Do not install the unit on top of amplifiers or other
components that generate heat. When installing in a
rack, try by all means to install the unit in a position below
amplifiers or other components that generate heat.
Turn off power when not in use
Depending on the signal condition of television broadcasts,
if the television is turned on when the unit is already on, a
noise may appear on the television screen. Audible noise
may likewise occur when listening to the radio when unit
is already turned on. This phenomenon does not indicate a
malfunction of either the television, radio tuner, or the unit.
In this event, turn off the power to the unit.
Moving the unit
If you must move the unit, first remove any disc loaded and
close the disc tray. Press the main unit’s power button
(or the remote control unit’s DISC PLAYER button) so that
the [OFF] indicator in the display goes out, then unplug the

Maintenance
To clean the unit, use a polishing cloth to gently wipe the
unit’s surface to remove dust. If the surface is extremely
dirty, wipe with a soft cloth dipped in neutral cleanser diluted
five to six times with water and wrung out well. Do not use
volatile chemicals such as paint thinner or benzenes, as
these may corrode the surface of the panels. Do not use
sprays such as insecticides around the unit. If you plan on
using a chemical cleaning cloth, read the precautionary
statements of the chemical cleaning cloth before using.
Regarding condensation
During the winter or cool seasons, condensation may form
inside the player if it is brought into a warm room from
outside or other cold location, or if the temperature of the
room where the player is installed is raised too quickly.
When condensation forms inside the player, it may not
operate properly or at all. In this event, turn on the unit’s
power and allow it to stand for 1 to 2 hours so that the
condensation evaporates as the player acclimatizes to the
room’s temperature, and the unit will become playable
again. Condensation may also form in the summer if a
room’s air conditioner is directed directly at the unit. In
this event, change the location of the player away from the
airstream of the air conditioner.

INTRODUCTION
Inspiring the joy of listening
Technical Audio Devices Laboratories, Inc. (TADL) grew from the spirit to discover technologies to perfectly recreate the pure
sound of live performances with uncompromising craftsmanship. We have inherited our philosophy from Bart Locanthi—
recognized across the globe as the ultimate sound technologist—who believed that genuine technology is true to the basics
and that genuine technology places greater importance on sound quality than on technology for its own sake.
At TADL, we are honing our technology to create equipment that reproduces musical sounds that evoke both the energy and
impact of live music.
Features
Containing the “ultra-high speed C/N * master clock circuit” and the “third-generation UPCG**”
There has been a lot of effort put into reducing the total amount of jitters in order to achieve high sound quality. But here at
the TAD lab, we have focused on suppressing jitters in the low-frequency sideband ranges relative to the center frequencies.
We tried to further improve the sound quality and C/N by adopting the "SC-cut crystal piece" and subsequently succeeded in
letting the "UPCG" evolve to the third generation.
Based on technologies developed for high-speed digital base-station relay facilities, the master clock with its dedicated
oscillators and high-purity conductivity deliver the ultimate performance demanded by a CD player, allowing it to reproduce to
perfection the signals engraved on the disc.
*C/N: Carrier-to-Noise ratio
**UPCG: Ultra-high-Precision Crystal Generator
Purification of the power circuit
We tried to minimize power circuit’s contact with the outgoing lines by using the pigtail type inner winding for the power
transformer for the sake of high-level purification. We also suppressed the magnetostriction thoroughly by soldering with non-
magnetic materials and using OFC pure copper for the terminals for the pigtail-style lines, terminals for mounting substrates
and fastening screws.
Twin Differential D/A Converters
The D/A converters of Burr-Brown (192 kHz/24 bit) are used in parallel to improve audio performance, including S/N ratio,
linearity, dynamic range and distortion rate. These features allow even delicate audio signals to be played back faithfully,
creating a greater degree of breadth in musical reproduction.
Independent Power Supply
The unit features a power unit housed independently from the CD player itself. We separated the power unit from the main
unit, which could eliminate the harmful effects of extraneous vibration and magnetic flux leakage from the power unit on the
CD transport mechanism and audio circuits. Further, the audio and digital sections feature independent toroidal transformers
with super-powerful 400 VA performance (on a par with the performance found in a power amp), producing the high response
necessary to follow virtually any signal, and achieving both high power and low noise.
Original CD mechanism with high-precision loading facility and excellent quietness
In order to pursue high-precision and accurate replay, we are developing original ideas at TAD. Our newly designed “High-rigidity
CD/SACD mechanism” enables operations with excellent vibration-damping properties due to the high-precision loading
mechanism using metal bearings. The pickup part employing infinite optical path shows highly stable performance and high
reading precision.
High-Rigidity Construction with Low Center of Gravity
In order to suppress the deleterious influence of external vibrations, a highly rigid cast-aluminum chassis with three-point
suspension has been introduced. Placement of the massive heavy base has been designed to lower the center of gravity, thus
further reducing vibrations. These design elements have made it possible to reproduce music signals with great stability while
avoiding the vibration caused by speaker pressure and other sources.
DAC Mode
With its high-precision D/A converters and high-purity master clock oscillators, the unit demonstrates equally high
performance as a D/A converter unit. A sampling rate converter and ultra-high C/N master clock for reclocking make possible
high-precision conversion.

Taking care of your player and discs
General
'Hold discs by the edge or by the center hole and edge.
'When you’re not using a disc, return it to its case and store upright. Avoid leaving discs in excessively cold,
humid, or hot environments (including under direct sunlight).
'Don’t glue paper or put stickers on to discs. Do not use a pencil, ball-point pen or other sharp-tipped writing
instrument to write on the disc.
'Don’t use self-adhesive disc labels on discs as these can cause the disc to warp slightly during playback causing distortion
in the sound.
Damaged and shaped discs
'Do not use cracked, chipped, warped, or otherwise damaged discs as they may damage the player.
'This player is designed to be used only with conventional, fully circular discs. Do not use shaped discs.
TAD disclaims all liability arising in connection with the use of shaped discs.
Cleaning discs
'Fingerprints and dust on discs can affect playback performance. Clean using a soft, dry cloth, wiping the
disc lightly from the center to the outside edge as shown below.
'If necessary, use a cloth soaked in alcohol, or a commercially available CD/DVD cleaning kit to clean a
disc more thoroughly. Never use benzine, thinner or other cleaning agents, including products designed
for cleaning vinyl records.
Cleaning the pickup lens
'The player’s lens should not become dirty in normal use, but if for some reason it should malfunction due to dust or dirt,
consult your dealer. We do not recommend using commercially available lens cleaners for CD players.
Always load discs
with the printed or
label surface facing up.
