GS2200M SKB TLS
Quick Start Guide
Supports GS2200Mxx Modules
This Quick Start Guide will walk you through the steps to setup the
Starter Kit Board (SKB) and run Temperature and Light (TLS)
application on GS2200M SKB.
You will need the following items:
• GS2200 Starter Kit Board
• Serial Cable (USB to Mini-USB)
• Windows PC
• Wi-Fi Access Point/Network
• Tera Term VT Utility installed on PC
1 Build the Package
2 Program GS2200M SKB
Step 1 Login at https://wifi.telit.com/secure/login, under SDK
Builder tab, select the following build configurations for TLS:
If you do not have a login, sign up and register for a
Portal account at:
https://wifi.telit.com/secure/register
Step 2 Click the Build button to generate the
TLS binaries. The build configuration will be submitted and a confir-
mation email will be sent notifying that the TLS EVK package is
complete and ready to download.
Download and unzip file containing the firmware and binaries used
to program the board to a local folder.
Step 1 Plug the mini-USB cable, one end of the USB port to
GS2200 SKB USB and the other end of the USB port to the com-
puter or laptop.
TLS application illustrates a connected device where the device’s
application firmware runs on a GS2000-based module rather than
on a separate host micro-controller (host-less design). With this
approach, you will develop your device’s firmware using
GainSpan’s Software Development Kit (SDK).
Temperature and Light Sensor (TLS) – For an application firm-
ware that runs on the module (host-less), the TLS application
demonstrates how the GS2200M module can provide both appli-
cation processor and Wi-Fi network connectivity functions for a
connected device.
Step 4 Press and hold down both the PROGRAM and
RESTORE buttons, simultaneously press and release the RESET
button to put the GS2200 SKB into flash programming mode.
Now release the PROGRAM and RESTORE buttons.
Step 5 Launch the GainSpan Serial Flash Programmer GUI
utility from
"\Tools\GS_programming_tool\gs2k_flashprogram.exe".
Step 3 Switch SKB power switch to the ‘ON’ position and
check if the green LED near the switch is illuminated.
Step 6 Select UART, the port assigned to the SKB,
921600 baud.
Step 7 Click Check Connection -if the status reported is Con-
nection OK, proceed else repeat steps 2 through 6
carefully verifying the UART settings are correct and ensure the
button pressing sequence exactly as described.
Step 2 Ensure the Power Measurement Switch SW6 is in the
“ACTIVE” Position.
Step 8 Browse to and select the Super Block file, named
superblock… and select the Current FW Version file name
gs2200…,located at “\Embedded”.”Erase and Program” button and
wait for the programming utility to indicate it has finished
programming.
Note: If this is the first time you’ve connected the board,
it may take Windows a few minutes to install the USB
serial port driver.
The firmware files are located in the folder
“Embedded\evk\tls” for TLS.

3 Configure the Serial Port
Note: To verify you have the correct Serial COM
port, open the Windows Control Panel and
select Device Manager
Open a Serial Terminal Emulation Software of your choice. Select
the serial COM port associated with the board. In this example we
are using Tera Term VT. You can download a copy of Tera Term
VT at: http://ttssh2.sourceforge.jp/
Setup the Serial port as below:
4 Run GS2200M SKB
Step 1 Power cycle the SKB board (press and release the
RESET button with power ON) to start the firmware. LED2 will be lit
AMBER and the terminal will display messages from the
firmware
Step 2 Note of the SSID (Wi-Fi network name) of the SKB listed
in the terminal output, as highlighted below. For example:
“GS_PROV_TLS-9fe77f”.
4a Running TLS Native Application
Step 1 Use the “Play Store” application for the Android device
or “App Store” for iOS device to locate and install the GainSpan TLS
application. Look for “gainspan tls”.

Step 2 Using the settings application on the mobile device, con-
nect to the Wi-Fi network name beginning with
“GS_PROV_TLS-”.
The password is the prefix “GS_” followed by the last six characters
of the network name.
For example, “GS_95e77f”.
Note: The last six digits will be unique to the SKB and the last six
hexadecimal digits printed on the GS2200M module
label incremented by 1.
Step 3 Launch the mobile application and select the only TLS
device listed, which is the SKB.
Step 4 Use the LED control to turn LED1 (green) on the SKB,
ON and OFF.
Step 5 Place your finger on the light sensor on the SKB or flash
a light on it to change the intensity of light bulb image in the Mobile
Application.
Step 6 Using your finger press the temperature sensor on the
SKB to raise the temperature displayed in the Mobile Application.
Step 7 Rotate the mobile device to switch to landscape
display mode to display a chart of sensor readings.
4a Running TLS Web Application
Step 1 Connect the PC to the Wi-Fi network name beginning
with “GS_PROV_TLS-”.
The password is the prefix “GS_” followed by the last six characters
of the network name.
For example, “GS_95e77f”.
Note: The last six digits will be unique to the SKB and the last six
hexadecimal digits printed on the GS2200M module
label incremented by 1.
Step 2 Open the web browser and browse to:
http://192.168.240.1/tls.html.
