Before Using the Unit
Maintenance
If the surface of the unit gets dirty, wipe
with a soft cloth or use a diluted mild
liquid soap. Be sure to remove any excess
liquid completely. Do not use thinner,
benzine or alcohol as they may damage
the surface of the unit. Allow the surface
of the unit to dry completely before
using.
CAUTION
Ensure this product is not exposed to
dripping or splashing and that no object
filled with liquids, such as vases, is placed
on the product.
Do not install this equipment in a confined
space such as a book case or similar unit.
Allow adequate air circulation around this
product.
Rechargeable Batteries
The R-2 uses a Nickel-Metal-Hydride battery
pack stored in the battery compartment.
Leaving the AC adaptor connected to the R-
2 and plugged into an AC line, even when
not in use, ensures the batteries will be fully
charged when you need to use the R-2 on
battery power. The R-2 can be used for 6 to
7 hours after batteries are fully charged.
<When the batteries need to be recharged,
the STANDBY/ON indicator blinks at
regular intervals. The blinking interval will
grow faster as the batteries get closer to
discharge until the R-2 shuts off
automatically to protect the batteries.
<When the R-2 is not being used but the
AC adaptor is plugged in, the batteries
will be completely charged within
approximately 3.5 hours from a full
discharge. During this period the
STANDBY/ON indicator will flash.
<When the R-2 is ON and the AC adaptor
plugged in, the batteries will be
completely charged within approximately
24 hours.
<It may take up to 4 charge and discharge
cycles before the batteries are operating
at full capacity when the R-2 is new or
left unused for several weeks.
It is suggested that the R-2 be plugged in
for about 12 hours before you use it for
the first time.
<Once the R-2 has been fully charged
while it is STANDBY, do not unplug the
AC adaptor and then immediately plug it
again. This will restart the charging cycle
even though the batteries are fully
charged. Doing this repeatedly will
damage the batteries.
<If the R-2 is not plugged in, the batteries
will slowly discharge as a safety measure.
Battery Replacement
When the batteries are exhausted, replace
the battery pack with a new one.
1. Remove the battery compartment cover.
2.Disconnect the battery pack connector,
and remove it.
3. Insert a new battery pack and attach its
connector.
4. Close the cover.
Caution:
<Do not heat or disassemble rechargeable
batteries. Never dispose of old batteries
by throwing them in a fire

Disposal of your old appliance

<As the unit may become warm during
operation, always leave sufficient space

<The voltage supplied to the unit should
match the voltage as printed on the rear
panel. If you are in any doubt regarding
this matter, consult an electrician.
<Choose the installation location of your
unit carefully. Avoid placing it in direct
sunlight or close to a source of heat. Also
avoid locations subject to vibrations and
excessive dust, heat, cold or moisture.
<Do not place the unit on an amplifier/
receiver.
<Do not open the cabinet as this might
result in damage to the circuitry or
electrical shock. If a foreign object should
get into the unit, contact your dealer or
service company.
<When removing the power plug from the
wall outlet, always pull directly on the
plug, never yank the cord.
<Do not attempt to clean the unit with
chemical solvents as this might damage
the finish. Use a clean, dry cloth.
<Keep this manual in a safe place for
future reference.

Connections
CAUTION:

<Read the instructions of each component you intend to use with this unit.
<Be sure to insert each plug securely. To prevent hum and noise, do not bundle the
connection cords.

AC Outlet
FM Telescopic Antenna
Stretch the telescopic antenna to it's
fullest length and rotate it to the
direction that gives the best reception.
FM Antenna
You can connect the provided lead-type
FM antenna to the terminal. While in FM
mode, tune in an FM station and extend
the lead to find a position for the best
reception. This antenna may need to be
repositioned if you move your unit to a
new location.
AUX IN jack
You can connect a portable audio player
to this jack.
Connect the LINE OUT or PHONES jack
(audio output jack) of the player using
the supplied stereo mini plug cable.
When using the PHONES jack of your
mini player, you must adjust the volume
of the mini-player or you may hear no
sound from your R-2.
<Turning the volume of the mini player
up too high may cause the sound from
your R-2 to be distorted. If this is the
case, reduce the volume of the mini
player until the distortion stops and then
adjust the volume level of the R-2 to a
comfortable listening level

