1) Read Instructions — All the safety and operating instructions should be read
before the product is operated.
2) Retain Instructions — The safety and operating instructions should be
retained for future reference.
3) Heed Warnings — All warnings on the product and in the operating
instructions should be adhered to.
4) Follow Instructions — All operating and use instructions should be followed.
5) Cleaning — Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not
use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
6) Attachments — Do not use attachments not recommended by the product
manufacturer as they may cause hazards.
7) Water and Moisture — Do not use this product near water — for example,
near a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub; in a wet basement; or
near a swimming pool; and the like.
8) Accessories — Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand, tripod,
bracket, or table. The product may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult,
and serious damage to the product. Use only with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket,
or table recommended by the manufacturer, or sold with the product. Any
mounting of the product should follow the manufacturer’s instructions, and
should use a mounting accessory recommended by the manufacturer.
9) A product and cart combination should be moved with care. Quick stops,
excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the
product and cart combination to overturn.
10) Ventilation — Slots and openings in the cabinet are
provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of
the product and to protect it from overheating, and these openings must not be
blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the
product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This product should not be
placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase or rack unless proper
ventilation is provided or the manufacturer’s instructions have been adhered to.
11) Power Sources — This product should be operated only from the type of
power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of
power supply to your home, consult your product dealer or local power
company. For products intended to operate from battery power, or other
sources, refer to the operating instructions.
12) Grounding or Polarization — This product may be equipped with a polarized
alternating-current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This
plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are
unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug
should still fail to fit, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do
not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug.
13) Power-Cord Protection — Power-supply cords should be routed so that they
are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them,
paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the
point where they exit from the product.
14) Outdoor Antenna Grounding — If an outside antenna or cable system is
connected to the product, be sure the antenna or cable system is grounded so
as to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static
charges. Article 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides
information with regard to proper grounding of the mast and supporting
structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of
grounding conductors, location of antenna-discharge unit, connection to
grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode.
Note to CATV system installer:
This reminder is provided to call the CATV system installer’s attention to
Section 820-40 of the NEC which provides guidelines for proper grounding and,
in particular, specifies that the cable ground shall be connected to the
grounding system of the building, as close to the point of cable entry as
practical.”
15) Lightning — For added protection for this product during a lightning storm, or
when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the
wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent
damage to the product due to lightning and power-line surges.
16) Power Lines — An outside antenna system should not be located in the
vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits, or
where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an outside
antenna system, extreme care should be taken to keep from touching such
power lines or circuits as contact with them might be fatal.
17) Overloading — Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or integral
convenience receptacles as this can result in risk of fire or electric shock.
18) Object and Liquid Entry — Never push objects of any kind into this product
through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts
that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the
product.
19) Servicing — Do not attempt to service this product yourself as opening or
removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer
all servicing to qualified service personnel.
20) Damage Requiring Service — Unplug this product from the wall outlet and
refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions:
a ) when the power-supply cord or plug is damaged.
b ) if liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the product.
c ) if the product has been exposed to rain or water.
d ) if the product does not operate normally by following the operating
instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating
instructions as an improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage
and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the
product to its normal operation.
e ) if the product has been dropped or damaged in any way.
f ) when the product exhibits a distinct change in performance _ this indicates a
need for service.
21) Replacement Parts — When replacement parts are required, be sure the
service technician has used replacement parts specified by the manufacturer or
have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions
may result in fire, electric shock, or other hazards.
22) Safety Check — Upon completion of any service or repairs to this product,
ask the service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the
product is in proper operating condition.
23) Wall or Ceiling Mounting — The product should be mounted to a wall or
ceiling only as recommended by the manufacturer.
24) Heat — The product should be situated away from heat sources such as
radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other products (including amplifiers) that
produce heat.

Read This Before Operating
…Choose the installation location of your
unit carefully. Avoid placing it in direct
sunlight or close to a source of heat. Also
avoid locations subject to vibrations and
excessive dust, heat, cold or moisture.
Keep away from sources of hum, such as
transformers or motors.
…Do not open the cabinet as this might
result in damage to the circuitry or
electrical shock. If a foreign object should
get into the set, contact your dealer.
…When removing the power plug from the
wall outlet, always pull directly at the
plug, never yank the cord.
…Do not attempt to clean the unit with
chemical solvents as this might damage
the finish. Use a clean, dry cloth.
…Keep this manual in a safe place for future
reference.

or other published or broadcast
material may infringe copyright laws.
Check before recording.
Memory Backup
The typical period for which the memory can
be backed up while the power cord is
unplugged or the POWER button is set to the
OFF position is about 3 weeks subject to the
surrounding environment. In case of long
hours of power failure or slipping out of the
power cord, the data related to recording and
editing (that is usually recorded at the
moment the Mini Disc is ejected) may be
cleared or destroyed before it is written in the
Mini Disc. Remember that the data lost
cannot be recovered.
After recording or editing, be sure to eject
the Mini Disc so that the recording or editing
data can be written in the disc.

