LCI2 and Router Quick-Start Setup Instructions
SUPERSEDES: New EFFECTIVE: March 11, 2011
Overview
This document provides quick-start Ethernet setup instructions for the LCI2 in a typical home network. It explains how to
configure the LCI2 to communicate with PCs on the Internet.
NOTE: You must have a Static IP address from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to ensure that you will
always be able to contact your LCI.
Many home network connections receive a Dynamic IP address by default. Dynamic IP addresses can be
changed by your ISP at any time. If this happens, you won’t be able to reach your LCI over the Internet.
Please contact your ISP to determine and/or change your IP address type.
Configuring the LCI2 for communications on the Internet
The following procedure should be used to configure the LCI2 to communicate to any PC on the Internet. The router refer-
enced in the example is a Linksys brand router; default router addresses and settings may vary based on the router manu-
facturer.
Procedure Part A - Configure the LCI2 IP Address
1.This example assumes that the router has already been installed and connected to the Internet and is functioning
properly. If you are not sure about installing and connecting your router, please contact your router manufacturer for
assistance.
2.Connect the LCI2 to the router using a standard Ethernet cable.
3.Verify that the LCI2 obtained an IP address automatically from the router.
4.Sign-on to the LCI2 using the password.
5.Select Utilities from the Home screen
6.Select Network Setup from the Utilities screen
7.Select Ethernet Settings from the Network Setup screen
8.Verify Enable DHCP is set to “Yes”
9.If it is set to “No,” set to “Yes” and Save
10.Verify an IP address has been automatically placed in the following fields: IP address, Subnet mask, Default Gate-
way, Primary DNS, Secondary DNS and External Gateway.
11.Now that the IP addresses have been automatically set, disable DHCP (Set Enable DHCP to “No”). By setting this to
“No,” the LCI2 can be always accessed from the Internet using the same IP address.
NOTE TO IT PROFESSIONALS:
DHCP must be turned OFF on the LCI to manually set the IP address
Ensure that there are no IP address conflicts.
Ensure that the IP address assigned fits into the router's static IP address range.

Procedure Part B - Configure the Router for Outside Access to LCI
1.Configure the router so the LCI2 can be accessed from the Internet; again, this example is typical for a Linksys
router.
2.Your PC must be connected to the internal network at the site.
3.Launch Internet Explorer if using a Windows PC. Mac users must use Crossover and Internet Explorer for Mac.
4.Type http://192.168.1.1 in the address line of Internet Explorer, and then press Enter or Return on the keyboard.
(this is a typical address for a LinkSys router).
5.Enter the router password.
6.Select the Application and Gaming tab. Other routers may have a tab named Setup or Port Forwarding tab.
7.Using one of the unused entries on the tab, fill in the following information fields:
a.Application Name = LCI2
b.Start Port = 11000 (this value must be different than any other entries specified on this tab; no two applications
can use the same port)
c. End Port = 11001 (this value must be different than any other entries specified on this tab; no two applications
can use the same port)
d.Protocol = TCP
e.IP Address = enter the IP address as found in LCI2
f. Check the box labelled Enable and click Save.
Procedure Part C- Configure the LCI2 Port Number
1.From the LCI2’s Home screen, select Utilities
2.From the Utilities menu, select LCI Setup
3.From the LCI Setup menu, select Login Parameters
4.In the information field for HTTP Port, enter 11001
5.Press Save
6.Press Save again in the Set Login Parameters screen
NOTE: The LCI2 will reset after the http port is defined and saved.
Connecting to the LCI2 via another computer on the network
To use any computer on your network to connect to the LCI2 that was configured, launch Internet Explorer if using a
Windows PC. Mac users must use Crossover and Internet Explorer for Mac. Type the following in the address line:
http://<IP_address_as_set_in_LCI2>:11001
(do not type the < and > symbols - only type “http://” followed the IP address [4 numbers separated by periods], then a
colon [:], then the port number you specified in the LCI2 HTTP Port entry.)
Example only: http://198.162.0.6:11001
Connecting to the LCI2 via the Internet
To use a computer outside your network to connect to the LCI2 that was configured, launch Internet Explorer if using a
Windows PC. Mac users must use Crossover and Internet Explorer for Mac. Type the following in the address line:
http://<Public or Outside IP_address_of_router>:11001
