EPILFLASH
A TENY innovation. The first depilatory to emit a flash of light to gently destroy hair roots for good.
A unique version of a professional salon technique adapted for personal use.
Ergonomic, light and very small, it is equipped with highly-developed micro-processor technology, which, the results
of lengthy research show, permanently stops hair growth.
Thank you for the trust you have placed in a RENCH BRAND by choosing TENY, the performance of
which will ensure a great satisfaction and deliver a lasting service.
To get the most out of your appliance, please read carefully the usage advice included in these
instructions for use, and follow the recommendations given.
HOW IT WORKS:
To understand how the depilatory works, it is first necessary to understand the hair’s growth process, and the
principle of pulsed light.
Hair grows in a pocket in the skin, called a follicle, and it develops over a three-phase cycle, the length of which
varies from person to person and between different areas of the body:
• anagen phase (growth): the root of the hair (the bulb) is nourished by a dermal papilla containing living
cells, the hair is at this stage connected to the bulb
• catagen phase (rest): while developing, the hair creates new cells which replace those which
age and become separated from their papilla, the hair being now detached from the bulb
• te l o g e n p h a se (transition ) : t h e h a i r, being no lo nger nourished, we a k e ns and falls out
when a new c ycle begin s.
The principle of depilation by the action of light consists of using a high-energy light source, to cause the
destruction, by heat, of the hair follicle.
The light rays emitted by the lamp are captured in the hair shaft and conducted down to the root and then
selectively absorbed by the melanin, the pigment which gives the hair its colour.
The rapid absorption of light causes a major increase in temperature inside the follicle. This heat reaches the
root, destroys the bulb, but also damages the germinating cell reservoir and irrevocably destroys the hair, with no
risk to the skin.
EPIL LASH is a pulsed light depilatory designed to act, in complete safety, specifically on hair bulbs.
By positioning the head on the area to be depilated, the light pulses produced will target only the melanin,
reaching the hair follicle and the cell reservoir where hair is regenerated.
The transformation of light into heat is selectively targeted, and the safety system optimises the aim by adjusting
automatically to different parameters. This process destroys the root with no risk to the skin, and the hair ceases to
grow.
Programming allows personalised treatment, taking different skin and hair types into account.
Hair growth is not in phase in any one area at the same time. or best, lasting results, depilation should treat hairs
during their active phase, which means sessions are required at regular intervals.
DESCRIPTION:
The swivelling head allows comfortable and accurate use.
The pulsed light is diffused through an exposure window, which covers a skin surface of 3 cm
2
.
The automatic one-touch firing ensures a quick operation.
The safety of the firing mechanism is ensured by two electrodes which detect the gel on the skin, and two window
pressure contacts.

be re-entered.
SKIN TYPE LIGHT: (individual adjustment) *see diagram page 2
With two colours, light 1 indicates skin type:
• green light : pale skin
• red light : olive skin.
HAIR TYPE LIGHT: (individual adjustment) *see diagram page 2
With two colours, light 2 indicates hair type:
• green light : fine, medium or fair hair
• red light : thick or dark hair.
TRIGGER SAFETY LIGHT: *see diagram page 2
Blue light 3 indicates that the appliance is ready to function if the gel has been applied to the skin and the head is
fully pressed onto the treatment area.
If so, the flash is ready for firing.
LAMP SAFETY LIGHT: *see diagram page 2
Green light 4 indicates that the power supply to the lamp is correct.
If so, the flash is ready for firing.
TRIGGER:
This allows the light flash to be fired with each push. If the trigger is held down the flash fires every five seconds, a
maximum of three times.
Each push of th e tr igger is accompanied by a beep.

