b. Find a suitable onboard location for the C-pod
TheC-podshouldbeinstalledinawellhiddenanddryplaceonboard.Other
factorsthatmustbeconsideredarecellular(GSM)networkandGPSsignal
reception,accesstoconstantpowersupplyandcablelengthsforthesupplied
equipment.
TheC-podmainunitisdesignedtobemountedverticallywithantennasfac-
ingdownwards.Adifferentorientationmayaffectthecellular(GSM)network
signalqualityandmoistureprotection.
Thecellular(GSM)networkantennaisattacheddirectlytotheunitandmust
bewellabovethewaterline.Avoidplacesshieldedfromcellular(GSM)net-
worksignals,e.g.insidemetalboxes,enclosedincarbonberetc.
TheC-podmusthaveaconstantpowersupplytoprotectyourboatevenwhen
otherequipmentisturnedoffbythebatteryisolationswitch.Makesurethat
thereisanappropriatepowersourcewithintherangeofthepowercable.
c. Mount the equipment & connect the parts
Attachthetwist-onfastenerinthedesiredlocationusingtwoscrewsorbolts.
SecuretheC-podunitbycenteringtheunit’smountingpointtotheguiding
pinonthefastenerandtwistingclockwiseorcounter-clockwiseuntiltheunit
islockedinplace.TodetachtheC-podunit,twistinanydirectiontoreleaseit
fromthefastener.

TheGSM antennascrewsontothe
contactmarkedGSMontheC-pod
unit.
TheGPS antenna has a 3 meter
(10feet)cordthatattachestothe
contactmarkedGPSontheunit.The
antennamustbeplacedhorizontally
withtheplasticdomefacingup-
wards.Findahiddenlocationwithas
littlematerialbetweentheantenna
andtheskyaspossible.Avoidloca-
tionsthatmightbeshieldedfrom
GPSsignals,e.g.closetometalboxes
orcarbonberetc.Theantennais
notdesignedtobemountedoutside.
Theprovidedhook-and-loopfas-
tenercanbeusedtoattachtheGPS
antenna.
Note:TheGPSantennaismagneticandmaydisturbotherequipment,
suchascompasses.
Hint: Forsailingboatsaplacementclosetothecenterlineimproves
theGPSreceptionwhensailingkeeledover.

Theactivation buttonshouldbedis-
creetlylocatedinsidetheareapro-
tectedbythemagneticintrusionsen-
sor,sothatitcanbereachedwithin
45secondsofenteringtheboatto
deactivatethealarms.Thebutton
hasaLEDinthecenterwhichmust
bevisible.Connectthebuttontothe
contactmarked I/O ontheC-pod.
Attachthemagnetic intrusion sensor
tothedesireddoororhatch.When
thedoororhatchisclosedthegap
betweenthemagnet(nocable)and
thereedswitch(withcable)mustnot
exceed15mmtoavoidfalsealarms.
Connect the magnetic intrusion sen-
sortothecontactmarked 1on the
C-pod.

Hint: Beforeproceeding,itisrecommendedtomeasureandverifythe

d. Power supply
TheC-podcanbepoweredby12or24VDC.Itneedsconstantpoweranditis
recommendedtoattachthepowercabledirectlytothebattery.Makesurethe
powersupplycannotbeinterruptedbyanybatteryisolationswitch.Itisadvised
toshortenthepowercabletominimizevoltagelossandgivemoreexactbat-
teryvoltagereadings.
Thecablemustbeprotectedbya1–2Afuse(slow)orathermalcircuitbreaker
mountedasclosetothepowersourceaspossible.Striptheplus(red)andminus
(black)wiresonthepowercableandconnectthemtothepowersourceusing
suitablecableconnectors/cableshoes.

Connectthepowerplugtothepow-
erportmarkedwith ontheC-pod.
TheC-podstartsup.Payattentionto
theashingoftheactivationbutton,
whichshowsthestart-upprogress.
• Theactivationbuttonashesonce
every seconduntiltheC-podhas
connectedtothestrongestavail-
ablecellular(GSM)network.
• Theactivationbuttonashesonce
every 3 secondsuntilaGPSposi-
tionhasbeenreceived.
• Theactivationbuttonashes
once every 30 seconds in normal
operatingmodetoindicatethat
thesystemisrunning.Thestart-up
sequenceiscompleted.

Note:Thestart-upsequencenormallytakessomeminutesormore,as
theC-podscansallavailablenetworkoperatorsandreceivescongura-
tionsettings.
Hint:Beforeleavingtheboatitisrecommendedtodouble-checkthat
theinstallationandsystemstart-uphasbeensuccessfulbysendingthe
text(SMS)commandstatus or positiontotheC-podSystemNumber.

