MOWING TIPS
Make sure the lawn is clear of stones, sticks, wires
and other objects that could damage the reel mower
blades or motor. Such objects could be accidentally
thrown by the mower in any direction and cause
serious personal injury to the operator and others.
For a healthy lawn, always cut off one-third or less
of the total length of the grass.
When cutting heavy grass, reduce walking speed
to allow for more effective cutting and a proper
discharge of the clippings.
Do not cut wet grass. It will stick to the underside
of the deck and prevent proper mulching of grass
clippings.
New or thick grass may require a narrower cut.
Cutting grass in circles has better effect than
cutting back and forth.
NOTE: Always stop mower, allow blades to completely
stop, remove the switch key and remove the battery pack
from the battery port before cleaning underneath the
mower.
SLOPE OPERATION
WARNING: Slopes are a major factor related to slip and
fall accidents that can result in severe injury. Operation
on slopes requires extra caution. If you feel uneasy on a
slope, do not mow it. For your safety, do not attempt to
mow slopes greater than 15 degrees.
Mow across the face of slopes, not up and down.
Exercise extreme caution when changing direction
on slopes.
Watch for holes, ruts, rocks, hidden objects, or
bumps which can cause you to slip or trip. Tall grass
can hide obstacles. Remove all objects such as
rocks, tree limbs, etc., which could be tripped over or
thrown by the blade.
Always be sure of your footing. A slip and fall
can cause serious personal injury. If you feel you are
losing your balance, release the switch control bail
wire immediately.
Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches, or
embankments; you could lose your footing or
balance.
EMPTYING THE GRASS CATCHER
Stop mower and allow blades to completely stop.
Open battery cover.
Remove switch key and battery pack.
Lift the rear discharge flap.
Lift the grass catcher by its support rod to remove
from mower.
Empty grass clippings.
Lift the rear discharge flap and reinstall the grass
catcher as described earlier in this manual.
Reinstall switch key and battery pack when you are
ready to mow.

CHARGING THE BATTERY PACK
Charge the battery pack only with the charger provided.
Allow at least 60 minutes of charge time for 2.0Ah battery
before initial use of the mower.
Make sure the power supply is normal household voltage,
120 volts, 60Hz, AC only.
The battery charger should be operated in temperatures
between 39 and 104 degrees F (4 °C and 40 °C).
The battery should be charged in a cool, dry place.
Two to three initial charging/discharging cycles may be
required to achieve maximum run time/capacity.
DO NOT attempt to open the charger or the unit. There are no
customer serviceable parts inside. Call customer service
helpline at 1-800-618-7474 for assistance.
DO NOT incinerate battery packs even if they are severely
damaged or completely worn out. They can explode in a fire
causing injury.
DO NOT charge appliance in rain, or in wet locations.
Use the battery charger indoors only.
Disconnect charger from the power supply when not in use to
prevent damage to the charger during a power surge.
When fully charged, the battery can be safely stored in
temperatures down to -4 degrees F (-20 degrees C) for a
period of up to four weeks, before requiring charging. Fully
charge battery pack every 90 days.
If over a period of time the battery pack quickly runs down
after a full 60 minutes charging period, a replacement battery
pack is needed.
To prevent permanent damage to the battery, never store in a
discharged condition.
WINTER STORAGE - Fully recharge before storage and then
again every 90 days.
Since the battery will not develop a memory, it does not have
to be fully discharged before recharging.
A small leakage of liquid from the battery cells may occur
under extreme usage, charging or temperature conditions.
This does not indicate a failure. However, if the outer seal is
broken and this leakage gets on your skin.
a. Wash quickly with soap and water.
b. Neutralize with a mild acid such as lemon juice or
vinegar.
c. If the battery liquid gets in your eyes, flush them with
clean water for a minimum of 10 minutes and seek
immediate medical attention.
TO CHARGE - SEE CHARGER MANUAL FOR COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS

