INSTRUCTIONS

at t e desired tempo. T e Snark will calculate t e
tempo between two taps. Or t e up / down
triangular buttons on t e front can also be used to
adjust t e tempo. To exit t e metronome function,
simply press t e power switc on t e front of t e
tuner.
TONE GENERATOR
To play reference tones C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#,
G, G#, A, A# and B, press t e TONE button on t e
top edge of t e tuner. T en press eit er t e UP or
DOWN ARROW buttons to play t e tones in
ascending or descending order.
To leave t e TONES function, press t e
POWER button on t e front of t e tuner.
POWER SAVE FEATURE
T e tuner display will dim after approximately 5
seconds of no sound detected by t e tuner. T is
conserves battery power. T e display will return to
normal brig tness w en a note is detected. If no
notes are detected for 2 minutes, t e tuner will
s ut off.
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
T e tuner uses 2 AAA (1.5 volt) batteries. To
replace battery, open t e battery compartment,
remove t e old batteries and replace wit fres
ones, taking care t at t e positive terminals (+) of
t e new batteries matc t e diagram inside t e
battery compartment.

FEATURES
T ank you for purc asing Snark! T e frequency
range detected by t e SN-3 is optimized for guitar.
T e SN-4 is able to detect an extended frequency
range and can be used for all instruments including
guitar. Bot tuners are c romatic, and bot ave a
1/4 inc input jack and an internal microp one for
note detection.
POWER UP & PITCH CALIBRATION
Turn on t e Snark by pressing t e power switc
on t e face of t e tuner.
T e Snark defaults to t e tuning reference of
A-440Hz. To set t e Snark to anot er tuning
reference, pus t e “PITCH CAL” button on t e
front of t e tuner and immediately press eit er t e
up or down triangular buttons to c oose a new
tuning reference. T e pitc reference can be set
anyw ere from 415 – 466Hz. Pressing t e power
switc on t e front resets t e tuner to A-440.
TUNING
T e Snark is now ready to elp you tune your
instrument. As soon as you play a note, t e
Snark’s color display will indicate t e note you are
playing and ow close to pitc you are. T e left
side of t e display (red) indicates flat, t e rig t of
t e display (yellow) indicates s arp.
If only red needles are lit, it means t e note
played is flat. If any yellow needles are lit, it means
t e note played is s arp.
You are in tune if t e green needle and t e
green dot above it (at center of meter) are lit, but
no yellow needles are lit.
As t e Snark is c romatic, you can easily deal
wit non-standard tunings. T e Snark will read any
note you play.
TRANSPOSE FEATURE
For guitar players using a capo, you can use t e
Snark’s flat tuning feature, engaged by pus ing t e
“” triangular button on t e front of t e Snark.
Press t e “” triangular button once and t e front
display will indicate a single “”, w ic
corresponds to aving a capo on t e first fret of
your guitar. In t is setting, t e lowest note on t e
guitar is an “F”, but t e Snark will read it as t e
standard “E”, making tuning appear to be
standard. If t e capo is on t e second fret, it t e
“” button twice, and t e display will s ow “”.
Additional pus es of t e “” button will give you
up to four flats, corresponding to putting t e capo
on t e fourt fret.
To return to standard tuning, continue to press
t e “” button until t e flat symbols disappear
from t e front of display. Or turn t e tuner off and
on again to return to standard tuning.

T e Snark’s transpose feature is also useful for
non-concert tuned instruments, suc as B 
trumpet. By selecting a single “”, a played “C”
(w ic is concert B ) will register as a “C”.
T e tuner display will dim after approximately 5

normal brig tness w en a note is detected. If no
notes are detected for 2 minutes, t e tuner will

TAP TEMPO METRONOME
T e Snark as a built-in metronome w ic is
activated by t e “TAP-MET” switc on t e top
edge of t e tuner. One tap activates t e
metronome to a default setting of 100 bpm,
indicated by t e flas ing red eart on t e front
panel display. T e tempo can be adjusted in two
ways – first by tapping on t e “TAP-MET” switc
