Configuring your host
Note If want to print using Tektronix PhaserPrint 2.0 software, you
must use PhaserPrint to configure your host. Refer to the
PhaserPrint 2.0 User Manual or the instructions provided with
the PhaserPrint CD-ROM for configuration information. If you
do not have PhaserPrint software, refer to the web topic
“Tektronix PhaserPrint software for UNIX and VMS
environments” for more information.
The printer’s internal LPR queue uses the BSD protocol; its known queues
are listed in the following table.
Note Your printer model may not support all the languages listed in the
table. See your printer’s user manual for information on the
languages supported by your printer.
1. Add the printer’s name to the host table and assign an IP address
to the printer’s name. Depending on your host system, you may
use NIS (Name Information Server, formerly Yellow Pages) or, on
a system without NIS, you may have to edit a file (for example,
/etc/hosts ).

language of the print job and processes it accordingly)

2. Assign a print queue to the printer:

For BSD systems, edit the /etc/printcap file and add a spool directory
(for example, to
/usr/spool/lpr ).
■
For System V hosts, configure the queue as a remote BSD print
queue (support for TCP/IP
lpr is required).
Note Some UNIX hosts report an error when you configure a print
queue that is not currently on the network. Ignore this message.
If you need host-specific instructions, see the web topics under “Details on
UNIX host configuration for TCP/IP” for information on how to get them
from the Tektronix Information Server (via Internet) or HAL, the Tektronix
automated fax system.
As you set up a spool queue for the printer, you can use the PostScript
utility files provided on your printer’s drivers and utilities diskettes to
control printer features (for example, selecting upper or lower paper trays,
or selecting print quality modes). You can mount the PC version of the
printer’s drivers and utilities diskettes and copy the files from the diskette
(see the printer’s drivers and utilities manual for information on mounting
the diskette). You can also download the files from the Tektronix Color
Printer Information Server (see the web topic “Downloading files from the
Tektronix Anonymous ftp Server”).
For UNIX environments, Tektronix offers PhaserPrint, software that
provides fast raster printing and a graphical user interface with push-button
control of printer features. For more information on PhaserPrint, see the
web topic “Tektronix PhaserPrint software for UNIX and VMS
environments.”
For VMS environments, Tektronix offers PhaserSym OpenVMS Print
Services, a VMS print symbiont. PhaserSym is available as upgrade kit