PHONES
For private listening, insert the
headphone plug into this jack, and
adjust the volume using the VOLUME
knob.
<You can listen in stereo using
headphones when you are receiving an
FM stereo broadcast.
DC IN
Connect the provided AC adaptor to
this jack. Then connect the AC adaptor’s
plug to the AC wall socket.
<Do not use any AC adaptors other than
the one included with this unit to avoid
fire, electric shock, etc. Be sure to
connect the adaptor to an AC outlet
that supplies the correct voltage.
Frequency switch
When the TUNING knob is turned, the
frequency changes by fixed steps.
Use this switch to select the proper
stepping for your area.
10 kHz (U.S.A., Canada, etc.):
AM: 10 kHz steps, FM: 100 kHz steps
9 kHz (Europe):
AM: 9 kHz steps, FM: 50 kHz steps
To put your selection into effect, you
have to initialize the unit.
In the standby mode, hold down the
STANDBY/ON button for more than 8
seconds until the display lights up.
See page 9 for details.

CLOCK ADJUST
Hold down the CLOCK ADJUST button
for more than 3 seconds to enter the
clock setting mode. Then adjust the clock
using the MULTI JOG knob.
MULTI JOG/TUNING
In AM or FM mode, turn this knob to
tune in a station.
This knob is also used to adjust the time,
change timer settings, etc.
ALARM CHECK
Use this button to check the timer
settings.
MEMORY
Use this button to store preset channels
into memory.
SNOOZE/SLEEP
Use this button to set the sleep timer.
When the timer turns on the unit, press
this button to put the unit in standby
mode for 10 minutes.
PRESET
Use this button to select a preset channel.
FUNCTION (FM/AM/AUX)
Use this button to select FM, AM or AUX.
When a component is connected to the
AUX IN jack, select AUX to listen to the
external source.

Use this button to turn the unit on or
place it in standby.
The indicator lights when the unit is
turned on.
<When the batteries become discharged
and need to be recharged, the
STANDBY/ON indicator blinks at regular
intervals.
<Even when the unit is standby, the
indicator flashes at regular intervals while
charging the batteries.
The equipment draws a nominal
amount of power from the AC outlet
even with its STANDBY/ON switch in the
STANDBY position.
AVOLUME
Turn this knob to adjust the volume level.
BASS
Use this button to adjust the level of low
frequency information.
TREBLE
Use this button to adjust the level of high
frequency information.
ALARM 1/2
Use these buttons to set timers.

If the unit is disconnected from the power
supply and the batteries have been
completely discharged for about an hour, all
the settings kept in memory (such as preset
stations, clock and timer settings) will be
lost.
If you want to manually initialize the
settings:
In the standby mode, hold down the
STANDBY/ON button for more than 8
seconds until the display lights up.
Preset stations and the volume level will
be reset to the factory default settings.
Any alarm settings will be erased.

the clock.
Press the CLOCK ADJUST button.
The clock starts from 00 second.
<If the unit is disconnected from the power
supply and the batteries have been
completely discharged for about an hour,
clock and timer settings will be lost.

“SET” and “CLK” appear alternately.
<If no button is pressed for 10 seconds, the
clock setting mode will be cancelled.
If you want to change the hour mode,
press the ALARM CHECK button to
select 24 or 12 hour mode.
The default setting is 12-hour.

To show the SECONDS display
Press the CLOCK ADJUST button.
The display shows current seconds for
20 seconds, and returns to the normal
display.
Listening to the Radio
If the AM reception is poor
Turn the unit around to find the best
position for AM station reception. The
AM antenna is within the cabinet so
rotating the cabinet may improve the
reception.
If the FM reception is poor
For the best reception, rotate either the
extendable antenna or the plug-in wire
antenna until you receive stations clearly.

The level can be adjusted from MIN (00)
to MAX (30).

the unit on.
<The unit turns on with the source that
was last selected.
Select FM or AM using the FUNCTION

When the TUNING knob is turned, the
frequency changes by fixed steps.

the station you want to listen to is found.

Preset Tuning
You can store up to 10 stations into
memory.
Tune in a station you want to listen
to (see steps and of page 11).
Press the MEMORY button.
The PRESET indicator and a channel
number blink in the display.
Within 5 seconds, select a preset
location to store the station into
using the PRESET button.
Within 5 seconds, press the MEMORY
button.
The station is stored in memory.
Repeat steps to to store more
stations.

How to select preset stations
Press the PRESET button repeatedly until the
desired preset station is found.
Listening to an External Source
Connect the PHONES jack (audio
output jack) of a portable audio
player to the AUX IN jack of the R-2
using the supplied stereo mini plug
cable.
1Play the source, and adjust the
volume using the VOLUME knob of
the R-2 and the audio player.
When using the PHONES jack of your mini
player, you must adjust the volume of the
mini-player or you may hear no sound
from your R-2.

