Starizona MicroTouch User manual

These instructions describe the installation of the Starizona MicroTouch stepper motor onto the focuser
of a Sky-Watcher USA telescope. Separate instructions are included with the MicroTouch autofocuser
for the operation of the electronics and software.
Remove the Focus Knobs from the Sky-Watcher Focuser
Both the fine-focus black) and coarse-focus silver) knobs need to be removed. They are each held on
by a single set screw. Use the included 2mm hex wrench to loosen the screws, then slide each knob off
the focuser.

Attach the Focuser Gear
Slide the included brass gear onto the smaller fine-focus shaft of the focuser. The gear hub with the set
screw goes toward the focuser, and the gear teeth should be away from the focuser as shown. The gear
should slide all the way onto the shaft. Leave a tiny gap between the brass gear and the brass portion of
the focuser so there is no drag. Use the included 1.5mm hex wrench to tighten the gear set screw.

Attach the Stepper Motor
Slide the stepper motor over the gear and onto the silver cylindrical portion of the focuser. You may
need to wiggle the motor a bit to get the gear teeth to mesh. The motor should go almost all the way
over the silver part of the focuser when the gears are fully meshed. Use the included 7/64” hex wrench
to tighten the clamp screw on the stepper motor.

Warnings
Do not try to turn the focus knob on the opposite side of the focuser while the motor is installed.
The tension thumbscrew on the bottom of the focuser must be loose while the motor is installed.
You are now ready to head out under the stars and autofocus your telescope!
