WML Sumo Thin Client User Guide
Introduction to Su o Thin Client
The Sumo Thin Client is a revolutionary Linux based thin client that allows easy windows style
setu . Sumo su orts NoMachine NX, Citrix ICA client version 9, RDP5 connections, SSH
(o enssh), VNC (tightVNC) and X server (unix XDMCP).
The Sumo rovides web browsing ca abilities with Mozilla Firefox 1.5. Numerous embedded
a lications are rovided for system admins and ower users (sc , sft , nano, vi and dillo).
A unique feature of the Sumo is that rograms normally associated with Windows based latforms
can be embedded. The inclusion of the Mono runtime environment makes this ossible. Mono is an
im lementation of the .NET 1.1 framework. The Sumo rovides Mono with Winforms and GTK#.
These .NET a lications can reside on a local webserver and the latest version of the a lication
will be dynamically loaded on ower u to every Sumo box on the network. This feature will allow
you to centrally manage the software a lication and reduce the su ort required to maintain
standard user deskto s.

Technical Data
Connectivity Ports
The unit comes with four USB V1.1 orts for this articular model. You can use one or all
simultaneously for keyboard and mouse or other eri herals.
Powering on/off
The on/off button is the sole means for owering the unit on or off. When the on/off button is
ressed while the unit is owered on, the Sumo will go into shutdown mode and will ower off after
about 3 seconds. If the unit fails to ower off, hold the on/off button down for 10 seconds.
Monitors
The Sumo requires that the connected monitor rovides the DDC rotocol which allows the Sumo
to determine the available resolution and frequency settings for the monitor. Most modern monitors
are DDC com liant.

an RJ45 network cable.
Connect the su lied ower ada ter to the Sumo and ress the on/off button and the blue led should
illuminate and the unit should boot.
Note: USE ONLY THE SUPPLIED POWER ADAPTER OR YOU WILL INVALIDATE
ANY WARRANTY.
The initial screen gives you the o tion of switching to your chosen locale. This will set the language

Client Connection Manager
The client connection manager runs every time the Sumo thin client is owered u . It manages all
of your connections and rovides an interface for you to configure new connections. You can
always return to the Connection Manager using the key combination Ctrl-Alt-End (exce t when
initially running the Setu Wizard).
The connection manager manages the windows of each running connection and allows you to
switch between the windows using the key combination Ctrl-Alt-Down.
There are a variety of ways to connect to a local or remote server, WML recommend using No
Machine NX. No Machine is a very cost effective and reliable method, it will allow multi le full
gra hic sessions to any machine that has the inex ensive No Machine server software loaded. With
No Machine NX you can also run a low erformance session to a remote server using a dial u
modem, although this would be slow in terms of res onse times.
The connection manager also allows you to configure Citrix ICA, RDP, VNC, SSH, telnet, www
and XDMCP connections. The setu of each connection is covered in the following sections.
Toolti s are rovided throughout the Connection and Setu Managers, giving you context sensitive
hel .

4. The “Name” field shows the name of the connection, as given by the administrator.
5. The “Ty e” field shows the connection rotocol.
6. The “Connected?” field will be checked for any connections which are currently active.
7. The “Program out ut” field shows the first line of any out ut generated by the connection,
after it has finished. This can be useful for diagnosing failed connections due to network
roblems.
8. The “Details” field will be checked if the connection generates out ut. Click on the
checkbox to view the full out ut in a se arate screen.
9. The “Terminal” button is o tional – it can be switched on in the Setu Manager. This is

In the address field, enter either the network name or the IP number of the NX server. The ort to
connect to is usually the same as the SSH ort (22) but this is not always the case. Enter the
username for the connection and check the checkbox if the assword should be stored on the thin
client between reboots. If stored, it will be ke t in hashed form in the connection's .nxs file.

WML Sumo Thin Client User Guide
Optional: NX key
NX connections use SSH to encry t the connection between the client and server and as such NX is
the most secure gra hical thin client connection available. The login rocess uses a two-stage
rocess. The first login uses a key-based login. A standard NX key is su lied as a default, and
using this key, a client can roceed to the second secure login, which uses a assword as
authentication token. If you use the default NX key on your server, then any client can ass the
stage 1 login, and can attem t to use assword based login to gain access to the server. This remains
secure, but relies on quality asswords.
To increase the security of your connection, you can re lace the default key on your NX server.
Please refer to Nomachine's documentation on setting u the NX server. Once you have generated a
non-standard key for the stage 1 login, you need to load it onto your Sumo thin client. Put the key
file on a USB en-drive and lug it into your Sumo. Press the “Manage Key” button in the NX
Connection Details window. The Public SSL Key window will a ear. While you could technically
ty e in the key, it would be a thankless task. Press the “Change Key” button to o en a file dialog,
which will allow you to find the key on your USB drive.