Oncetheinstallationintheboatisdone,logontothewebportalwiththe
personalusernameandthepasswordyouchoseintheinstallationwizard.
a.Verify cellular (GSM) network & GPS position
VerifythattheC-podhasaworkingcommunicationandhasobtainedaGPS
position.Ifthisisunsuccessful,youneedtochecktheinstallationoftheC-pod
unit.RefertotheTroubleshootingGuide,sectionsCommunication related
problemsand/orGPS related problems,orcontactyourretailerortheC-pod
TechnicalSupportifthisdoesnothelp.
Whenthevericationiscompleted,youareredirectedtoyourpersonalweb
portal(non-subscriptionsystems).
b.Billing information (subscription agreements only)
Insomecountries,themonthlyservicefeecanbeautomaticallychargedto
yourcreditcard.Enteryourcreditcardinformationandproceedwiththerst
monthlypaymentthroughoursecure(SSL-encrypted)paymentportal.Please
notethatnocreditcarddataisstoredonourservers.
Whenthepaymentiscompleted,youareredirectedtoyourpersonalweb
portal.

Beforestartingtousethesystemfully,somesettingsneedtobecongured.
Navigatebyclickingonthemenuitemstotheleft.
a.Action Plan
TheAction Plandeneswhattext(SMS)and/ore-mailmessagesaresentto
whichrecipient(s)incaseanalarmorwarningistriggered.Thecellphone
numberyouusedtocreateyouraccountisalreadyinthelist.Otherreceivers
couldbeasecuritycompany,aguardinyourmarinaorarelative.
b.Accessories
Ifyouhavechosennottoinstallthemagneticintrusionsensorandhavein-
stallednoothersensor(s)onAlarmloop1,youneedtodisableitonthemenu
Alarms,thenclickSend configuration.Activatinganalarmloopwithoutany
sensorleadstoaninstantfalsealarm!
Ifyouhavepurchasedextra accessories,theyneedtobeaddedtotheAcces-
sorieslist.Refertotheinstructionsontheaccessory’spackaging.
c.Battery Level Warning
TheBattery level warningissettoadefaultvaluethattsmost12Vsystems.
InthemenuWarnings-Batterylevel-Settings,choose12Vor24Vinthedrop-
downmenudependingonthesysteminyourboat.Selectthedesiredwarning
threshold.
Note:Somemobilephoneoperatorsmaychargeforreceivedtext
(SMS)messages.AlwaysinformpersonsyouaddtotheActionPlan!
Hint:Checktheexternalbatteryvoltageonthewebportalwhenthe
boat’sbatteryisfullychargedandchooseaslightlylowervalueas
warninglevel.

d.Communication Warning
TheCommunication warningisturnedoffbydefault.ItmonitorstheGPRS
datatrafc,whichrequiresagoodcellular(GSM)networksignalqualityto
workproperly.Ifthecellular(GSM)networkisstrongatthelocationofyour
boat,youcanturniton.Aslongasnowarningmessageissent,thesystem
communicationisworking.
Ifthecommunicationfailsfour timesinarow(i.e.after4hours)thecom-
municationwarningistriggered.ItisautomaticallyresetwhentheGPRSdata
communicationworksagain.

Note:Itiscommonthatthestrengthofcellularnetworksvariesduring
dayandnight,sothissettingoftenneedstobeevaluatedforawhile.
Ifthenetworkistooweak,youmayoccasionallygetcommunication
warnings.Considerdisablingthewarningifthishappensregularly.
RefertotheTroubleshootingGuide,sectionCommunication related
problems.

ThispartcoversthemostimportantoperatinginstructionsforyourC-pod
SecuritySystem.Thewebportalisthemostdetailedandconvenientwayto
manageyourC-podSecuritySystem.Thereisamoredetaileddescriptionon
eachmenu.
System Mode
Therearetwosystemmodes,whichofferdifferentfeaturesandsystembe-
haviors.(Forpre-paidsystemsusingcredits,theActive modehasadailycom-
municationcost.ThePassive modeisfreeofcharge.)
Active mode
In Active modethesystemisfullyoperational.Alarmscanbeactivated
anddeactivated,warningsareon.Incaseofanalarmorwarningevent,
messagesaresenttotherecipientsspeciedintheActionPlan.Thesystem
dataisupdatedautomaticallyandtheGPRSdatatrafcischeckedhourly.
Passive mode
In Passive modeallalarmsandwarningsareturnedoffandthereisnoactive
monitoringoftheunitbytheC-podServer.Noalarmsorwarningnotica-
tionsaresent.Thismodeisintendedforlongerperiodsduringwhichyou
donotneedorwishtohavealarmprotectionorreceivenotications,e.g.
duringwinterstorageinaprotectedareaorwhentheC-podisturnedoff.
Status reports
Gettingastatus reportfromtheC-podSystemispossibleinbothmodes.
Thismakesitpossibletoe.g.checkthebatteryvoltageduringwinterstor-
agewhenthesystemisinPassivemode.

