Operating Instructions
Before operating the unit, please read this manual thoroughly and retain it for
future reference.
Owner’s Record
The model number is located at the bottom and the serial number is located in
the battery compartment. Record the serial number in the space provided below.
Refer to these numbers whenever you cal! upon your Sony dealer regarding this
product.

Do

the

Operate
the
unit
only

120V
AC,
60Hz,
or
6V
DC,
with
four
size
C
(R14)
batteries.
For
AC
operation,
use
the
supplied
AC
power
cord.
Do
not
use
any
other
type.

Disconnect
the
AC
power
cord
from
the
wall
outlet
when
the
unit
is
not
to
be
used
for
an
extended
period
of
time.
To
disconnect
the
cord,
pull
it
out
by
grasping
the
plug.
Never
pull
the
cord
itself.

internal
batteries
are
not
to
be
used,
remove
them
to
avoid
damage
caused
by
battery
leakage
and
corrosion.

Do
not
leave
the
unit

a

warm

recommended

the
locked
buttons
will
be
released
automatically.
Insert a cassette.
Monitoring the recording
Connect the optional earphone. The monitoring volume is fixed.
Recording with an external microphone
Connect an external microphone to the MIC jack of this unit. The built-in
microphone is automatically disconnected.
When a microphone with PLUG IN POWER system is connected, power is
supplied with the microphone from this unit.
For indexing the tape contents
Use the COUNTER. Press the reset button to set the counter to “000”. The figure
on the counter increases during playback, recording and fast-forwarding, and
decreases during rewinding.

Cleaning the Heads and the Tape Path
Prolonged use may contaminate the tape heads and the tape path.
Contamination causes insufficient recording or sound drop-outs in playback.
Clean the tape heads and the tape path after every 10 hours of use to enjoy
optimum sound. Moisten a cotton swab or a soft cloth with alcohol, and gently
wipe the parts shown in the illustration.

After cleaning, press m& to release @ and m.
_Cleaning the Case
Clean the case with a soft cloth slightly moistened with water. Do not use
atcohol, benzine or thinner as they may mar the finish.

LIMITED WARRANTY
SONY CORPORATION OF AMERICA (‘SONY’) warrants this product against defects in material
or workmanship, as follows:
SONY:
1. For a period of 90 days from the date of retail purchase, SONY shall at its sole and absolute
option either repair the defective product at no charge or replace the defective product with the
same model or its equivalent model at no charge through a SONY SERVICE CENTER.
To obtain warranty service during the initial 90-day period, you must take the product, or deliver
the product prepaid, to one of the SONY SERVICE CENTERS located in the United States.
2. After the initial 90-day period, SONY will supply, at no charge, new or rebuilt replacements
for defective parts for a period of 1 year from the date of retail purchase.
Labor for removal and installation of these parts is available from your SONY authorized service
facility or SONY SERVICE CENTER, at your expense.
Proof of purchase in the form of a bill of sale or receipted invoice, which indicates that the product
is within the warranty period, must be presented to obtain warranty service. SONY suggests that
the purchaser retain the dealer's dated bill of sale as evidence of the date of retail purchase.
This warranty does not cover cosmetic damage, and damage to any part of the product, including
the antenna, which results from acts of God, accident, misuse, abuse, improper maintenance, or
connection to an improper voltage supply.
This warranty is valid only if the serial number appears on the product. This warranty is valid only
in the United States of America.
