This instruction manual contains important instructions and precautions that must be observed to
ensure the trouble-free installation and efficient functioning of your boiler.

PRECAUTIONS
GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION
a Do not allow children or
infirm persons to operate
the boiler unsupervised.
a Do not operate any electrical
devices or equipment, includ-
ing switches or domestic appli-
ances, etc., if you can smell fuel or
fumes. If you detect any suspicious smells:
- Ventilate the room by opening all doors and win-
dows.
- Close the fuel shut-off cock.
- Report the fault immediately to THERMITAL’s
Technical Assistance Service or a professionally
qualified heating engineer.
a Never clean or service the boiler without first discon-
necting it from the mains electricity supply by turning
the main power switch OFF.
a Never pull, disconnect, or twist the electrical cables
coming from the boiler even if it is disconnected
from the mains electricity supply at the time.
a Do no obstruct or restrict the vents in the room
where the boiler is installed. Adequate ventilation is
essential for correct combustion.
a Do not store containers of flammable substances in
the room where the boiler is installed.
a Do not touch the boiler when
barefoot or wet.
a Do not switch the boiler off
if outside temperature drops
below ZERO (risk of freez-
ing).
b This instruction manual and that for the installer
and Technical Assistance Service are integral parts
of the boiler. They must be kept safe and must
ALWAYS accompany the boiler, even if it is sold
to another owner or user or transferred to anoth-
er installation. If you damage or lose this manual,
order a replacement immediately from your local
THERMITAL Technical Assistance Centre.
b This boiler must be installed by a
legally qualified heating engi-
neer (in Italy heating engi-
neers are regulated by law 46
of the 5th March 1990.) On
completion of the installation,
the heating engineer must
issue the owner with a decla-
ration of conformity confirming
that the installation has been com-
pleted to the highest standards in compliance with the
instructions provided by THERMITAL in this instruc-
tion manual, and that it conforms to all applicable laws
and standards.
b If you notice any water leaking from the boiler, dis-
connect it immediately from the mains electricity
supply, shut off the water supply, and notify your
local THERMITAL Technical Assistance Centre or a
qualified heating engineer immediately.
b Periodically check that oper-
ating pressure in the water
circuit is over 1 bar. If water
pressure is consistently
low, contact THERMITAL’s
Technical Assistance Service
or a professionally qualified
heating engineer.
b If the boiler is not going to be used for an extended
period of time, proceed as follows to prepare it for
shutdown.
- Turn the mains power switch OFF.
- Close the boiler’s fuel cock and water cock.
- Drain the central heating circuit if there is any risk
of freezing.
b The boiler must only be used for the purpose spec-
ified by THERMITAL and for which it is designed.
The manufacturer declines all responsibility, con-
tractual or other, for damage to property or injury to
persons or animals caused by improper installation,
adjustment, maintenance or use.
The operation of any appliance that uses fuel, electrical power and water demands that a number of fundamental safe-
ty precautions be respected.

1 Storage cylinder temperature gauge
Displays domestic hot water temperature.

The temperature of the domestic hot water is preset to 44°C in the factory.
The thermostatic mixer valve has to be adjusted to change this value (see page 9).

When lit, shows that a flame is being detected.

Displays information on boiler status.

When lit, shows that an error (alarm) condition has been detected.

Function selector
No function selected / Stand-by. (The display
shows that the system is switched on but in
stand-by mode)
Current system configuration
- The display shows a diagram of the currently
selected system configuration.
- Turn the parameter selector clockwise to display
the various sensors and actuators in the select-
ed system configuration along with their names
(e.g. F1, F2, A1). Turn the parameter selector
anti-clockwise to display current statuses and
temperatures.
Collector/storage cylinder temperature sensor
- The display reads out the temperature currently
measured by temperature sensor F1 in the solar
collector. In some system configurations, the
temperature measured by the storage cylinder
temperature sensor is shown instead.
- The trend in temperatures measured by the sen-
sor over the last few hours is also shown.
Supplementary temperature sensor
- The display reads out the temperature currently
measured by temperature sensor F2.
- The trend in temperatures measured by the sen-
sor over the last few hours is also shown.
- If temperature sensor F2 is not installed, the
display reads out the message “Not connected”.
Storage cylinder top temperature sensor
- The display reads out the temperature currently
measured by storage cylinder top temperature
sensor F3.
- The trend in temperatures measured by the sen-
sor over the last few hours is also shown.
- If temperature sensor F3 is not installed, the
display reads out the message “Not connected”.
Storage cylinder bottom temperature sensor
- The display reads out the temperature currently
measured by storage cylinder bottom tempera-
ture sensor F4.
- The trend in temperatures measured by the sen-
sor over the last few hours is also shown.
Daily, weekly, monthly or total energy output
- The display reads out the energy produced by
the solar collector/s.
- The display switches automatically between Wh,
kWh and MWh.
User settings
- The display shows the settings the user can
change to adapt the system to his own personal
needs.
Installer settings
- The display shows the setting menus the installer
can use to put the solar controller into service. A
password is required to access these settings.