Alarms
Therearethreedifferentalarmtypes(fourdifferentalarms)whichcanbe
switchedonandoffbytheuser.Ifanyalarmistriggered,acorresponding
alarmmessageissenttotherecipient(s)speciedintheAction Plan.AGPS
trackingisstartedautomaticallywhichcontinuesaslongasthealarmisin
triggeredstate.Iftriggeredalarmsarenotresetordeactivatedwithin6hours
thenoticationsareresentasareminder.
Geofence
TheGeofence alarmusesGPSpositioningandreactsonunauthorized
movementofyourboat.Uponactivation,thecurrentGPSpositionissaved.
TheC-podcomparesthesavedpositiontotheactualcurrentposition
severaltimesaminute.Ifapositionmorethan250m(275yards)awayis
detected,theGeofencealarmtriggers.
Alarm Loops
Therearetwoalarmloops,whichworkthesameway.Thechoiceofexternal
sensorsontheloopsdeneswhattheywillreacton.Themagneticintrusion
sensorfromthebasicpackageisusuallyconnectedtoAlarm loop 1.Optional
equipmentcanreplacethemagneticintrusionsensororisconnectedto
Alarm loop 2.Refertotheinstructionsontheaccessory’spackaging.Ifthe
(normallyclosed)sensorloopisbroken,thecorrespondinglooptriggersan
alarm.Dependingonwhichsensorsareconnectedtotheloopthattrig-
gered,someoneenteredtheboat(magneticintrusionsensorandmotion
detector),arehasstarted(smokedetector)orwaterisgettingintothe
boat(waterlevelsensor).Whenusingtwoormoresensors,werecommend
separatingintrusionandenvironmentrelatedsensorstodifferentalarm
loops.
Battery Disconnect
Ifthevoltagesuddenlydropsfromthenormalvalueofaround12V(or24V)
tozero,theBattery disconnect alarmtriggers.Thishappensifthepower
supplytotheC-podiscut.Inthiscase,thealarmloopsareturnedofftosave
theback-upbatterypowerandtomaximizetheGPStrackingduration.

Warnings
Therearefourorvedifferentwarnings(dependingonthepaymentmodel).
Warningsareresetautomaticallyifthecorrespondingparameterrevertsto
theallowedvalue.
Communication Warning
TheCommunication warningtriggersiftheGPRSdatatrafctoandfrom
theC-poddoesnotwork.Normallythisisduetoaweakcellular(GSM)net-
workwheretheboatislocated,anddoesnotmeanthattheC-podSystem
cannotcommunicateatall.Itusestheslowermethodofdatatext(SMS)
messagesinstead.
Battery Level Warning & Power Save Warning
TheBattery level warningistriggeredifthevoltagedropsbelowtheuser
denedvalue.ThePower save warningistriggeredifthevoltagedrops
below11.2V.Thetwoalarmloopsareturnedoff,sinceavoltagethislow
hasanunstableeffectonmostsensors.Also,theC-podreducesthepower
loadontheboat’sbattery.
Billing/Credit related warnings
Dependingonthepaymentmodel,thesewarningsalertyouifthereisa
problemwiththemonthlywithdrawalfromyourcreditcard(forsubscrip-
tionC-pods),orifyouraccountisrunninglowoncreditsortheatrateis
abouttoexpire(fornon-subscriptionC-pods).

Activate and Deactivate Alarms
Activation
Alarmsthatyouwishtousewhenactivatingthealarmsystemhavetobe
enabledonthewebportal.Allenabledalarmsareactivatedinagroup.
Alarmsinthestatedisabledarenotactivated.Alarmloopsthathaveno
sensorsattachedmustbedisabled;otherwiseyougetaninstantalarm
uponactivation!
Therearefourwaysofactivatingthealarms.
•Theactivation buttonlocatedinyourboatcanbeusedforactivationjust
beforeleavingtheboat.Pressthebuttonforasecondanditreplieswith
4 short flashesasconrmation.Youhave45secondstoleavethepro-
tectedareaofyourboatbeforethealarmsareactive.
•Sendthe text (SMS) command activatetotheC-podSystemNumber.Any
commandsmustbesentfromthemaincellphonenumber;otherwisethe
systemcannotrecognizeyou.Text(SMS)commandscanbesentwherev-
eryouare.RefertotheReferencemanual,sectionText (SMS) commands.
•Logontothe web portal,gotothemenuAlarmsandclickActivate
alarms.Hereyoucanalsomonitortheactivationprogress.
•Usingtheremote control(optionalaccessory),youcanstandoutsideof
yourboattoactivatethealarms.

