prong. The wide blade or the third prong are provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your

• Note when the un t s turned off t s not completely d sconnected from the wall AC power
outlet. Do not open the cover unless the device is unplugged from the wall AC power outlet.

Introduction
Congratulat ons and thank you for purchas ng Factor Electron cs products. The
Factor Electron cs “VT” ser es d g tal tuners are des gned and bu lt to prov de ultra
rel able performance for profess onal background mus c and mult -room mult -
source aud o appl cat ons. All Factor Electron cs tuners feature color-coded
outputs, and ultra low no se components. The "VT" ser es d g tal tuners offer
RBDS "rad o broadcast d splay system" wh ch d splays the stat on ID, the art st
name and song t tle n the h gh qual ty dot matr x d splay. Also comprehens ve PC
control s standard v a RS232 or USB to RS232. Please read th s ent re manual to
get the most from your Factor Electron cs "VT" ser es tuner.
Unpac ing
The V-Ser es Tuners ncludes the follow ng parts:
1 x VT-1 or VT-4 Tuner
1 x VT-1/VT-4 Infrared Remote Control
2 x AAA Batter es
1 x AM Antenna
1 x FM Antenna

Quic Start: To get up and runn ng qu ckly refer to DIAGRAM A on the next page.
1. Connect the tuners RCA output jacks to the RCA nput on your ampl f er or pre-
ampl f er.
2. Connect the ncluded AM antenna to the back panel AM term nals.
3. Connect the back panel FM nput to your cable v s on outlet or the FM antenna
ncluded w th your tuner.
4. Plug n the AC power cord to an AC110V 60 Hz power outlet.
5. Press the front panel power button to the ON pos t on.
6 & 7. Press AM then Auto Scan on the front panel. The tuner w ll automat cally
scan all AM stat ons ava lable n your area and load them nto the memory presets
n ascend ng order. Press FM and Auto Scan and the process w ll be repeated for
all FM stat ons.
8. Adjust the front panel volume knob by turn ng to ach eve the des red volume
level.
9.To hear the presets, select AM or FM by press ng the correspond ng AM/FM
button then press the front panel preset buttons 1-6. The stat ons w ll be
d splayed on the front panel d splay.
The "VT" ser es tuners can store up to 48 preset stat ons. Press the AM/FM
buttons repeatedly to cycle through AM1, AM2, FM1, FM2, FM3, FM4, FM5 and
FM6. Each AM/FM memory level holds 6 presets.
10. Here’s another qu ck start method. Push then turn the Tune knob and cycle to
a stat on where you know the frequency. Stop on that frequency and the stat on
w ll be broadcast. To save that stat on nto the memory press the memory button
then press a preset button 1-6 then press the memory button aga n to conf rm
your select on and the stat on w ll be stored n that memory locat on. Th s w ll
automat cally overwr te the prev ously stored stat on n that memory locat on.
11. If you're not hear ng sound, adjust the back panel VOLUME knob wh ch s
located bes de the RCA output connectors.

VT-1 VT-4 IR Remote Control
- The VT-1 and VT-4 tuners nclude an IR
remote control. All the front panel buttons on the tuners are repeated on the remote
control. Use the remote to control the tuner funct ons w th n 30 feet of the tuner
ma nta n ng l ne of s ght for best results. The VT-1 VT-4 remote can also be used w th
IR repeater systems, wh ch support IR frequenc es between the ranges of 36K to
56K.
Additional VT-1/VT-4 remote controls are available for
purchase at your local Factor Electronics dealer.

Tuner Select
The VT-4 prov des 4 ndependent tuners. Press tuner buttons 1,2,3 or4 to select the
tuner you w sh to control. When us ng the VT-1 tuner these buttons w ll have no
effect.
Station Presets
The pre-set buttons prov de access to the tuner per-sets and work n conjunct on
w th the AM/FM, Auto Scan, Memory and Clear buttons. Press pre-set buttons 1-6 to
nstantly recall stat ons once stat ons are stored n the pre-set memory. To nstantly
store a stat on, nav gate to the des red stat on by press ng then turn ng the tune
knob on the front panel then press the memory button. Now press one of the pre-set
buttons 1-6 then press the memory button to conf rm and the stat on w ll be
automat cally stored n that locat on. NOTE: there are 4 pre-set levels and 48 pre-
sets that can be stored n the nternal memory.
AM/FM
The AM/FM buttons prov de access to the AM band (press AM) and the FM band
(press FM). Press these buttons repeatedly to access the 2 x AM and 6 x FM pre-set
levels.
ST/MONO
The VT ser es tuner s a stereo dev ce. In some commerc al sound appl cat ons t w ll
be advantageous to change the output to mono. Sw tch ng the tuner to MONO w ll
prov de two mono l ne level outputs per tuner that can be used to feed mult ple
ampl f ers.
MUTE
Press ng the MUTE button on the remote control w ll mute the tuner output. (no
sound w ll be broadcast). Press the MUTE button aga n and the aud o w ll resume.
NOTE: f there s no tuner output, check the MUTE button to nsure the tuner s not n
ts muted state.
SEEK + SEEK- -
Press Seek + and the tuner w ll scan to the next val d stat on n ascend ng order.
Press Seek – and the tuner w ll scan to the next val d stat on n descend ng order.

