TolearntorideyourSDS,youmustreadandfollowallinstructionsandwarningsintheUserManual.
ItisimportanttofollowallsafetywarningsandcautionsthatappearthroughouttheUserManualandthatyou
usegoodjudgmentwhenridingyourSDS.
TheSDSisaself-balancing,personaltransporterthatusesbalancingtechnology.Balancingtechnology
cannotpreventinjuryifyoudonotridetheSDSsafely.

1. Terrain:Ridingonsmooth,atterrainimprovesrange,andridingonhillyterrainandunpavedsurfaces
reduces range.
2. SpeedandRidingStyle:Ridingataconsistent,moderatespeedwillincreaserange.Frequentstarting,
stopping,acceleration,anddecelerationwillreducetherange.
3. TireInationPressure:Ridingwithtirepressuresbelowthespeciedlimitreducesrangeandcanresult
in premature tire wear.
4. RiderWeightandCargo:Lighterriderswithlesscargoexperiencebetterrangethanheavierriderswith
more cargo.
5. Temperature:Storing,charging,andridingintemperaturesclosetothemedianoftherecommended
temperaturerangeimprovesrange.Ridingincoldertemperaturesreducesrangesignicantly.
6. BatteryCondition:Properlychargedandmaintainedbatteriesprovidegreaterrange.Old,cold,heavily
used,orpoorlymaintainedbatteriesprovidelessrange
7. Wind:Ridingwithatailwindincreasesrange.Ridingagainstaheadwindreducesrange

SPEED

1. Noassemblyorinstallationisrequiredforthebattery;thebatterywillcompletelyinsertedintotheSDS
straight from the manufacture.
2. ThebatterywillbefullychargedandtheSDSisreadyforimmediateuse
BATTERY USE
WARNING
FailuretochargetheBatteriescouldresultindamagetotheBatteries.Leftunplugged,theBatteriescouldfully
dischargeovertime,causingpermanentdamage.
1. Chargingtimesvarydependingonthefollowing:
2. Amountofchargealreadystoredinthebatteries—thelowerthebatterychargeLevelis,thelongerit
will take to complete the charging process.
3. TemperatureoftheBatteries—Batteriesthataretoohotortoocoldmaynotchargeormaytakemuch
longertocharge.Batterieschargemostefcientlywhentheyareclosetothecenterofthe
recommendedchargingtemperaturerange.See“batteryparameters”diagramabove
4. Ifstoragetemperatureisbelow32°F/0°C,donotchargeyourbatteries.Instead,bringthemintoa
warm(above50°F/10°C)environmentforcharging.Doingsowillensureoptimalbatterylifeand
performance.

BATTERY PARAMETERS

DonotinsertthePowerCordplugiftheChargePort,PowerCord,orACPoweroutletiswet.
To charge the battery
1. PutyourSDSinaclean,dryplace,withintherecommendedchargingtemperaturerange.
2. VerifythattheChargePort,PowerCord,andACPoweroutletareclean,dry,andfreeofdebris.
3. PlugoneendofthePowerCord(providedwithyourSDS)intoagroundedACoutlet
(100V–240V;50Hz–60Hz).ThePowerCordshouldbeproperlygrounded
4. PlugtheotherendofthePowerCordintotheChargePortlocatedontheSDS(nexttopowerbutton).
NOTE:youhavetheoptiontosecurelyinsertpowercordintothechargeportbyturningthepower
cord clockwise and tightening on to the cap threads
5. VerifythatthetwoChargeIndicatorlightsilluminatestoconrmthebatteryischarging.NOTE:red
lightindicatormeansthebatteryischarging.GreenlightindicatormeanstheSDSisfullychargedand
is ready for use
6. Ittakesapproximately2hoursforthebatterytofullycharge
NOTE:
TheSDSchargingsystemautomaticallypreventsoverchargingandwillautoshutoffwhencompletelycharged.PlugyourSDSintoa
groundedACpoweroutletwhenitisnotinuse.However,Ifyoudonotplantouseitforanextendedperiodoftime,visityourSDSevery
monthandremoveandreinsertthepowercordtoensurethechargingsystemisworkingproperly.
BATTERY CHARGING

ThissectiondescribeshowtoridetheSDS.Itdiscussesridingforthersttimeandgivesguidelinesand
helpfulhintsforallrides.FollowthesestepstolearntorideyourSDS.Itisimportantthatyoupracticeridingin
acontrolled,familiarenvironmentuntilyouarecomfortableusingyourSDS.
Beforeriding,makesureyourSDSisassembledandfullycharged.InspectyourSDSbeforeeachuse.Do
notrideifanypartisloose,damaged,orifthetiresarenotproperlyinated.
RIDING FORM
Your posture and stance affect your ability to ride safely:
1. Bealert.Scanbothfaraheadandinfrontofthewheels—youreyesareyourbesttoolforsafely
avoidingobstaclesandslipperysurfaces.
2. Keeparmgriponthehandlebar,yourlegsloose,andkneesandelbowsbent.Thishelpsyou
maintainyourbalanceoverroughterrain.
3. KeepyourfeetcenteredontheMats.
4. Practicecontrolledstopping.