Deactivation
Allenabledandactivealarmsaredeactivatedinagroup.Nottriggered
alarmsaredeactivatedbyanyofthemethods.Triggeredalarmscannot

Therearefourwaysofdeactivatingthealarms.
•Theactivation buttonlocatedinyourboatcanbeusedalsofordeactiva-
tion.Within45secondsafterenteringtheprotectedareaonboard,press
thebuttonforasecondandthebuttonreplieswithone long flash as
conrmation.
•Sendthetext (SMS) command deactivatetotheC-podSystemNumber.
Anycommandsmustbesentfromyourmaincellphonenumber;oth-
erwisethesystemcannotrecognizeyou.Text(SMS)commandscanbe
sentwhereveryouare.RefertotheReferencemanual,sectionText (SMS)
commands.
•Logontotheweb portal,gotothemenuAlarmsandclickDeactivate
alarms.Hereyoualsocanmonitorthedeactivationprogress.
•Usingtheremote control(optionalaccessory),youcanstandoutsideof
yourboattodeactivatethealarms

Triggered alarms
Whenanalarmistriggered,thesystemrespondsinthefollowingways:
• Alarm notificationsaresenttotherecipientsspeciedintheAction Plan.
• AGPS trackingstartsinstantly.TheC-podsendsGPSpositionsautomati-
callyevery15minutes,aslongasalarmsaretriggeredandaslongasthe
C-podhaspower.Thesepositionscanbeviewedonthewebportalonthe
menu Map.
• Aninstalledsiren(optional)soundsonlywhenanalarmlooptriggers.Due
tovariousregulationsandlaws,thealarmsoundsfor3minutes,inintervals
of10secondson,5secondsoff.ItdoesnotsoundonGeofenceandBattery
disconnectalarms;asilenttrackingispreferredinthesecases.
Triggered alarms require immediate user action!Verifywhatisgoingon–get
astatusreportandexaminetheresult:
• Geofencealarm–checkiftheboatseemstobemovingorifitmighthave
beenatemporaryuctuationintheGPSsystem.
• Alarmloop–denedbythesensorsinstalledonthetriggeredloop,deter-
minewhatishappeningontheboat.Deactivateandactivatethealarmsto
ruleoutafalsealarm.
• Batterydisconnectalarm–checkthebatteryvoltagebyrequestingasta-
tus.Iftheexternalvoltageisshownas(closeto)zerotheC-podisnotcon-
nectedtotheboat’sbatteryanymore.Itisrunningontheinternalbattery
whichlastsforatleast2daysundernormalconditions.
Takethenecessaryaction;callsomeonewhoisclosetotheboat,yoursecu-
ritycompanyorgoseeforyourselfwhatisgoingon.
Alarmnoticationsareresentevery6hoursasareminder,forallalarmsand
toallrecipientsaccordingtotheActionPlan.Thisdoesnotmeanthatanew
alarmhasbeentriggered–triggered alarms cannot trigger again!

Turn off/reset triggered alarms
TriggeredalarmsneedtobedeactivatedtostoptheGPStrackingandthe
remindernotications.Triggeredalarmsaredeactivatedthesamewayasnon-
triggeredi.e.activealarms,exceptfortheactivationbutton.
• Sendthetext (SMS) command deactivatetotheC-podSystemNumber.Any
commandsmustbesentfromyourmaincellphonenumber;otherwisethe
systemcannotrecognizeyou.Text(SMS)commandscanbesentwherever
youare.RefertotheReferencemanual,sectionText (SMS) commands.
• Logontotheweb portal,gotothemenuAlarmsandclickDeactivate
alarms.Hereyoualsocanmonitorthedeactivationprogress.
• Usingthe remote control(optionalaccessory),youcanstandoutsideof
yourboattodeactivatethealarms.
! Theactivationbuttonlocatedinyourboatcannotbeusedfordeactivation.
Pressingthebuttonwhilealarmsaretriggeredhasnoeffect.Thispreventsa
possibleintrudertoturnoffthealarmandtrackingfunctionality.
Re-activate the alarms!Assoonasyouhaveinvestigatedtheproblem,you
shouldre-activatethealarmstoensuretheprotectionofyourboat!
