1.2. GENERAL SAFETY

pWARNING! Disconnect the saw from the mains power, and ensure the cutting disc is at a complete standstill before attempting

to changing accessories, servicing or performing any maintenance.

3Maintain the saw in good condition (use an authorised service agent).

3Replace or repair damaged parts. Use recommended parts only. Non authorised parts may be dangerous and will invalidate the warranty.

3Locate the saw in an adequate working area for its function. Ensure the surface is flat and firm. Keep area clean and tidy and free from

unrelated materials, and ensure there is adequate lighting.

3Keep the saw clean for best and safest performance and check moving parts alignment regularly.

pWARNING! Before each use check cutting disc is secure, and the disc is not worn or damaged, if so replace immediately.

3Ensure replacement discs are not damaged in any way such as cracks, deformations or splinters etc. Also check the mounting flanges

to ensure they are not deformed, burred or notches. Damaged items must not be used as they may cause irregular pressure on the disc

which may cause the disc to break. DO NOT over tighten a disc and never tamper with a disc in order to adapt it to a different size holder.

3Always use the correct disc suitable for the material being cut. Ensure the cutting discs maximum speed specification is higher than that

indicated on the machine data plate.

pWARNING! Keep guard and holding screws in place, tight and in good working order. Check regularly for damaged parts.

A guard or any other part that is damaged should be checked to ensure that it will operate properly and perform its intended function

before the tool is used. The safety guard is a mandatory fitting where saw is used in premises covered by the Health & Safety at Work Act.

3Remove adjusting keys and wrenches from the machine and its vicinity before turning it on.

3Ensure there are no flammable or combustible materials near the work area.

pWARNING! Wear approved safety eye protection, ear defenders, and gauntlets, and if dust is generated respiratory protection.

3Remove ill fitting clothing. Remove ties, watches, rings, and other loose jewellery, and contain long hair.

3Keep hands and body clear of the work table when operating the saw. Always clamp workpiece in base vice. NEVER hold a work piece by hand.

3Maintain correct balance and footing. Ensure the floor is not slippery and wear non slip shoes.

and properly maintained, give you years of trouble free performance.

1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. NOTE THE SAFE OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, WARNINGS AND

CAUTIONS. USE THIS PRODUCT CORRECTLY AND WITH CARE FOR THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH IT IS INTENDED. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY

1.1. ELECTRICAL SAFETY. p WARNING! It is the users responsibility to read, understand and comply with the following:

You must check all electrical equipment and appliances to ensure they are safe before using. You must inspect power supply leads, plugs and

all electrical connections for wear and damage. You must ensure the risk of electric shock is minimised by the installation of appropriate safety

devices. An RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) should be incorporated in the main distribution board. We also recommend that an RCD

(Residual Current Device) is used with all electrical products. It is particularly important to use an RCD together with portable products that are

plugged into an electrical supply not protected by an RCCB. If in doubt consult a professional electrician. You may obtain a Residual Current

Device by contacting your Sealey dealer. You must also read and understand the following instructions concerning electrical safety.

1.1.1. The Electricity At Work Act 1989 requires all portable electrical appliances, if used on a business premises, to be tested by

a qualified Electrician at least once a year by using a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT).

1.1.2. The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 makes owners of electrical appliances responsible for the safe condition of the appliance,

and the safety of the appliance operator. If in any doubt about electrical safety, contact a qualified electrician.

1.1.3. Ensure the insulation on all cables and the product itself is safe before connecting to the mains power

supply. See 1.1.1. & 1.1.2. above and use a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT).

1.1.4. Ensure that cables are always protected against short circuit and overload.

1.1.5. Regularly inspect power supply, leads, plugs and all electrical connections for wear and damage,

especially power connections, to ensure that none are loose.

1.1.6. Important: Ensure the voltage marked on the product is the same as the electrical power supply

to be used, and check that plugs are fitted with the correct capacity fuse. A 13Amp plug may require

a fuse smaller than 13Amps for certain products (subject to 1.1.10. below) see fuse rating at right.

1.1.7. DO NOT pull or carry the powered appliance by its power supply lead. Products such as

welders must not be pulled or carried by their output cables.

