About Pipit 500
About Pipit 500
Pipit 500 is your in-home display unit that collects energy usage information from your Smart Meter and displays
it on a LCD screen. In addition, the unit allows you to set up customised alerts relating to your energy usage.
The Pipit 500 connects (pairs) wirelessly to your Smart Meter using a Home Area Network which is built into both
the Smart Meter and the Pipit 500. Importantly, only the data from your Smart Meter will be visible on your Pipit
500.
What is a Smart Meter ?
It is an advanced electricity meter with built-in wireless
communications technology that allows remote
communication between your electricity supplier and the
meter enabling the supplier to deliver efficient services to you.

Electricity generation
Your electricity generation
If you have a source of generating electricity such as solar panels or other micro-generation systems installed in
your house and a Smart Meter configured for co-gen tariff then depending upon how much electricity you are
generating you will be able to see this display on the main screen.
The electricity generation dial will replace the electricity usage dial if you are generating electricity more than
what you are using now. The scaling on the electricity generation dial takes into account the generation capacity
you have set in your Pipit (Refer to the ‘Advanced settings’ page).
This negative value means you
are currently using less and
generating more electricity.
This symbol shows when
generating back into the
network,
for those with solar installations.
This is the cost of net electricity
you have used (usage minus
generation) today so far.
This is what you have set as your
electricity generation capacity.

Identify your power hungry
appliances!
Pipit can help you identify how
much energy each electrical
appliance is consuming in terms
of watts/kW and what are its
cost implications. Simply turn
off your appliance and notice
the change in $ per hour, kW
and CO2 emissions. Deduct the
current from previous value
displayed below the dial to find
out which appliances are
contributing most in your
household energy usage and
whether an appliance is
consuming more than it should.
