1 Introduction
The FINE-SPRAYgun W3/FZ-Duo isdesigned and constructed for finestapplication of thin materials
f.i. release agents,colours or other fluids of low viscosity.Depending on air cap thisspraygun spraysin
around- or flatspray.Spray gunsare precision tools. Always keep clean and observe minimum
instructionstomaintain a long usefullife ofthe gun.
2 Safety
2.1 Dutiesof the user
•The user must read thisoperating manual carefullybefore performing anyoperations.
•Applications and serviceoperations shouldnot be carried outif the user is not absolutelysure of
the purpose and consequence ofthe operations.
2.2 Definitive Use
The spraygun W3FZ-Duo isahigh performancespraygun;Itis suitablefor thinsprayable materials
f.i.release agents. Itis not suitable forspraying aggressive fluids,likeacids, alkaline solutions, cleaning
agents, chemicals.When you are notsure,ifyour fluidis suitablefor spraying please contactthe
manufacturer.
Warning!
Donot use anysolvents,cleaning liquids orcoating materialscontaining 1,1,1
Trichlormethane or Methylen Chloride i.e.agentsofthe group of chlorinated hydrocarbons.
These chemicalsmayreact with aluminium,anodised or zinced parts. The chemical
reaction may be explosive.
2.3 Warning against Danger
This operating manual warnsusers of operationswhich mayputtheir health atrisk.The warningsare
indicated bycombinations of text and symbols corresponding tothe different danger classes.

3 Function Description
Your newspraygun W3/FZ-Duo has been thoroughlytested before leaving the factory.No more
adjustmentis necessary prior tosetting up sprayoperation.If fluid output,however, requires to be
regulated individually,applyneedle regulator (24.1) and counter nut(23.1) for quantityoffluid flow.To
spraywithaspraygun definitevolumeofatomising air and adefinitepressureof materials is needed.
The needle willbe opened byactivating the triggerand the materialflowsout offromthe nozzle.The
air pressure atomises the material and forms itto ajet.
The needle function is: Opening bytrigger and closing byspring force.

3.1 Set upgun asfollows
•Connect Duo-hose (twinhose for atomising air and fluid) to material pressure tankor other
means of feeding fluid and to compressor.
Translucent part ofhose :for fluid(gun connection “M”)
Blue part ofhose :for atomising air (gun connection “AIR”)
•Setatomising air pressure to required spraydroplet sizes byreducing valve (notpartofthe
spraygun).
•Setmaterial pressure to required material outletand spraydropletsizes bya2. reducing valve
(notpart of the spraygun).
IMPORTANT!
Fluid outputcan be regulated individually,applyneedle regulator (24.1) and counter nut
(23.1) for quantityoffluid flow.
Turning needle regulator right :lessfluid flow
Turning needle regulator left : more fluid flow
When you are sureoffluidflowopen trigger (19.1). Sprayoperation starts. You willnotice that you
receive so called “pre-air” prior to opening fluid flowwhen pulling the trigger.When releasing trigger you
still have “purging-air” after needle has closed nozzle and fluid flowwasstopped.This preventsthat
fluid formsdrop instead ofthe desired atomisation.
IMPORTANT!
After sprayoperation give a shortperiod of time “pre-air” respectively“purging-air”. This
preventsthat material blocked the nozzle.
3.2 OperatingInformation
•Depending on viscosityoffluid nozzlebores are availablein0,2 ;0,3;0,5;0,8and 1,0mm ∅
(onlyone size ofair cap isrequired).
•Standard version of gun has flatspraypattern aircap with approx. 60°sprayangle (3.1.1).If
round sprayis required, justreplace air cap bya round sprayair cap (3.1.2).
•Flatsprayaircap can be positioned for horizontal, vertical oranyin between position ofjet. For
special air capswith other sprayangels please contactthe manufacturer.
CAUTION!
Never pointthe spraygun againstpersons.Wearing eyeprotecting is strongly
recommended.Sprayingprocedures cause noises depending on the used pressure. If
necessary,wearing of ear protection is recommended.
WARNING!
Danger caused bycombustible and noxious spraying material.Safetyinstructionson fluid
can and material data of fluid manufacturer mustdefinitelybe observed.
Don´tsmokewhen spraying paintsor solvents which have combustible properties.Allelectrical
installationswithin the spraying area mustbe explosion proof.Observe working safetyregulations in
respectof protective clothing (masks, clothing, ear protection,etc.).

4 Service
4.1 Cleaning
WARNING!
Danger caused bycombustible and noxious spraying material.Safetyinstructionson fluid
can and material data of fluid manufacturer mustdefinitelybe observed.
WARNING!
Before opening the spraygun it hasto be disconnected fromthe airsupplyand fromthe
material supply. Otherwise ejected elementscan cause danger.
To clean the gun, spraysolvent untilpure solvent leaves nozzle.Do notsubmerge entire gun in solvent.
At longer working interruptions itisadvisable to clean air cap and nozzle byputting these partsonlyinto
solvent. Ifnecessary,use softbrush. Toclean small drillhoses,use ourspecial nozzle cleaning
needles.Moving parts and threads shouldalways be greased slightly.
4.2 Changing nozzleset
Anozzle setincludes needle (1.1.1),nozzle (2.1.1) and air cap (3.1.1or 3.1.2). Ifnozzle sizeis tobe
changed,alwayschange allthree parts. Change the complete set also when onlyone ofthe partsis
defect.
•1.Remove screw(21.1)
•2.Pullout valvespring (20.1)
•3.Pullout needle/valve cartridge
•4.Unscrewthe collar ring (4.1.1),remove air cap (3.1.1 or 3.1.2)
•5.Unscrewnozzle (2.1.1)
Re-assemble in reverse order.

•5.Pullout needle spring (17.1)

Re-assemble in reserve order. OBSERVE!!!
Needle nuts (16.1) mustbe counter-screwed in such a position where “pre-“ and “purging-air” work.
The correct position of needle nuts (16.1) on needle or extension needle is8,8 - 9,0mm fromthe end of
the needle.

5 Causeof faults
Before starting maintenance or repair work,ensure that all air operated toolsare disconnected fromthe
air supply!
•If drops form on the trigger
the needlegasket(10.1) is worn respectivelyloose and mustslightlybe retightened. For that
purpose remove needle/valve cartridge (see chapter “4.3”). Then unscrewscrew(12.2) and take
out needle driver (12.1). Using asmallscrewdriver turn stuffing box (11.1) gentlyclockwise and
tryif needleis sliding smoothlyagain within the tightening gasket.
•If drops form on the nozzle,
either needle or nozzle is worn and should be replaced.Or needleis not closed properlyf.i.
because ofparticleresidues withinnozzle. Cleaning the needle/valve cartridge withsolvent (see
chapter “4.3”).
•If there is an uneven and not steadyspray jet
make sure that nozzle is screwed in tight.Other reason could also be dirt residue withinair cap.
Cleaning aircap with solvent.
•Airblowing constantly
Although trigger released. O-Ring (13.1) and/or washer(14.1) worn and tobe exchanged.Or
needlenuts are not counter-screwed in correctposition (see chapter “4.3”).

ALFRED SCHÜTZE Apparatebau GmbH, Hannoversche Straße 69-71, 28309 Bremen-Germany
in accordance withthe guidelinesand standardsofDIN EN 292. This spraygun can be combined with
other modules or machines,which complyto DINEN 292, withoutlimiting the conformity.