Sleep Timer
SLEEP 90, 60 or 30:
The power will be switched off 90, 60 or
30 minutes later.
Normal display:
The sleep timer is off.
<When you set the sleep timer, the display
is automatically dimmed after 20 seconds.
<The SLEEP indicator slowly blinks, and the
remaining time is momentarily displayed
once per minute.
If you want to check the remaining time,
press the SLEEP button once. The
remaining time will be displayed for 5
seconds, and then return to the normal
display.
The power can be switched off after a
specified amount of time.
Press the SLEEP button repeatedly until
desired time appears on the display.
Tone Control
Insert the headphones plug into the
phones jack ( ), and adjust the volume.
When a stereo FM broadcast is received,
you can listen to stereo sound by
connecting your stereo headphones to the
phones jack.
Also you can listen to stereo sound from
an external source that is connected to the
AUX IN jack.
CAUTION
Always lower the volume level prior to
plugging in your headphones. TO AVOID
DAMAGING YOUR HEARING - Do not
place your headphones on your head until
after you have plugged them in.
BASS TREBLE
VOLUME
Press the BASS or TREBLE button.
To adjust the level of low frequency
information, press the BASS button.
To adjust the level of high frequency
information, press the TREBLE button.
Within 5 seconds, turn the VOLUME
knob to change the setting.
The level can be adjusted from –4 to +4.

When the R-2 is used on battery power,
the display is dimmed automatically. If
you press a button or turn a knob, the
display lights up for 20 seconds.
<When you set the sleep timer, the display
is dimmed automatically.
Brightness of the display:
Maximum
• AC adaptor is connected and the unit is
On.
• Used on battery power, and the unit is
On.

Medium
• AC adaptor is connected and the unit is
Standby.
• Used on battery power, and the unit is On
(but idle for more than 20 seconds).
• Sleep timer is on.

• Used on battery power, and the unit is in

<The unit can be programmed to turn on
at a specified time. The unit will turn off
60 minutes after the specified turn on
time.
<The unit can store 2 timer settings into
memory.
<Adjust the clock before setting the timer.
Press and hold the ALARM button (1
or 2) for more than 3 seconds.
“AM12:00” appears and the “ALARM 1”
or “ALARM 2” indicator blinks on the
display.
<If no button is pressed for 20 seconds, the
timer setting mode will be cancelled.

press the same ALARM button you

Turn the MULTI JOG knob to select a
source (TUN: tuner or BUZZ: buzzer),

If you select tuner in step , tune in a
station using the MULTI JOG knob or
the PRESET button, and press the
ALARM button.
You can also use the FUNCTION button to
select FM or AM.

In case ALARM 2 overlaps ALARM 1:
Example:
ALARM 1 (Start time: 7:00, Source: FM)
ALARM 2 (Start time: 7:30, Source: AM)
The unit turns on at 7:00 with FM tuner,
and turns off at 8:00.
ALARM 2 doesn’t work at all.
Set the volume using the MULTI JOG
knob, then press the ALARM button.
You could also leave the unit idle for 10
seconds instead of pressing the ALARM
button.
Setting the timer is now completed and
the timer is turned on.
The ALARM indicator (1 and/or 2) lights
up.
Press the STANDBY/ON switch to turn
the unit off (standby).
Don’t forget to turn the unit off
(standby), or the timer won’t work.

<If the unit is disconnected from the power
supply and the batteries have been
completely discharged for about an hour,
clock and timer settings will be lost.
To check the timer setting
Press the ALARM CHECK button to check
your timer setting.
The settings of ALARM 1 and ALARM 2
will be displayed one by one.
The corresponding ALARM indicator
blinks during checking.
<The ALARM CHECK button will not work
if no setting is stored in memory.
<To exit the checking mode, press the
ALARM CHECK button repeatedly until
the ALARM indicator stops blinking.