1.1.8. DO NOT pull power plugs from sockets by the power cable.

1.1.9. DO NOT use worn or damage leads, plugs or connections. Immediately replace or have repaired by

a qualified Electrician. A U.K. 3 pin plug with ASTA/BS approval is fitted. In case of damage, cut off

and fit a new plug according to the following instructions (discard old plug safely).

(UK only - see diagram at right). Ensure the unit is correctly earthed via a three-pin plug.

a) Connect the GREEN/YELLOW earth wire to the earth terminal E.

b) Connect the BROWN live wire to live terminal L.

c) Connect the BLUE neutral wire to the neutral terminal N.

After wiring, check there are no bare wires, that all wires have been correctly connected and that the wire restraint is tight.

Double insulated products are often fitted with live (BROWN) and neutral (BLUE) wires only. Double insulated products are always marked with

this symbol . To re-wire, connect the brown & blue wires as indicated above. DO NOT connect the brown or blue to the earth terminal.

1.1.10. Some products require more than a 13Amp electrical supply. In such a case, NO plug will be fitted. You must contact a qualified Electrician

to ensure a 30 amp fused supply is available. We recommend you discuss the installation of a industrial round pin plug & socket with your electrician.

1.1.11. Cable extension reels. When a cable extension reel is used it should be fully unwound before connection. A cable reel with an RCD

fitted is recommended since any product which is plugged into the cable reel will be protected. The section of the cable on the cable

reel is important. We recommend that at least 1.5mm2section cable but to be absolutely sure that the capacity of the cable reel is

suitable for this product and for others that may be used in the other output sockets, we recommend the use of 2.5mm2section cable.

The MG305/230VCE and MG314/230VCE are general purpose abrasive saws suitable for site use. Supplied with abrasive disc for metal cutting

but will cut concrete with correct disc fitted. Fully guarded discs and integral work vice are included.

3. CONTENT & ASSEMBLY

Cut-off saw main body

3.1. Open the carton and locate the hand grip on the upper part of the arm.

Firmly grasp the hand grip and remove the saw carefully ensuring you maintain

a correct posture for lifting.

3.2. Set the saw on a flat, stable work bench, or surface strong enough to support the saw

and any workpiece. For a permanent fixture detach the rubber feet by removing the fixing

screws, and bolt the saw to an appropriate work bench.

3.3. The motor head is locked in the down position for transportation. To release the motor head

hold the handle (fig 1 A) firmly in the down position whilst removing the holding chain from

the retaining hook located at the back of the underside of the handle. Continue to hold

the handle down in order to counter the return spring and preventing the motor head from

ascending too violently. With handle lift the motor head up to its maximum height.

3.4. Remove safety packing from the vice.

3.5. Take the guard control lever (fig1 H) and attach it to the vice angle bracket (fig 1 C, & fig 2. 2) by fixing

the M6x30mm bolt, spacer, guard control lever (fig 2.1), and the Ø6 washer, tighten with the M6 self locking nut.

Before using saw, check that wheel is perpendicular to the base of machine and all parts are

in good order and correctly secured.

Unpack the product and check contents against the following list.

Should there be any damaged or missing parts contact your supplier immediately.

4. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

pWARNING! ensure the saw is unplugged from the mains power supply before attempting to place workpiece in the vice, and that the safety

instructions in chapter one are carefully followed.

4.1. Securing workpiece.

4.1.1. Secure workpiece in the base vice (fig1 D).

We recommend that you place a block of wood (slightly narrower than the work piece) in the vice below the item to be cut

to act as a support.

4.1.2. Additional cutting capacity up to 214mm may be obtained by re-positioning the back jaw of the vice (E) in the rear vice holes

(F) and fully securing.

4.1.3. When cutting long pieces use additional supports along the length.

4.2. The On and Off switch.

Start the saw by depressing the power trigger located on the handgrip (fig 1 item G).

Release the trigger will stop the saw.

3Avoid subjecting disc to excessive strain, always ease disc down against workpiece (a harsh downward impact may break the disc). Do not

over press on the down handle in order to cut workpiece. Maintain a controlled adequate progression, which will emit a maximum of sparks.

7DO NOT force the saw to achieve a task it was not designed to perform.