Mémoire interne

ou si le cordon est accidentellement
débranché, les données d’enregistrement et
de montage-son (généralement inscrites au
moment où le mini-disque est éjecté) risquent
d’être perdues avant d’être inscrites sur le
mini-disque. Aucune récupération n’est alors

Handling MDs
Handling of Mini Disc
As the Mini Disc is accommodated inside a
cartridge, it can be handled without caring
about dust or fingerprint. However, stained or
soiled cartridge may cause malfunction. To
protect the disc, take care of the following
points:
…Do not touch the disc inside the cartridge.
Do not open the shutter to expose the MD.
…Do not place MDs in direct sunlight, high
temperatures, or high levels of humidity.
…Use a dry, soft cloth to clean the cartridge.
…When attaching a label to the MD
cartridge, be sure to apply it correctly to
the specified position. If the label is rolled
up or partially detached, the MD cartridge
may get stuck inside the deck. And do not
attach more than one label on the
cartridge.
…The shutter of the disc cartridge is
permanently open while the disc is loaded
in the set. Therefore, to prevent dust from
penetrating inside the disc, take the disc
out of the unit immediately after
completion of recording or playback.
Record-Protect Tab
To protect recorded contents against
accidental erasure, slide the record protect
tab of the disc to open the hole. Return the
tab to the original position when you want to
record signals on the disc.
Beware of condensation
When the player (or a disc) is moved from
a cold to a warm place or used after a
sudden temperature change, there is the
danger of condensation. Water vapor in
the air could condense on the mechanism
or the laser pickup. If droplets of water
form on these parts, correct playback will
be impossible because the laser cannot
read the information from the disc
correctly. To prevent this, if you are going
to use the player in a condition where
condensation could occur, you should
leave the player for 1 or 2 hours after
plugging it into an AC outlet depending on
the amount of condensation. If this is
done, the player will stabilize at the
temperature of its surroundings.
Handling of Mini Disc
Le mini-disque est protégé par une enveloppe
rigide permettant de le manipuler sans
crainte de la poussière ou des empreintes
digitales. Cependant, une cartouche sale ou
souillée peut causer des anomalies de
fonctionnement. Respectez les précautions

…Le volet protecteur reste ouvert quand le
MD est chargé dans l’appareil. Pour éviter
toute contamination, éjectez le MD dès
que vous avez fini d’enregistrer ou
d’écouter.
Interdiction d’enregistrement
Pour protéger vos enregistrements d’un
effacement accidentel, déplacez le curseur
de protection de manière à dégager le trou. Il
suffit de repousser le curseur sur le trou pour
pouvoir à nouveau enregistrer.
Attention à la condensation!
La condensation peut se produire lorsque
l’appareil (ou un disque) est amené d’un
endroit froid à une pièce chaude, ou en
cas d’augmentation brusque de la
température. L’humidité de l’air peut
alors se déposer dans le mécanisme ou
sur le laser de lecture. La présence de
gouttelettes empêche la détection
normale du signal enregistré sur le
disque. Dans de telles conditions, laissez
l’appareil se réchauffer pendant 1 à 2
heures (selon l’importance du
changement de température) après
l’avoir branché. Le risque de
condensation disparaît lorsque l’appareil
est à la température ambiante.

Per proteggere le registrazioni contro la
cancellazione accidentale, far scivolare la
linguetta di protezione per aprire il foro.
Riportare la linguetta sulla posizione originale
quando si vuole registrare di nuovo.
Fare attenzione alla condensazione
Quando l’unità (o il disco) viene spostata
da un ambiente freddo a uno caldo o
viene usata dopo un cambio improvviso di
temperatura esiste il pericolo di
condensazione. Il vapore acqueo nell’aria
potrebbe condensarsi sul meccanismo o
sul lettore a laser. Se si queste parti si
formano goccioline d’acqua l’ascolto
sarà impossibile perché il laser non è in
grado di leggere correttamente le
informazioni sul disco. Per evitarlo se si
deve usare l’unità in condizioni dove si
potrebbe verificare condensazione,
aspettare 1 o 2 ore, a seconda della
quantità di condensazione, dopo aver
inserito la spina nella presa. In questo
modo l’unità si stabilizza alla temperatura
dell’ambiente circostante.

