 If the EcoCommander HAS been pre-configured, skip to Connect Ethernet Port to EcoCommander WAN
Port
on page 4 and stop after the EcoCommander has booted up. That’s it!
 If the EcoCommander has NOT been pre-configured, follow all steps in this guide, beginning with
Prepare in Advance:

Have these items ready:
□ Laptop Computer
□ Cat5e or Cat6 patch cable
□ USB to RS232 Serial Adapter (for troubleshooting; purchased separately)
□ RS232 to RJ45 console cable (provided with EcoCommander purchase)(PRO version only)
□ Cisco/HP switch console cable (Lite version only)

EcoCommander LAN Configuration
Information required: Enter information here:
LAN IP Address (default) 192.168.3.1
Subnet Mask (default) 255.255.255.0
Notify Telkonet if you do not wish to use the default IP address or subnet mask.
Connect Ethernet Port to EcoCommander WAN Port
Plug CAT5 cable into WAN2 port on EcoCommander server:
Plug the other end into the Ethernet port on your PC or laptop:
Power Up EcoCommander
Power up your EcoCommander by plugging it in to power and turning the On/Off switch (located on the back of
the EcoCommander) to “On”.
Allow EcoCommander time to finish its boot-up process before logging in to the system.

Configure Local Area Connection
Now that your laptop is connected to EcoCommander Server, it’s time to configure your laptop.
Turn WiFi Off
Steps vary by operating system; we recommend Googling “disable WiFi adapter” instructions for your specific
operating system or laptop specification.
Question:
Is it necessary to turn off WiFi in order to check network settings?
Answer:
Is it required? No. BUT we strongly advise you to disable WiFi in order to prevent the system from
trying to route traffic over the wireless network when attempting to log into the Commander. WiFi
does not necessarily NEED to be disabled, as long as the laptop is not connected to a wireless
network.
Open browser.
Enter this address: 169.254.169.254
Enter.
At the Login screen…
Username: admin
Password: use property ID from Telkonet project manager
The LAN Configuration window opens:

Configuration Interface: accept the default of Port #1
Configuration Type: select DHCP or Static from page
Address: if Configuration Type = Static, enter IPv4 Address from page
Netmask: if Configuration Type = Static, enter IPv4 Subnet Mask from page
Gateway: if Configuration Type = Static, enter IPv4 Default Gateway from page
Click Save.
Verify setup is successful:
Open a new browser window.
Enter the IP address.
If the Telkonet EcoCommander Login screen appears…
…your setup has been successful.
Future Troubleshooting
FYI, if at some point you are troubleshooting a problem and your Telkonet representative instructs you to
navigate to the Status Information Screen, click Status on the left menu tree.
The Status Information window will appear:
There should be green check marks next to WAN Reachable and DNS Resolves.
If there are not two green check marks, your Telkonet representative will instruct you on your next steps.
