Replacement Instructions

Step 1. Prepare the Computer.
CAUTION:Make sure the
computer is turned off, the lid is
closed, and the AC Adapter is
disconnected. Failure to do so can
result in damage to the computer.
Place the computer upside down on a
protected surface with the front edge
facing you.
Step 2. Remove the Battery Pack.
Locate the two tabs securing the battery
pack. Using your thumbs and fingers
push both tabs in the release direction.
Carefully remove the battery by lifting the
side where the arrow is pointing.
(HDD Removal) Steps 3-7
Step 3. Locate HDD Bay.
Rotate the computer with the Hard
Disk Drive (HDD) bay facing you as
shown in the picture.

9To avoid electric shock, please make sure product is turned off and AC Adaptor is disconnected
from the power source. Remove jewelry before you begin work to avoid scratching the surface of
your notebook computer.*
9Place your notebook computer on a clean, stable and covered surface to avoid damage to the
computer’s case.*
9Follow the ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) damage prevention instructions:
oHold parts by the edges, away from exposed circuitry when possible.
oDo not walk around excessively as this promotes static build-up.

Step 4. Using the enclosed magnetic
screwdriver, loosen the one screw
securing the hard disk drive access
cover.
Step 5. To remove the HDD access
cover, start by lifting from the side where
the screw held it in place.
Step 6. Using the enclosed magnetic
screwdriver, remove the three (3)
screws securing the HDD assembly.
Step 7. Carefully pull the clear plastic
tab towards you to detach the HDD
from the connector.
(HDD Reinstallation) Steps 8-11
Step 8. Replace the old HDD assembly
with the new one. Hold the HDD on the
sides to avoid damaging the part.
Step 9. Attach the HDD assembly to
the HDD connector. Make sure the
screw holes are aligned correctly.
Step 12. Reinstall the battery pack and
reconnect the AC Adaptor.
Power on your computer and continue
with the recovery process by following
the instructions described on the back
of the recovery disk’s case.
Return the old HDD to Sony following
the included shipping instructions.
Step 10. Re-install the three (3) screws
securing the HDD assembly in place.
Step 11. Re-install the HDD cover.
