refer to the Scan Sku in the Ordering section to set this option.
!
If the SKU has only numbers, use the keypad. To enter letters or symbols,
including dashes, tap either abc or 123 on the bottom of the scanner screen.
Tap either abc or 123 (B) to enter letters, numbers and symbols. Tap Done
when you are finished.
A Finally, tap Lookup UPC. The product will be displayed as if it was scanned.
Enter the order quantity to add the item to your order.

LN Exclusive Deals
!
Top suppliers in the industry have partnered with Living Naturally to provide
exclusive deals on many new and innovative products. As a Living Naturally retailer
you get exclusive access to these products. To view the products with deals tap on
the LN Exclusive Deals button (A).

The screen will show a list of suppliers that have ED (Exclusive Deals) from the
group of suppliers that got loaded to the scanner for ordering. The dollar total for
the order is listed along side the supplier. To view a distributor's EDs by category
C B tap the Category button (B). Then click the category to view the individual
products.
!
If the supplier is a direct, tap on the List Items button (C). A list of the individual
products offered as ED are listed. Use the scroll bar to view all the products. To view
the details of the deal, highlight a product and tap the Deal Detail button (D).
!
The detail window will display the product name and the promotion that goes
along with it (E). Use the scroll bar to view the full promotion. To place this
product on order, enter a quantity in the Enter Qty field (F). Use the keypad dis-
played on the screen. Item Detail G) will display information about the product
such as wholesale, SRP, SKU number, UPC number and order history.
!
Use the forward and backward arrows (H) to scroll through the list of ED products.
To view the list of products on the order use the Order List button (I). This will
display all the products that have been scanned and placed on order for the listed
supplier. The Home button (J) will jump back to the Scan Genius home page.

Shelf Tags

Scanning for Shelf Tags
To scan for tags with the shelf tag function, tap Shelf Tags (A) on the Scan
Genius menu to open the Shelf Tags screen (B). Begin scanning. Note: Scan the
products for shelf tags in the order you want them to appear at the shelf. They
will be listed and printed in that order.

Enable Lookup
The system defaults to enable lookup. The name of the scanned product is
displayed along with the UPC. Uncheck the box (C) to not display the name of the
B scanned product.
List
Use the arrows (D) to scroll through the labels or tap List (E).
!
Use the scroll bar to see the complete list. To return to an item in the list, tap the
item to highlight and tap Exit.
!
To delete a label from the list, tap the product to highlight. Tap Delete (F).
!
Delete all (G) will erase the entire list of scanned labels.
!

Downloading Shelf Labels
Shelf labels will automatically be unloaded to the portal each time you click “Load
and Unload”.
!
If you have only scanned for shelf labels, dock the scanner in the cradle and click
“Refresh”. Push the HotSync button on the cradle when prompted to do so. Next
click “Load and Unload”, push the HotSync button on the cradle when prompted
to do so. Your shelf labels will appear in the portal.

Inventory

Scanning for Inventory
Scan Genius provides a fast and efficient way to perform inventory in the store.
Place the scanner into Inventory mode by tapping on the Inventory button (A).
!
This screen is very similar to shelf tags with the difference being the option to
record a quantity (B). The same scroll feature and list options exist as on the shelf
tags screen. Scan the store and record your inventory.

Unload the Inventory
Inventory will automatically be unloaded to the portal each time you click “Load
and Unload”.
If you have only scanned for inventory, dock the scanner in the cradle and click
“Refresh”. Push the HotSync button on the cradle when prompted to do so.
Next click “Load and Unload”, push the HotSync button on the cradle when
prompted to do so. Your inventory will appear in the portal.

Go to www.mygeniuscentral.com and log in. Go to“Inventory Uploads” under the
“Orders” tab.

Rank your Distributors
Use this page to rank your distributors. Place the distributor that you order from
the most at the top, then the second one next and so on down the list. To move a
distributor in the list, highlight them by clicking on the name of the distributor in
the list and use one of the move up or down buttons to the right. Use the
“Inventory Date” drop down to select the inventory file you want to work with.
When you are finished click on the “Assign to Products” (B) button on the right. If
you have already done this step before, you can simply select your inventory from
the date list and click on “Assign to Products.”