AVOIDING HAZARDS
TheSDSishighlymaneuverableandallowsyoutoeasilynavigatearoundobstacles.However,toprevent
thelossoftraction,youmustalwaysbecarefulwhenridingandlearntoidentifyandavoidslippery,icy,orwet
surfaces,loosematerials(sand/gravel),steepslopes,andobstacles.StopandstepofftheSDSandmovethe
SDSovertheunsafesurfacesorterrain;donotrideoverunsafesurfaceswhileridingSDS.
AVOIDING SLIPS
TheSDStiresmustbeabletogripthegroundforthemachinetostayupright!Slipsoccurwhenthetireslose
traction,potentiallycausinglossofcontrolandafall.Abruptmaneuvers,andridingoverslipperysurfaces,
looseobjectsandmaterials,orsteepslopescancausethetirestolosetraction.
1. Avoidabruptmaneuvers,suchasfaststoppingorstarting.
2. Avoidridingonslipperysurfacessuchassnow,ice,wetoors,wetgrass,oranyothersurfacethat
might cause slipping.
3. Avoidridingoverlooseobjectsormaterialssuchassmallbranches,litter,orsmallstones.
4. Usecautionwhenridingoveranyterrainchangesuchaspavementtograss,oroverathresholdor
speed bump.
5. Avoidridingonsteepslopes.Maintaintirecontactwiththeground

To prepare for your rst ride:
1. Selectanappropriateareaforyourrstride.Thisareamaybeindoorsoroutdoorsandshould
measureatleast12feetby12feet(4metersby4meters).Itmusthavealevel,smoothridingsurface
withgoodtractionandshouldbefreeofobstructionsandawayfromvehicles,bicycles,pets,small
children,andotherdistractions.
2. You will need a spotter who has studied all the instructions and warnings in this manual to help you
and assist you with the instructions.
3. Putonyourhelmetandfastenandadjustthechinstrapinaccordancewiththehelmetmanufacturer’s
instructions.
4. MovetheSDStothecenteroftheridingarea.
5. Familiarizeyourselfwiththeiconsthatmaybedisplayedonthecontrolboard
STEP 1: PREPARING FOR YOUR RIDE

1. PowerontheSDSbypressingthepowerbuttonlocatedonthefrontoftheSDS,alightindicator&
beepingnoisewilloccurtoindicatesuccessfulturnonactivation
2. Withassistancefromyourspotter,placeonefootonthecenterofthefootmat,thenplacingsecond
footonthescooteruntilyouhavereachedperfectbalance
3. Whilemaintainingbalance,slowlytiltbothfeetforwardontheSDStoactivateforwardmotion;similarly,
tiltfeetbackwardstoactivatebackwardmotionoftheSDS-See diagram below:

Thiscanleadtolossofbalancecausingseriousinjuryormaycausethescootertonotoperateproperly.

OnceyoubecomeskilledusingtheSDS,youmaybegintouseoutdoors.
WARNING Foryoursafetypleasemakesure:
1. Towearcomfortablecasualoratsportswearshoes
2. Practiceinanopenareawithoutobstructions
3. Makesurethegroundsurfaceisatandlevel
4. Avoidheavilypopulatedareas
IntheeventtheSDSisnotbeingoperatedproperly,itwillindicatethisbyblinkinglightsandsoundingalarms
orsystemshutdown.Thefollowingwillimproperuseswilltriggerthesystemalarms:
1. Movingforward/backwardmorethan10degreestoofast
2. Thebatteryvoltageislow
3. TheSDSischarging
4. TheSDSisoperatingonprohibitedsurfaces
5. Exceedingspeedlimit
6. Lossofbattery
7. Continuousrockingbackandforthwithin30seconds
8. Abruptlymovingforwardorbackwardmorethan35degrees
9. Tirerotorswilllockifinastoppositionformorethan2seconds
10. Excessivebatterylossafter15secondsofcontinuousclimbingsuchasasteephill
