Safety Regulations
English [en]
Before starting the initial operation procedure of your device, please note the
following safety regulations:
Read the documentation and make sure that your system meets the
requirements listed therein.
The device must only be connected to the mains and to the network by
qualified personnel.
Avoid contact with humidity or liquids.
The device must only be connected and operated if it is in perfect condition.
Make sure that no-one steps on or stumbles over the cables.
This is a class 1 laser product. If no cable is connected to the SC or ST
connector, invisible laser radiation may occur. Do not expose yourself to laser
radiation and do not look straight into it. Put the provided protective caps on
the SC or ST connector if you do not use it.
Before unpacking the device, take all necessary precautions to avoid damage
to the device board e.g. electrostatic discharges etc.

is aangesloten, wordt eventueel onzichtbare laserstraling uitgezonden. Kijk
niet in de laserstraal en stelt u zich niet aan de laserstraling bloot. Plaats de
meegeleverde beschermkappen op de SC- resp. ST-stekkers wanneer deze niet
worden gebruikt.
Voor het uitpakken moeten maatregelen worden getroffen om te voorkomen
dat het apparaat beschadigingen oploopt door elektrostatische ontlading.

Mounting the Fiber Adapter
Intended Purpose:
The Fiber Adapter FC126 allows you to embed a Hewlett-Packard printer into an
existing optical fiber network (100BaseFX to 100BaseTX).

Do not connect the Fiber Adapter to other printers!
The Fiber Adapter is to be mounted from the outside over a pre-punched and
removable cut-out in the printer panel. The connection to the printer is
established via an internal RJ-45 cable. Power is supplied via the USB cable by
means of an internal USB port of the printer.
Before mounting the device, take all necessary precautions to avoid
electrostatic discharges.
Tools Required:
• Flat screwdriver
• Philips screwdriver
• Non-conductive mat (e.g. rubber mat)
• Cardboard

Preparing the Printer
Proceed as follows:
1. Turn the printer off.
2. Disconnect the power cord from the printer.
(Interrupt the power supply)
3. Disconnect the RJ-45 network cable from the printer.
Dismounting the Printer Mainboard
Sharp edges on the printer mainboard can cause injuries.
Proceed as follows:
1. Loosen the knurled screws of the printer mainboard.
(The printer mainboard can be recognized by the RJ-45 network
connector and the other printer interfaces.
The knurled screws cannot be completely removed.)
2. Pull the printer mainboard out of its slot by means of the
knurled screws.
Only hold the printer mainboard at its panel to avoid
damages to the circuit board.
3. Place the printer mainboard on a non-conductive mat (e.g.
rubber mat).

Preparing the Printer Mainboard
Proceed as follows:
1. Cover the circuit board of the printer mainboard and the
edges of its housing with cardboard in order to avoid injuries
to persons and damages to the device.
2. Remove the protective film above and next to the RJ-45
network connector on the printer mainboard.
(The protective film consists of pre-punched parts that can be removed
individually.)
After removing the protective film, a pre-punched metallic
cut-out can be seen above the RJ-45 network connector.
3. Remove the pre-punched metallic cut-out above the RJ-45
network connector on the printer mainboard.
(To do this, insert a flat screwdriver into the elongated hole at the cut-
out and carefully remove the cut-out by levering it back and forth.)

Mounting the Fiber Adapter
Proceed as follows:
1. Connect the included USB cable (mini-B connector) to the
Fiber Adapter.
2. Put the unconnected end of the USB cable (connector A) from
the outside through the hole in the panel and place it next to
the printer mainboard.
3. Connect the RJ-45 network cable of the Fiber Adapter to the
RJ-45 network connector of the printer.
(To make things easier, you can gently pull the RJ-45 network cable of
the Fiber Adapter out of the Fiber Adapter. After connecting the cable,
put it back into the housing of the Fiber Adapter.)
4. Place the Fiber Adapter from the outside above the cut-out on
the printer mainboard, as shown in the following:
- The part of the circuit board that protrudes from the Fiber
Adapter and the USB port (mini-B) slightly stick out of the
cut-out and the circuit board of the printer mainboard.
- The holes of the Fiber Adapter and the holes next to the
cut-out are congruent.
Make sure that the RJ-45 network cable of the Fiber
Adapter does not get wedged.
5. Attach the Fiber Adapter to the printer mainboard using the
screws included in the package.
6. Remove the cardboard that you have placed on the circuit
board and housing of the printer mainboard.
7. Connect the free end of the USB cable (connector A) to the
next available USB port on the circuit board of the printer
mainboard.
