Battery Installation
Insert four "AAA" batteries into the two battery
compartments on each side of the unit. It is very important
that before you get started that you make sure that you
have installed the batteries correctly.
If the batteries are installed incorrectly it is possible that
acid leakage will occur resulting in damage to your SC-
2000. If the "Weak Batt" light is illuminated, you should
check the position of the batteries immediately! However,
a blinking "Weak Batt" is normal and means that the SC-
2000 is monitoring its battery strength.
How to Program The SC-2000
The SC-2000 must be programmed for each device that
you wish to operate. The SC-2000 has two different sides.
The side marked "VIDEO" will control all of your video
devices such as TVs, VCRs, and Laser Discs (Laser Discs
may be programed on the other side). When programming
video devices, be sure to use the other side, however one
video device may be programed on the audio side using
the auxiliary key.
Programming your SC-2000 is a simple 4 step procedure.
Before starting you need to find the command code of the
device you wish to operate. These codes are listed
alphabetically, by manufacturer. We will use a Philips TV
as a video example, and an Onkyo receiver as an audio
example. The Philips code is 480, and the Onkyo code is
923. You may notice that there are several codes per
manufacturer. If the first code that you try doesn't work
your device try another until you find the one that works.
4-Step Programming--VIDEO
1. Flip to the VIDEO side and press "LOCK"
2. Press "SET". The yellow "SET" light at the bottom of
the remote should be lit. If it is lit you have 8 seconds
to complete the other two steps. If it is not lit, press
the "SET" button again.
3. Press "TV1." TV1, TV2, VCR1... are the device keys.
These keys tell the remote which kind of device is
being programmed.
4. Press "480". This is the command code mentioned
earlier for a Philips TV. If you entered the code
correctly the green "CODE ENTERED" light should
briefly flash. If the red "INVALID CODE" light flashes,
the "SET" light remains on, or nothing happens
repeat steps 1-3.
4-Step Programming--AUDIO
1. Flip to the AUDIO side and press "LOCK".
2. Press "SET".
3. Press "FM". This is the device key that corresponds
to Receivers. The "CD" and "LASER" are for the CD
players and the Laser Disc players.
4. Press "923". This is the command code we
mentioned before for the Onkyo receiver.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
When changing sides ALWAYS press the lock button ON
THE SIDE YOU HAVE CHANGED TO. This locks out the
unused side of the remote preventing a key from being
accidentally pressed.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Operating a device with the SC-2000 is no different from
operating the device with the original remote control. After
programming press the appropriate device key on the SC-
2000. For the Philips TV you would press "LOCK" and the
"TV1 " key. The SC-2000 will now operate all the original
functions of the Philips TV remote. If you press "POWER"
the TV will go on, etc... It you wish to operate another
device press the appropriate device key For a VCR press
"VCR1," for a cable unit press "CABLE," and so on.
To switch to the audio side flip the unit over and press
"LOCK" ON THE AUDIO SIDE. The last device you were
using on the audio side is now active. If your receiver was
the last device you used it will now be active. To make a
CD player or laser disc player active press the appropriate
key.
When your receiver is active all the function keys
appropriate to your receiver will be active. However, keys
which were not supported by your receiver's original will
not function. If you are using your receiver and wish to
change to your CD player press the "CD" key. Assuming
that you have entered the code for your CD player on the
"CD" key then after you have pressed the "CD" key the
receiver will switch to CD input and your CD player's
functions will now be active on the SC-2000. This isn't as
complicated as it sounds, most of the keys on the SC-2000
will function intuitively; if a key on the old remote looks like
it should be on a certain place on the SC-2000 then it
probably is!
NOTE: The SC-2000 will only operate one device at a time.
At the bottom of the SC-2000 you will notice ten keys
labeled A-J. These are the secondary function keys and
control functions such as "Space Phone," "Picture In
Picture," and other functions which do not always fit on the
remote such as "Phono play," or "Tape 2 pause" that do
not appear on the labeled keys of the SC-2000. When you
find your device command code look to see what
secondary functions that command code supports. If there
are functions which your original did not have this does not
mean that these functions will work. ONLY those functions
supported by your original remote will work.
All the secondary functions your remote supports might not
appear in the lists. Many of these functions have been
standardized to certain keys UNLESS OTHERWISE
NOTED. Below is a list of the functions that have been
standardized for CD's, Receivers, and Laser Disc Players:
Function Key Standardized To
TIME (any function having
to do with the display of
time)
“DISP”
PROGRAM “ENT”
SEEK Up/Down & PRESET
Up/Down “TUNE” Up/Down
TRACKING (CD, Laser) “SKIP << && >>”