Memory
The memory button prov des access to the nternal pre-set memory locat ons. Th s
feature s handy for chang ng memory locat ons. Nav gate to a stat on. Press
MEMORY and the preset memory locat on w ll flash. Press the des red pre-set locat on
button 1-6. Press memory aga n and the stat on w ll be moved to the newly selected
locat on. Th s s an easy way to store your favour te stat ons n locat ons that are
easy to remember l ke memory locat on # 1.
CLEAR
The CLEAR button clears stat ons from presets 1-6. Press clear and the selected
stat on w ll flash. Press and hold the CLEAR button for approx mately 5 seconds to
nstantly clear the stat on from the pre-set memory.
Auto Sc n
Press and hold the AUTO SCAN button for three seconds, the tuner will scan all available AM or FM
stations and load them into the internal memory in ascending order. This will overwrite all saved presets.
(Note; if the tuner is in AM mode before pressing the AUTO SCAN button, the unit will scan and save
AM stations only. If the tuner is in FM mode before pressing the AUTO SCAN button, the unit will scan
and save FM stations only.

Front Panel Operation and Connections
Power On/Off -
The Power sw tch appl es power to the tuner.
Tune/ Tuner Volume Knob -
Th s push/turn knob has dual funct ons. 1) Turn the
knob clockw se or counter clockw se to adjust the output level of the tuner (rad o)
source. 2) Push then turn the knob clockw se or counter clockw se to cycle up or
down through the rad o frequenc es. Stop on a frequency and that stat on w ll be
broadcast.
STATION ID- The Station ID button displays the radio station ID for 3 seconds. Example FM 05.7.
If the currently selected station does not broadcast RBDS then “RDS N/A” will be displayed for
3 seconds. The default display status displays RBDS information constantly when RBDS is
broadcast from the selected station. If the currently selected station does not broadcast RBDS
The station ID will be constantly displayed.

TUNER + -
The tuner
+
and
–
buttons w ll adjust the tuners frequenc es n 0.10 steps. Th s
prov des the ab l ty to cycle up or down to f nd the stat ons you are search ng for. The
operat on of the remote control TUNER
+ -
buttons operates the same as the front
panel (push turn) Tune knob.
VOLUME + -
The volume
+ -
buttons w ll adjust the tuner volume up or down.
Please note that the back panel prov des a secondary rotary volume control wh ch
w ll not be affected by the volume
+ -
buttons located on the remote control. It
should also be noted that the VT-4 prov des four ndependent tuners. Adjust ng the
volume on tuner #1 w ll not affect the volume of the other three tuners. Make sure
you have selected the correct tuner w th the tuner select buttons before attempt ng
to adjust the tuner.

Front Panel Operation and Connections

the station ID will be constantly displayed.
TUNER SEL -
The VT-4 prov des 4 nd v dual tuners. Each tuner operates
ndependently and shares the same front panel and GUI controls. Press the Tuner
Select button to nav gate between tuners 1-4.

RS232 Control –
Th s jack prov des remote control of all tuner funct ons us ng a
personal computer. Connect the RS232 jack of your computer to the RS232 jack on
the back panel or use a USB to RS232 (DB9) converter to access these funct ons.
The VT ser es tuners nclude free software on the Factor Electron cs webs te at
www.factorelectron cs.com
Install ng the tuner control software on your PC s easy. S mply download the Free
software and follow the nstruct ons prov ded w th the nstallat on w zard. The VT
control software s compat ble w th W ndows XP, V sta and W ndows 7. After
connect ng the RS232 port to your computer, download the program. Then follow the
nstallat on w zard prompts. Once the program s successfully
nstalled you w ll have
control of all tuner funct ons: Select AM/FM , select spec f c AM/FM frequenc es,
select AM/FM presets, Auto Scan, Seek+ Seek-, Memory funct ons and tuner volume,
RBDS on/off and tuner 1-4 select for the VT-4.
IR This jack is a 3.5mm female two contact jack. Use this jack to connect wired Infrared systems
directly to the VT- or VT-4. All tuner functions except ON/OFF can be controlled through the IR port.
The VT- and VT-4 Infrared frequency rage is 36K to 56K. This feature allows the VT- and VT-4 to
be controlled remotely from another room or building with a compatible Infrared repeater system.
POWER CORD -
Connect the AC power cord to 120V AC outlets only. Do not connect
the power cord unt l all aud o connect ons are made. Ser ous damage may result f
the tuner s connected to AC l ne voltages other than 120V AC.
FUSE - TYPE T6, 315mA/250V -
Always use the correct fuse for replacement.
Fa lure to use the correct fuse or short ng the fuse could result n f re and ser ous
damage. Us ng the wrong fuse w ll vo d your warranty.

FM 75-OHM INPUT – This is a coaxial 75ohm terminal. Connect your cable-vision output
to this jack or use the included external FM antenna for the best FM reception. NOTE: It is
impossible to receive FM signals without an FM antenna. In areas of low radio signal strength,
use a good quality outdoor FM antenna.

Line Level Outputs RCA
– The L ne Level Output sect on offers stereo unbalanced
RCA +4 dB outputs and a rotary level control to match output levels w th other aud o
dev ces l ke ampl f ers and m xers. The VT-4 prov des four RCA stereo output jacks
and four ndependent level controls. All VT-4 RCA outputs are act ve prov d ng four
constant stereo outputs or e ght MONO outputs w th the front panel MONO feature
engaged. Th s s a handy feature when d str but ng aud o s gnals to mult ple
ampl f ers. The VT-4 tuners can broadcast four d fferent rad o stat ons
s multaneously.
AM ANTENNA INPUT
– Connect the ncluded AM antenna to rece ve AM rad o
stat ons by nsert ng the w res nto the push term nals. The nput term nals are not
polar ty sens t ve. Note: It s mposs ble to rece ve AM s gnals w thout connect ng an
AM antenna.