7DO NOT allow untrained persons to operate the saw, and keep children and unauthorised persons away from the working area.

7DO NOT get the saw wet or use in damp or wet locations or areas where there is condensation.

pWARNING! DO NOT use saw where there is flammable liquids, solids or gases such as paint solvents, including waste wiping rags etc.

7DO NOT operate the saw if any parts are missing or damaged as this may cause failure or possible personal injury.

7DO NOT position your body in line with the abrasive disc whilst cutting, and DO NOT remove the safety guard whilst in use.

7DO NOT attempt to remove a workpiece until the disc has stopped rotating.

7DO NOT touch the workpiece close to the cut as it will be very hot. Allow to cool. The cut edge of the workpiece will also be very sharp.

7DO NOT leave the saw operating whilst unattended, and avoid un-intentional starting of the saw.

7DO NOT operate the saw when you are tired, under the influence of alcohol, drugs or intoxicating medication.

3When not in use switch the saw off, remove plug from the power supply.

3During transport, always secure the machine head by means of the chain link in the special hook and lift by the handle.

4.3. Operating

4.3.1. The cutting disc must be running at its maximum speed before attempting to lower the cutting edge onto the workpiece.

4.3.2. Lower the cutting disc slowly and smoothly down toward the workpiece (avoid jerky movements).

4.3.3. Exert adequate downward pressure on the grip to allow cutting according to the type and size of the material you are work with.

Avoid subjecting disc to excessive strain, always ease disc down against workpiece (a harsh downward impact may break the disc).

Do not over press on the down handle in order to cut workpiece (Never force a disc). Maintain a controlled adequate progression,

which will emit a maximum of sparks (It is normal for sparks to be given off during this task).

4.3.4. when cutting heavy work, move the disc intermittently through the workpiece with steady progression.

4.4. Completing the cut.

4.4.1. When cutting is completed, carefully raise the cutting disc to its full extent, check that the arm release lever is in the correct position.

4.4.2. Release the trigger and wait until the disc has fully stopped before attempting to remove the workpiece.

4.5. Mitre cutting.

To cut workpiece at an angle the base of the saw must be adjusted.

4.5.1. To make an angled cut, loosen the vice retaining bolts (fig 3 A) and turn the turntable to required angle by reading

the graduated scale around the perimeter of the table up to a maximum of 45O.

4.5.2. Re-tighten the retaining bolts and make the cut.

5. CHANGING THE CUTTING DISC

pWARNING! Ensure the saw is unplugged from the mains power supply before attempting to change the cutting disc.

5.1. Removing disc.

5.1.1. Ensure the arm is fully retracted and held

in the rest position.

5.1.2. View the safety guard to locate the control lever spring

assembly (fig 4a). Press the assembly in to release

and move the guard up the lever. Lock the spring

assembly into the hole at the other end of the guard

slot, thus holding guard in raised position (fig 4).

5.1.3. Check the lever pin is correctly inserted in the

guard hole and is firmly held up.

5.1.4. The centre hole on the safety guard should

now be aligned with the disc nut (fig 4).

5.1.5. Use the face spanner supplied to hold

the disc washer. (fig 5a).

5.1.6. Use 17mm open ended spanner to undo

the fixing bolt then remove disc and parts.

5.1.7. Before fitting the new disc, carefully

clean the support flanges and spacers.

5.2. Fit disc. (Read chapter 1 safety instructions to ensure disc fitting requirements are followed).

5.2.1. Reposition the inner washer (A) and flange (B) check to ensure a perfect fit on the arbor.

Bring other fittings (C,D,E,F,G) into their respective location.

5.2.2. Tighten the locking bolt (G) by reversing the process in 5.1.5 & 6.

5.2.3. Before plugging the saw into the mains, restore the guard to its original position so that the disc is covered.

5.2.4. Check that the guard is working properly by raising and lowering the operating head.

6. MAINTENANCE

pWARNING! Ensure the saw is unplugged from the mains power supply before attempting any maintenance.

6.1. Regularly clean the dust which accumulates inside the protective guard and on the external parts.

6.2. Periodically clean and oil the vice screw.

6.3. Change the abrasive disc when it is worn and does not operate efficiently.

6.4. Use and authorised service agent to change the saw brushes.