PREPARING FOR DEPILATION:
Depilation by pulsed light requires no special skin preparation. Skin should be unbroken, unblemished, free from
burns, and absolutely clean, with all traces of lotion, cream or oil removed.
Shave closely, with a manual razor only, to achieve the best deep penetration of the light.
Mark out the treatment area, with a soft pencil (e.g. a make-up pencil).
It is then essential to apply the contact gel onto the treatment area, so that the light can be picked up and
channelled, and in order that the skin is well chilled.
To avoid the gel drying too quickly, it is best to cover the area several times, depending on the movement of the
appliance, and to spread it evenly in light, circular movements.
The supplied safety glasses must be worn to protect you from the light emitted during treatment.
PROGRAMMING OF PARAMETERS:
The areas treated with this appliance are as follows:
• for women: underrarms, arms, bikini line and legs
• for men: underrarms, back, chest, arms and legs
or reasons of eye safety, you are recommended not to treat your upper lip or chin yourself.
It is best to ask a friend or family member, who should also be protected by glasses, and will be able to fire the flash
with greater accuracy and safety.
To check that your skin does not react adversely to exposure to the light, it is advisable to carry out an area test
several hours before carrying out the complete depilation.
Carrying out personalised programming of parameters, regarding skin and hair type, to obtain best results.
This programming is recorded anew every time the appliance is used.
To define your skin type, determine how it reacts to the sun:
• pale skin, which tans lightly and burns easily
• olive skin, which tans easily and rarely burns.
To define your hair type, determine its characteristics:
• fine, medium or fair hair, as a rule on the arms and legs
• thick or dark hair, as a rule underarms and the bikini line.
Pulsed light depilation is ineffective on white hair.
USE:
This appliance has many programmed functions which ensure complete safety and ease of handling:
• the light flash is only diffused if the gel has been applied to the skin and if the head is pressed well onto the
area
• if the trigger is activated when the safety mechanism is deactivated, the appliance will not work and eight
beeps will be emitted
• the appliance will stop if it is not used for three minutes
• in the event of any technical malfunction of the appliance, it will stop immediately and light 4 will remain lit
Start the appliance by keying in the 4-digit code using buttons 2 and 3: code = 3 - 2 -2 – 3.
ive beeps will sound and one second later, verification of all the control parameters will be carried out.
Lights 1 and 2 light orange for two seconds, then the appliance goes onto standby. Light 4 lights green.
Programme skin ype wi h bu on 1.
Light 1 lights in the corresponding colour.
Programme hair ype wi h bu on 2.
Light 2 lights in the corresponding colour.
Position the head in the area to be depilated then press onto the skin to deactivate the safety mechanism. Ligh 3
ligh s blue.
Press the trigger to fire the light flash.
Light 4 goes out then relights, after the flash is extinguished.
If the trigger remains activated, a second flash will be emitted automatically, four seconds after the first shot.

There is no need to carry out more than three successive flashes in the same place.
Then continue the depilation by moving the appliance steadily and with care over all exposed surfaces so as to
treat the entire area.
When the session is finished, switch off the appliance by holding down button 3.
The appliance emits four beeps then switches off automatically.
FREQUENCY OF SESSIONS:
Hair is only affected by the pulsed light in its growing phase and, as the hair develops in cycles, it is therefore
necessary to establish a schedule of sessions taking into account the hair cycle, the hair density and the colour of
the hair in the area concerned.
The table below indicates, by area, the density of hairs in cm
2
, the percentage of hairs in the growth
phase and the total length of the cycle:

A series of treatments spread out within this time will allow the destruction, in their growth phase, of all the hairs in
one area. Thick and fair hairs take longer to treat.
In general, 6 to 12 sessions are necessary to achieve complete and effective long-term depilation.
The initial three sessions are carried out at regular intervals of around 4 – 6 weeks and then, according to growth,
approximately every 2 months throughout the duration of the hair cycle.
Beyond this period, sessions should be repeated at a rate of 1 to 2 per year, when the follicles enter a new initial
growth cycle.
NOTES:
The technique causes no side effects and the sensation experienced is practically painless.
Use should be comfortable and never painful.
A little redness or swelling may appear on sensitive skin, but it should rapidly disappear, within a few hours
depending on the sensitivity of the area.
Between sessions, it is important not to epilate with wax, cream or an epilator. It is imperative that hairs are shaved
or cut with scissors.
Throughout the duration of treatment, the majority of roots are damaged, the number of hairs diminishes and remaining
atrophied hairs become finer and lighter.
The results are lasting, but do not preclude possible growth linked to age or hormonal changes.
PRECAUTIONS:

The depilatory must always be unplugged when not in use.
Allow the appliance to cool before putting it away.