Timer 2
Snooze
After the timer has turned on the unit,
press the SNOOZE button.
The SNOOZE indicator will light in the
display and the unit enters STANDBY
mode.
After 10 minutes, the unit will turn on
again.
You can use this function repeatedly for
up to 60 minutes.
<Press the STANDBY/ON button or the
active ALARM button (1 or 2) to stop this
function.
Note that if you press the ALARM button
to stop snoozing, the timer is also turned
off.
To turn the timer on or off
When you don’t use the timer, press the
ALARM button (1 or 2) to turn it off.
The ALARM indicator disappears from the
display.
Press the ALARM button again to turn it
on.
<The ALARM button will not work if no
setting is stored in memory.
If you have problems with your system, look
through this chart and see if you can solve
the problem yourself before calling your
dealer or TEAC service center.
No power
eIf the batteries are discharged, connect
the AC adaptor to recharge the
batteries.
eCheck the connection to the AC power
supply. Check and make sure the AC
source is not a switched outlet and that,
if it is, the switch is turned on. Make
sure there is power to the AC outlet by
plugging another item such as a lamp or
fan into the outlet.
No sound
eTurn the unit on and adjust the volume.
eSelect the source by pressing the
FUNCTION button.
ePull out the headphone’s plug from the
PHONES jack.
The sound is noisy.
eThe unit is too close to a TV set or
similar electronic appliances. Install the
unit further from them, or turn them
off. Also try a different electrical outlet
or use your R-2 on battery power to see
if the noise is coming from your
electrical connection.
Cannot listen to any station, or the
signal is too weak.
eTune in the station properly.
eRotate the unit or antenna for the best
reception.
If normal operation cannot be established,
initialize the unit.

Batteries rechargeables
La R-2 utilise un pack de batteries Nickel Métal
Hydrure contenu dans le compartiment des
batteries.
Laisser l’adaptateur secteur branché à la R-2 et
au secteur, même hors utilisation, assure que
les batteries seront pleinement chargées quand
vous devrez employer la R-2 sur batteries. La R-
2 peut être employée durant 6 à 7 heures après
chargement complet des batteries.
<Quand les batteries sont déchargées et
nécessitent d’être rechargées, l’indicateur
STANDBY/ON clignote. Et le clignotement
s’accélère avec le déchargement des
batteries jusqu’à ce que la R-2 s’éteigne
automatiquement pour protéger les
batteries.
<Quand la R-2 n’est pas employée mais que
l’adaptateur secteur est branché, les
batteries se chargent complètement en
environ 3,5 heures si la décharge est
complète. Durant cette période, l’indicateur
STANDBY/ON s’allume à intervalles réguliers.
<Quand la R-2 est en fonction et que
l’adaptateur secteur est branché, les
batteries se chargent complètement en
environ 24 heures.
<Il peut falloir jusqu’à 4 cycles de charge et
décharge avant que les batteries ne
fonctionnent à pleine capacité quand la R-2
est neuve ou est restée inemployée durant
plusieurs semaines. Il est conseillé de
brancher la R-2 environ 12 heures avant la
première utilisation.
<Une fois la R-2 totalement chargée alors
qu’elle est en veille (STANDBY), ne
débranchez pas et ne rebranchez pas
immédiatement l’adaptateur secteur car cela
relancerait la charge même si les batteries
sont déjà chargées. Faire cela répétitivement
endommagerait les batteries.
<Si la R-2 n’est pas branchée, les batteries
s’auto-déchargeront lentement par mesure
de sécurité.
Remplacement des batteries
Quand les batteries sont épuisées,
remplacez le pack de batteries par un
nouveau pack.
1. Retirez le capot du compartiment des
batteries.
2.Débranchez le connecteur du pack de
batteries, et retirez-le.
3. Insérez un nouveau pack de batteries et
branchez son connecteur.
4. Refermez le capot.
Attention:
Ne chauffez pas et ne démontez pas les
batteries rechargeables et ne jetez jamais
les vieilles batteries dans un feu.

eVérifiez la connexion au secteur.
Contrôlez et assurez-vous que la prise

en a un, qu’elle est en service. Vérifiez
qu’il y a du courant dans la prise en y
branchant un autre appareil comme une
lampe ou un ventilateur.
Pas de son
eAllumez l’appareil et réglez le volume.
eSélectionnez la source en appuyant sur
la touche FUNCTION.
eRetirez la fiche du casque de la prise
CASQUE.
Le son est parasité.
eL’appareil est trop près d’un téléviseur
ou d’un dispositif électronique similaire.
Installez-le plus loin, ou éteignez ces

Réveil 2
Rappel de réveil
Après allumage par le réveil, appuyez sur
la touche SNOOZE.
L’indicateur SNOOZE s’allume dans
l’afficheur et l’appareil passe en veille.
Après 10 minutes, l’appareil se rallume.

fonction durant 60 minutes.