factory.
Do not adjust unless absolutely needed.
Misalignment can occur resulting in blades that are too
lose or too tight. If this happens, you will notice a rough,
uneven cut or a mower that is hard to push.
Make adjustment to the position of the cutter bar by using
a hex wrench to turn the eight adjusting bolts located on
the bottom of the cutter bar.
Adjusting the bolts is a very sensitive procedure. 1/16th of
a turn is considered a major adjustment.
Loosening the blades
The cutting bar blade is moved further from the cutting
reel.
Stop the motor and remove the switch key. Allow the
blade to come to a complete stop. Remove battery
from the battery compartment.
Use hex wrench to turn the adjusting bolts
counterclockwise.
Tightening the blades
The cutting bar is moved closer to the cutting reel.
Stop the motor and remove the switch key. Allow the
blade to come to a complete stop. Remove battery
from the battery compartment.
Use hex wrench to turn the adjusting bolts clockwise.
Periodically check all nuts and bolts for proper
tightness to ensure safe operation of the mower.
Remove any buildup of grass and leaves on or around
the motor cover. Wipe the mower clean with a dry cloth
occasionally. Do not use water.
LUBRICATION
All of the bearings in this product are lubricated with a
sufficient amount of high grade lubricant for the life of
the unit under normal operating conditions. Therefore,
no further bearing lubrication is required.
At the beginning and end of each mowing season:
Lubricate the springs on the rear discharge flap
with light oil.
Lubricate the height adjustment knob and related
hardware with light oil.
MAINTENANCE

Model 2020-16S

SHARPENING THE BLADE
When the mower is properly lubricated and adjusted,
sharpening should not be necessary for several years.
However, the following steps will allow you to do the
procedure yourself at relatively little expense.
Spread a thin layer of lapping compound on the front
edge of the reel blades.
Adjust the cutter bar so that the cutter bar blade has
light but firm contact with the reel blades across the
full width of the cutter bar.
Push the mower backward on a smooth surface
( such as a sidewalk or paved driveway). Continue to
do this until the reel blades rotate relatively free and
front edge of the cutter bar blade is polished.
MAINTENANCE

Model 2020-16S
BATTERY MAINTENANCE
It is recommended to charge the mower every 3
months for optimum performance when not in use. If
the battery has been in storage for a long time without
recharging, it will be in a low charge state.
Checking adjustments
During the adjustment process, use double
sheets of paper(ie., newspaper or writing)
between the cutter bar blade and the reel
blades.
Carefully turn the reel blades by hand to verify
the paper can be cut. All blades should slice the
paper evenly the entire length of the cutter bar
while the reel spins freely with minimal
obstruction or resistance.
Turn the corresponding adjusting bolt clockwise
when the paper is not being cut. Turn the
corresponding adjusting bolt counterclockwise
when the reel is too tight.
After adjustment, if the mower has an intermittent
cut, or if the reel is being obstructed by too
much contact between the reel blades and cutter
bar blade, adjustments should be made to the
corresponding bolts where the condition is
occurring.
Fig. 13
NOTE: It is recommended to use and industrial or
valve lapping compound between 100-240 grit. This
is usually available at an industrial or automotive
supply store.
If professional sharpening is required, consult your
local yellow pages for reel mower repair services.
STORING THE MOWER
Remove the switch key and battery, and store in
a secure location out of the reach of children.
Remove the grass catcher.
Before storage, wipe any dirt or debris from the
battery area.
Turn mower on its side and clean grass
clippings that have accumulated on the
underside of the mower deck.
Wipe the mower clean with a dry cloth.
Check all nuts, bolts, knobs, screws, fasteners,
etc., for tightness.
Inspect moving parts for damage, breakage and
wear. Have repairs made on any damaged or
missing parts.
Uninstall the handle assembly as described
earlier in this manual.
Store mower indoors in a clean, dry place out of
the reach of children.
Do not store near corrosive materials such as
fertilizer or rock salt.