para evitar que entre polvo en el disco,

borrados accidentales, deslice la patilla de
protección contra grabación del disco para
dejar abierto el orificio. Devuelva la patilla a

Cuidado con la condensación
Si el reproductor (o un disco) se traslada
de un lugar frío a otro cálido o se utiliza
después de un cambio de temperatura
repentino, existe riesgo de condensación.
El vapor de agua del ambiente puede
condensarse en el mecanismo o en el
lector de láser. Si se forman gotas de
agua en dichas piezas, será imposible
una reproducción correcta porque el
láser no podrá leer correctamente la
información del disco. Para evitarlo, si va
a utilizar el reproductor en una situación
en la que podría generarse
condensación, después de conectar el
reproductor a una toma de corriente
debería esperar entre una y dos horas, en
función del grado de condensación,
antes de utilizarlo. Si lo hace así, el
reproductor se estabilizará a la
temperatura del entorno.

dafür vorgesehenen Stelle anbringen. Rollt
sich ein Etikett auf oder löst es sich
teilweise ab, kann sich die MD im Gerät
verklemmen. Niemals mehr als ein Etikett
auf dem MD-Gehäuse anbringen.
…Der Schieber am MD-Gehäuse ist immer
offen, solange sich die MD im Gerät
befindet. Um zu verhindern, daß Staub in
die Disc eindringt, diese deshalb
unmittelbar nach der Aufzeichnung oder
dem Abspielen aus dem Gerät
herausnehmen.
Löschschutzlamelle
Verschieben Sie die Löschschutzlamelle so,
daß das Loch offen ist, um den Inhalt der MD
gegen versehentliches Löschen zu sichern.
Um wieder aufnehmen zu können, schieben
Sie die Lamelle zurück.
Vorsicht bei Kondensation
Wird ein Gerät (oder eine MD) von einem
kalten an einen warmen Ort gebracht
oder nach einem unvermittelten
Temperaturwechsel benutzt, besteht die
Gefahr von Kondensation. In der Luft
befindlicher Wasserdampf könnte sich
dann auf dem Mechanismus oder dem
Laser niederschlagen. In diesem Falle ist
eine korrekte Wiedergabe des MD-
Inhalts nicht möglich, da der Laser die
Daten nicht richtig von der Disc ablesen
kann. Um dies zu vermeiden, sollten Sie
das Gerät immer dann, wenn die
Möglichkeit von Kondensation besteht,
über ein bis zwei Stunden (je nach
Kondensationsmenge) nach dem
Einstecken des Netzsteckers
stehenlassen. Damit kann sich das Gerät
an die Temperaturverhältnisse in seiner
Umgebung anpassen.

…Stellen Sie sicher, daß alle Stecker fest
eingesteckt sind. Um Brummen und
Geräusche zu verhindern, dürfen die
Anschlußkabel nicht mit dem Strom- oder
Lautsprecherkabel gebündelt werden.
DIGITAL IN/OUT Buchsen
Schließen Sie über diese Buchsen das Deck
an ein Digitalgerät (z.B. einen CD-Spieler, ein
DAT-Deck, einen Digitalverstärker oder an
ein anderes MD-Deck) an.
…Schließen Sie das Gerät mit den beiden
Optokabeln (nicht mitgeliefert) über die
Buchsen DIGITAL IN/OUT an.
…Wenn Sie die Buchsen für den Anschluß
eines Digitalgeräts benötigen, entfernen
Sie die Schutzkappen. Ansonsten sollten
diese auf den Ausgängen bleiben.

Battery Installation
Remove the battery compartment cover.

If the “PROGRAM” indicator is lit, press the
CHARACTER/P.MODE button of the remote
control unit in the stop mode to turn it off.
Every time the the CHARACTER/P.MODE
button is pressed, the mode changes as
follows:
Track mode
Program mode : PROGRAM lights up.

To start playback directly from a part of a
track;
Early part of track No. 7 (7.2) : 7 0 2
Middle part of track No. 7 (7.5) : 7 0 5
Latter part of track No. 7 (7.8) : 7 0 8
Middle part of current track (.5) : 0 5
…If a track No. which does not exist on the
disc is selected while “READING” is
blinking, the last track on the disc will be
played.

Pour commencer la lecture ailleurs qu’au
début de la piste :
Première moitié de la piste N° 7 (7,2) : 7 0 2
Milieu de la piste N° 7 (7,5) : 7 0 5
Deuxième moitié de la piste N° 7 (7,8) : 7 0 8
Milieu de la piste courante (0,5) : 0 5
…Si vous spécifiez un numéro de piste
inexistant alors que “READING” clignote,
c’est la dernière piste du disque qui est
lue.