Pilas recargables
El R-2 utiliza una batería de níquel-metal-
hidruro almacenada en el compartimiento de
batería. Dejar el adaptador de CA conectado al
R-2 y enchufado a la línea de CA, aún cuando
no esté en uso, asegura que las pilas se
carguen completamente cuando necesite
utilizar el R-2 con la energía de las pilas. Se

<Puede que tarde hasta 4 ciclos de carga y
descarga antes que las pilas funcionen a su
capacidad total cuando el R-2 es nuevo o
cuando ha quedado sin utilizar por varias
semanas.
Se recomienda enchufar el R-2 por
aproximadamente 12 horas antes de
utilizarlo por la primera vez.
<Una vez que el R-2 se haya cargado
completamente en el modo STANDBY, no
desenchufe y enchufe el adaptador de CA
inmediatamente, ya que esto reiniciará la
carga, aunque las pilas estén
completamente cargadas. Hacer esto
repetidamente dañará las pilas.
<Si el R-2 no está enchufado, las pilas se
descargarán lentamente como una medida
de seguridad.
Reemplazo de las pilas
Cuando las pilas estén agotadas,
reemplace la batería por una nueva.
1.Quite la tapa del compartimiento de la
batería.
2.Desenchufe el conector de la batería, y
quite la batería.
3.Inserte una batería nueva y enchufe su
conector.
4. Cierre la tapa.
Precaución:
No caliente ni desmonte las pilas
recargables, y no eche nunca las pilas
usadas al fuego.

Si la superficie de la unidad se ensucia, límpiela
con un paño blando o utilice una solución
jabonosa líquida suave diluida. Asegúrese de
eliminar completamente cualquier exceso de
líquido. No utilice diluyentes, bencina o alcohol,
ya que estas substancias pueden dañar la
superficie de la unidad. Permita que la
superficie de la unidad se seque
completamente antes de utilizar la unidad.
PRECAUCIÓN
Asegúrese de que este producto no quede
expuesto a goteos o chapoteos de líquidos, y
de que no se coloquen objetos llenados con
líquidos, como jarrones, sobre el producto.
No instale este equipo en un espacio
encerrado como en una estantería u otro

Antena telescópica FM
Extienda completamente la antena
telescópica y posiciónela en la dirección
que proporcione la mejor recepción.
Antena FM
Puede conectar la antena FM tipo
conductor suministrada al terminal. En el
modo FM, sintonice una emisora FM y
extienda el conductor para encontrar la
posición de mejor recepción. Puede que
se requiera reposicionar esta antena si se
desplaza la unidad a un nuevo lugar.
Toma AUX IN
Puede conectar un reproductor de audio
portátil a esta toma.
Conecte la toma LINE OUT o PHONES
(toma de salida de audio) del
reproductor utilizando el cable de clavija
miniatura estéreo suministrado.
Cuando utilice la toma PHONES de su
mini reproductor, debe ajustar el
volumen del mini reproductor o puede
que no oiga ningún sonido de su R-2.
<Ajustar el volumen del mini reproductor
a un nivel muy alto puede causar la
distorsión del sonido del R-2. En este
caso, reduzca el volumen del mini
reproductor hasta que se elimine la
distorsión y, a continuación, ajuste el
volumen del R-2 a un nivel de escucha
confortable.

PHONES
Para una escucha privada, inserte los
auriculares en esta toma, y ajuste el
volumen utilizando el botón VOLUME.
<Puede escuchar en estéreo utilizando los
auriculares cuando esté recibiendo una
emisora FM estéreo.
DC IN
Conecte el adaptador de CA
suministrado a esta toma. Luego,
enchufe el adaptador de CA al
tomacorriente.
<No utilice adaptadores CA diferentes del
modelo incluido con esta unidad para
evitar el fuego, descarga eléctrica, etc.
Asegúrese de conectar el adaptador a
una toma de CA que suministra el
voltaje correcto.
Interruptor de frecuencia
Cuando se gira el botón TUNING, la
frecuencia cambia en pasos
predeterminados.
Utilice este interruptor para seleccionar
el paso apropiado para su área.
10 kHz (EE.UU., Canadá, etc.):
AM: Pasos de 10 kHz
FM: Pasos de 100 kHz
9 kHz (Europa):
AM: Pasos de 9 kHz
FM: Pasos de 50 kHz
Para poner su selección en efecto, debe
inicializar la unidad.

STANDBY/ON por más de 8 segundos
