1. Shift Cable Only
a. Remove the jam nut, rod seal and hub seal from
the

holes in alignment with the cable hub groove, and
bend the extended tab inward against the adapter.

rod end until it bottoms against the guide.
2. Throttle Cable
a.
Remove the jam nut, rod seal and hub seal from
the end of the cable. Discard the hub seal ONLY See
Figure 2.
b.
Slide the adapter over the end of the cable until
the center clip position aligns with the groove in the
cable hub.

Place the rod seal and jam nut back onto the
cable rod end approximately

16 inch. DO NOT
TIGHTEN THE JAM NUT AT THIS TIME.
CABLE INSTALLATION AND
ADJUSTMENT
(SINGLE LEVER CONTROLS ONLY)
1. Place the cable adapters into the receptacles
provided on the engine. Insta
ll
the ca
bl
e
re
tainer
(part of the engine) to hold the cables in pla
ce,
but
DO NOT FULLY TIGHTEN THE RETAINER BOLT
UNTIL AFTER FINAL CABLE ADJUSTMENTS
HAVE BEEN MADE.
2. Th
ro
ttle Cable Adjustment
a. Place the remote control hand lever into
FORWARD DETENTposition and place the engine
throttle arm against the idle stop.
b. Check the attaching hole in the throttle cable
terminal for alignment with the pin on the throttle
lever. If more than 1/4 inch of adjustment is
necessary to align the terminal wi
th
the pin, remove
the clip from the adapter and s
li
de the cable
to
one
of
the other two c
li
p positions and reinstall the clip.
NOTE
Always selectthe clip position
in
theadapter
that
will position the terminal nearest
to
the
pin
in
the
throttle lever.
c.
Grasp the terminal on the end of the throttle cable
and pull firmly, removing the backlash from the cable,
thus assuring constant idle speed. Adjust the
terminal until the attaching hole slips over the pin in
the throttle lever. Secure the
te
rminal
to
the p
in
using
the flat wash
er
and locknut on the pin. Note the cable
rod end must have a minimum of 1/4
in
ch
of thread
engagement in the terminal after the final adjustment
has been made.
d. Tighten the jam nut on the cable rod end against
the termina
l.
Bend the extended tab of the clip
inward against the adapter and tighten the cable
retainer bolt (part of the engine)
3. Shift Cable Adjustment
a. Place the remote control hand lever in the
NEUTRAL position and place the shift lever on
th
e
engine in the NEUTRALposition. Note the amount of
freeplay in the shift lever and position the lever in the
center of
th
is travel, as shown in Figure 4.

and slide the cable to one of the other two
clip positions and reinsta

ip.
NOTE
Always select
the
clip position
in
the adapter
that will position
the
terminal nearest
to
the
pin in the shift lever (not required on 85hp,
1
OOhp,
11
Shp and 140 hp Models).
c.
Recheck the position of the shift lever as shown
in Figure 4. Adjust the
te
rminal on the cable rod end
until the hole slips over the pin on the shift lever.
Secure the terminal to the pin using the flat washer
and locknut.
d. Tighten the jam nut on the cable
ro
d end agai

the terminal. Bend the
ex
tended tab on the clip

rd
against the adapter and tighten the cable
retainer bolt (part
of
the engine).
