At the heart of the NEX-5 and NEX-3 is a powerful new 14.2-
megapixel* Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor, specially tuned to deliver
uncompromising still-photo and movie image quality. Equal in surface
area and performance to the APS-C image sensors used in
conventional digital SLR cameras.

Sony took a radical new approach to camera design with the NEX-5 and NEX-3, eliminating
the mirror box and viewfinder optics found in conventional SLRs. The result is an
interchangeable lens camera that offers a class-leading combination of low weight, compact
size, and SLR-class photographic performance. In fact, the NEX-5 and NEX-3 are two of the
lightest, most compact interchangeable lens cameras in the world today –The true
miniaturisation of a digital SLR camera.
Revolutionary Design
Through iAuto mode, the NEX-5 and NEX-3 automatically apply exposure
values and Scene Selection modes that are optimized to suit each scene.
With the ability to defocus the background to make your main subject
stand out from the scene. Simply press and rotate the control wheel to
set the level of background defocusing you want.
Ease of Use
The main menu features adjustable background colour and six icons
that can be selected simply by rotating and pressing the control wheel.
The wide-screen format of the LCD monitor also contributes to
enhanced menu legibility making text and icons easy to see and select.
The amazing Sweep Panorama mode lets you capture scenic vistas of
unprecedented scale and grandeur. Simply choose Sweep Panorama
from the Shoot Mode menu, and move the camera in a smooth arc.
The NEX-5 and NEX-3 also features 3D imaging support, adding yet
another dimension of enjoyment to Sweep Panorama shooting and
viewing pleasure.

The large, 3-inch Xtra Fine LCD monitor boasts a 16:9 widescreen display with LED backlighting and stunningly crisp
921k -dot resolution. Viewing and focusing is enhanced by Sony TruBlack technology which cuts reflection and glare
and achieves vibrant colours and deeper, richer blacks, with high contrast that sharply reveals fine image details. The
large Xtra Fine LCD monitor can be angled to ease high and low angle shooting and viewing pleasure.
