SAFETY CHECK-OUT
After correcting the original service problem, perform the following
safety checks before releasing the set to the customer.
Check the area of your repair for unsoldered or poorly-soldered
connections. Check the entire board surface for solder splashes
and bridges.
Check the interboard wiring to ensure that no wires are
“pinched” or contact high-wattage resistors.
Look for unauthorized replacement parts, particularly
transistors, that were installed during a previous repair. Point
them out to the customer and recommend their replacement.
Look for parts which, though functioning, show obvious signs
of deterioration. Point them out to the customer and
recommend their replacement.
Check the line cord for cracks and abrasion.
Recommend the replacement of any such line cord to the
customer.
Check the B+ voltage to see it is at the values specified.
Check the antenna terminals, metal trim, “metallized” knobs,
screws, and all other exposed metal parts for AC leakage.
Check leakage as described below.

LEAKAGE TEST
The AC leakage from any exposed metal part to earth ground and
from all exposed metal parts to any exposed metal part having a
return to chassis, must not exceed OSmA (500 microampers).
Leakage current can be measured by any one of three methods.
1. Acommercial leakage tester, such as the Simpson 229 or RCA
TW-540A. Follow the manufacturers’ instructions to use these
instruments.
2. A battery-operated AC milliammeter. The Data Precision 245
digital multimeter is suitable for this job.
3. Measuring the voltage drop across a resistor by means of a
VOM or battery-operated AC voltmeter. The “limit” indication
is 0.75V, so analog meters must have an accurate low voltage
scale. The Simpson 250 and Sanwa SH-63Trd are examples
of a passive VOM that is suitable. Nearly all battery operated
digital multimeters that have a 2V AC range are suitable. (See
Fig. A)

SERVICE NOTE
Do not unpack or install or repair the optical pickup unit KHS-190A series without the grounding
processing as shown below.
I Grounding the human body
Be sure to wear a grounding wrist strap (I 0Qor less) around your wrist to ground the static electricity accumulated in human body.
2. Grounding the work bend
Place a conductive sheet (I 0 .Q or less) or a copper plate on the work bench on which the merchandise to bc repaired is placed. (The black
sheet that is used for packaging the optical pickup unit, is a conductive sheet.) Connect the conductive sheet or the copper plate to an
electrical ground.
3. Be careful that your clothes do not touch the optical pickup unit because the static electricity accmlnllated in your clothes are not
grounded through the grounding wrist strap.
4. When the optical pickup unit is shipped from the factory, the laser diode pins are shorted to protect the laser diode from static electricity.
To open the shorting, connect the laser diode to an appropriate APC (Automatic laser Power Control) circuit first, then remove the
soldering quickly with a soldering iron having the insulation resistance of IM or more.

Notes on VIDEO CDs with PBC (Playback Control)
functions
This player conforms toVer. 1.1 andVer. 2.0 of WE0 CD standards. You can
enjoy two kinds of playback according to the disc type.

VIDEO CDs with PBC Play interactive software using menu screens
functions (Ver. 2.0 discs) displayed on the TV screen (PBC Playback), in
addition to the video playback functions of Ver 1.1
discs. Moreover, you can play high-resolution still
pictures, if they are included on the disc.
Terms for discs
l Title
The longest sections of a picture or a music piece on a DVD VIDEO; a movie,
etc. for a picture piece on a video software or an album, etc. for a music piece
on an audio sofhvare. Each title is assigned a title number enabling you to
locate the title you want.
l Chapter
Sections of a pichxe or a music piece that are smaller than titles. A title is
composed of several chapters. Each chapter is assigned a chapter number
enabling you to locate the chapter you want. Depending on the disc, no
chapters may be recorded.
l Track
Sections of a picture or a music piece on a VIDEO CD or a CD. Each track is
assigned a track number enabling you to locate the track you want.
l Index
A number that divides a track into some sections to easily locate the point
you want on a VIDEO CD or a CD. Depending on the disc, no index may be
recorded.

On a WE0 CD with PBC functions, the menu scx!ens, moving pictures, and
still pieties are divided into sections called “scenes.” Each scene is assigned
a scene number enabling you to locate the scene you want.

Check to make sure you have received the following

When to replace
batteries
With normal use, the
batteries should last for
about six months. When
the remote no longer
operates the player,
replace all the batteries
with new ones.
Inserting batteries into the remote
You can control the player using the supplied remote.
Insert hvo R6 (size AA) batteries (not supplied) by
matching the .t and - ends on the batteries to those
inside the battery compartment.
Notes
l If you do not use batteries correctly, it may cause damage
from leakage and corrosion. Please follow the directions
below:
-Make sure the polarity is correct.
- DOnot use a new battery with an old one or mix different
types of batteries.
- Do not charge a dry cell battery.
-If you will not use the remote for an extended period of
time, mnove the batteries.
If you have battery leakage, replace with new batteries
after cleaning the battery case.
l Do not expose the remote sensor Hto direct sunlight or
other lighting apparatuses. Doing so may cause a
malfunction.

coded cord to the appropnate connectors on the
components Yellow (wdeo) to Yellow, Red (right) to
Red, and White (left) to White Be sure to make
connections firmly to avold hum and noise

On a DVD VIDEO, long sections of movies or musk
pieces are dlvlded mto smaller segments Each of
