REPLACING AN EXISTING THERMOSTAT
NOTE: Your new thermostat will replace most
two-wire heating, 4-wire, 5-wire heating-cooling
thermostats. For exceptions, see page 2.
REMOVING OLD THERMOSTAT
1. Shut off electricity to furnace and air conditioner.
Leave it off until installation is complete.
2. Remove front cover of old thermostat (it will be a
“snap-on” type or one that is held in place with
screws.) (Fig. 4&5.)
anticipator setting on your old
, thermostat and write it down. This information
will be used to set the anticipator on your new
^thermostat. (Fig. 6). See page 6to set.
" 4. If your old thermostat has awall mounting plate,
remove the thermostat by unscrewing it. (Fig. 7).
If wiring is direct to thermostat, go to next step.
5A. FOR HEATING-ONLY:

thermostat. Install the new subbase (Fig. 10) by
following the directions under “For Heating
Only —Installing Subbase” (Page 5).
5B. FOR HEATING/COOLING:
Identify wire terminal markings on old
thermostat as installed. Using chart in Figure 8,
find these markings. Reading across to the
right, find “type” of thermostat you have. For
example: old thermostat has terminals Rg, 4, Yg,
and G. Read across to the right; you’ll see you
have atype 4thermostat.
NOTE: Your old thermostat may have terminals
mark ed B , O, a nd X . If Wire s ar e co nn ected t o B

^USE WIRE LABELS to identify each wire before
removing from old thermostat.
Just 1. After finding type thermostat (5B above and
Fig 9) USE SELF-ADHESIVE WIRING
mmuie LABELS to identify each wire. Discard
o t h e r s w h i c h a r e n o t u s e d .
2. Disconnect the wiresoneata time. Attach to
each wire, the label that matches that wire’s
terminal marking on old thermostat. Do this
before you disconnectthe next wire. (Notice
the label had both the old terminal marking
and the new thermostat marking.) Leave
t h e s e l a b e l s a t t a c h e d t o t h e w i r e s .
3. Remove ol d mounting plate from wal l.
Follow directions under “For Heating/Cool¬
ing-Installing Subbase” (Page 5).

INSTALLING SUBBASE
CAUTION: Be sure switch pins have been installed
as shown in (Fig. 10).
If this thermostat is to be used for heating only,
before mounting subbase to wall, insert switch pins
(in parts envelope) through the back of the subbase
as shown in figure 10. Put any household tape over
pins to hold in place. When installing the switch pins.
System Switch Lever should be in “OFF” position
and Fan Switch Lever should be in “AUTO” position.
The pins prevent the System switch from being

1. Raise tab straight away from the battery.
2. Hold one finger on battery to keep it in place.
3. Gently pull tab straight out.
NOTE: If timer does not start, remove battery and
re-insert it.
SET THE TIMER (FIG. 16 &17)
The timer has been pre-set to lowerthe temperature
at 11:00 p.m. and raise it at 6:00 a.m. for the first
period. The second period is set to lower the
temperature at 10:00 a.m. and raise it at 4:00 p.m.
Other settings may be made by:
1. Holding timer dial securely, remove each RED

4. During the air conditioning season you may wish
to maintain ahigher temperature during the day
and alower temperature at night. This may be
even more desirable if no one is at home during
the day. In this case, set the red time selector to
the AM time you want the house temperature to
rise to high temperature setting. Set the blue time
selector to the PM time you want the house
temperature to return to the Lo setting. (Fig. 18)
NOTE: Make sure you have located the Time
