2) Setup & Connections
Remove the amplifier from the box along with the listed accessories. Before attempting to
install your amplifier please check that the power markings indicated on the rear panel
correspond with you local power supply, if in doubt please contact your authorised Edwards
Audio dealer.
Plug the amplifier into a suitable AC mains socket (having already checked that the voltage
of your local supply matches the markings on the rear of your amplifier).
The use of some after market filters or power cords may impair performance, so it is
recommended that you start off using the power cords provided and plug directly into you
AC wall socket. The use of extension leads or blocks with lights on should be avoided
wherever possible.
Next connect your line level source components, such as a CD player by using any of the
auxiliary inputs. Phono MM is reserved for a turntable input. The amplifier is fitted with an
RIAA moving magnet turntable stage.
If you opted for a pre-amplifier output or a fixed output function then these outputs are
clearly marked on the rear panel. If the sockets are not present and you need them please
contact your authorised Edwards Audio dealer.
If the front panel has Bluetooth® in place of AUX1, select this, and sync to connect your
Bluetooth® source. With the amplifier on, select EA IA1 from the list of available Bluetooth®
devices. You can now listen to your favourite playlist and control volume within your chosen
music player application. For best performance and sound quality use the maximum output
from your device and use the volume control on the front panel of the amplifier.
Next you will need to connect your loudspeakers to the 4mm terminals marked on the rear
panel, observing polarity - RED for positive and BLACK for negative.
You can ONLY connect speakers using either 4mm plugs or Z plugs.

WARNING: This amplifier does not have short circuit protection.
Do NOT use bare wire connections.
This will invalidate your product guarantee.
Do NOT connect or disconnect with the power on.
Always turn the amplifier off to change connections.
!

3) Loudspeakers & Cables
This amplifier has been designed to be used with all normal 4-8 Ohm impendence speakers.
Other speakers outside this range should be avoided. Only use speaker cables with low
resistance and capacitance, such as our TALK 3 speaker cable. Cables with high resistance
(thin) or high inductance (widely spaced) will impair the performance of your amplifier but
will not cause damage. Speaker cables with high capacitance (tightly twisted or flat) will
cause ringing in the output stage and can cause the amplifier long term damage and are
best avoided.
4) Remote Control
The IA1 model amplifier only has the remote function. This is for volume up, down and mute
only. When muted the ‘E’ logo on the front panel will turn red and will return to blue when
normal operation is resumed.
5) Temperature
This amplifier has been designed to be warm to the touch when idle - please do not be
concerned. The whole case has been designed to act as a heat sink for the higher than usual
bias setting. This design is for improved performance. There is a thermal cut-out which will
disconnect the speakers in the event of over-temp operation. This will auto reset when the
temperature returns to within normal operational margins.
6) Front Panel Controls
There are only two user controls: A) the input selector (left hand knob); and B) the volume
control (right hand knob).
A) The input selector has 4 positions: The first position will select the MM turntable input; the
second position is for the AUX input. The third position is either for another line level AUX
input or for the Bluetooth® module if fitted. The fourth position is for the AUX2 input located
on the front panel via a standard stereo 3.5mm mini jack socket.
B) The volume control is adjusted with a clockwise/anticlockwise motion, making the volume
increase and decrease with rotation. Do NOT be concerned where the indent on the volume
control is, the amplifier has been designed to produce full output at around the 3 o’clock
position rather than the usual 12 o’clock position. This provides better control over low level
listening levels and channel balance.
The headphone input is located in the middle of the the front panel and when your
IA/IA1/2023/01 6

headphones are inserted your speakers will be disconnected. The volume should be
adjusted as required. It is important to remember that excessive volume can cause damage
to your hearing.
7) Listening
Having successfully connected and installed your amplifier into your system, you can now
enjoy it. We recommend that you do NOT use your new amplifier for sustained periods of
time at very high levels as this can cause damage to both your amplifier and loudspeakers -
not least, your ears!
8) Worldwide 5-year guarantee
There are no user serviceable parts inside, so please do not be tempted to play or modify
any part of the amplifier as this will invalidate your guarantee. Your guarantee entitles you to
have the unit repaired free of charge, during the first five years after purchase, provided that
it was originally purchased from an authorised Edwards Audio dealer. The manufacturer can
take no responsibility for defects arising from accident, misuse, abuse, wear and tear,
neglect or through unauthorised adjustment and/or repair, neither can they accept
responsibility for damage or loss occurring during transit to or from the person claiming
under the guarantee. The warranty covers the cost of parts and labour for five years from the
purchase date. After five years you must pay for both parts and labour costs. The warranty
does NOT cover transportation costs at anytime. This equipment should be packed in the
original packing and returned to the Edwards Audio dealer from whom it was purchased, or
failing this, directly to the Edwards Audio distributor in the country of residence. It should be
sent carriage prepaid by a reputable carrier and NOT by post. No responsibility can be
accepted for the unit whilst in transit to the Edwards Audio dealer or distributor; and
customers are therefore advised to insure the unit against loss or damage whilst in transit.
9) Conformance
The Edwards Audio IA series has been manufactured to conform with the protection
requirements of the EC Council directive 89/336/EEC relating to EMC by application of the
following standards: BS EN 61000-6-3:2007+A1:2011 Emissions Standard; BS EN
61000-6-1:2007 Immunity Standard; and the requirements of the EC low voltage directive
relating to electrical safety by application of the following standard: BS EN 62368-1:2014
International Safety Standard.
For the purposes of testing, the Edwards Audio IA/IA1 amplifier was used with high quality
interconnect cables supplied by CableTALK. Compliance with the above standards may only
be made if the unit is installed as per this manual and using the correct cables.