Once you have completed all the checks listed above,
proceed as follows to start up the boiler for the first time.
- Turn the mains power switch ON.
- Turn the boiler function selector to Summer "Ç" or
Winter "Ö", depending on which functioning mode you
require.
b Every time electrical power is switched on, the boil-
er performs an automatic venting cycle that lasts
about 2 minutes. Two dashes flash on the display
in an alternating manner during automatic venting.
To interrupt automatic venting, remove the central
knob and press the combustion analysis button (C).

START-UP
Have THERMITAL’s Technical Assistance Service start-up your boiler for the first time. Once this has been done, the
boiler can be left to function automatically. Under certain circumstances, such as after long periods of disuse, the user
may need to re-start it without involving the THERMITAL’s Technical Assistance Service. Before doing so, perform the
following checks and operations.

SUMMER (Ç): With the function selector set to Summer,
the boiler functions only in domestic hot water mode. The
temperature gauge (1) shows the temperature of the hot
water inside the storage cylinder.
b To ensure correct functioning, set the room temper-
ature thermostat to its minimum setting.
WINTER (Ö): With the function selector set to Winter, the
boiler functions in central heating and domestic hot water
modes. The display shows the temperature of the central
heating flow.
- Set the room thermostat to the required temperature (~
20°C) or, if the system has a timer or timer-thermostat,
make sure that this is switched “On” and adjusted to the
required temperature (~ 20°C).

SETTING CENTRAL HEATING WATER TEMPERATURE
USING THE OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR
Since an outdoor temperature sensor is installed, the sys-
tem automatically adjusts the temperature of the central
heating flow to bring room temperature rapidly to a level
determined on the basis of outdoor air temperature. To
adjust room temperature manually with respect to the
automatic setting calculated by the control card, turn the
heating temperature selector "Ñ" clockwise to increase
temperature or anti-clockwise to reduce it. The available
adjustment range is between -5 and +5 comfort levels as
shown on the digital display when the knob is turned (see
the “AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL” section).

SETTING DOMESTIC HOT WATER TEMPERATURE
Domestic hot water temperature is preset to 44°C in the
factory.
Adjust the thermostatic mixer valve to change this value.
The following table shows the hot water temperature val-
ues for the different mixer valve knob positions.
Reference conditions:
Hot water temperature = 68°C
Cold water temperature = 13°C
Hot and cold water inlet pressure = 3 bar

Once you have set the required domestic hot water tem-
perature, you can lock the adjustment knob of the mixer
valve to prevent further tampering.
To do so, unscrew the fixing screw from the top of the
knob and pull off the knob. Fit the knob again so that the
keyway in the knob's body engages with the key in the
valve cap.

The first time you switch on the boiler, you will need to set
time and day. To do so, proceed as follows.
- Turn the function selector (3) to " "
- Turn the parameter selector (4) until the "Clock" menu
appears.
- Press the confirm key (2).
- Turn the parameter selector (4) to set the desired time.
- Press the confirm key (2) to confirm.
- Repeat the above steps to set the date Repeat the
above steps to set the date.
-Turn the function selector (3) to " "
b You can exit programming mode at any time sim-
ply by turning the function selector (3). If you exit
programming mode in this way, any changes made
but not confirmed (by pressing the confirm key) will
be lost.
STARTING UP THE BOILER
If a timer or room thermostat is installed, these must be
switched on and adjusted to a temperature higher than
current room temperature before the boiler can start up.
The boiler will remain in stand-by mode until the burner
ignites following a request for heat. The green LED (4) on
the left of the control panel lights to show that a flame is
being detected.
The boiler will carry on functioning until the set temper-
atures are reached, when it will return to stand-by mode
while continuing to display the central heating flow tem-
perature.
If any ignition or functioning errors occur, the boiler per-
forms a “SAFETY SHUTDOWN”. The green LED on the
control panel goes out and an error code flashes on the
display. The red LED (6) indicates a burner lock-out. See
the “WARNING LEDS AND ERRORS” section for details
on the various error codes and how to reset the boiler.

RESET FUNCTION
To reset the boiler, turn the function selector to “É”, then
return it to its previous position and check that the red LED
goes out. Provided correct functioning conditions have
been restored, the boiler restarts automatically. As soon
as the burner ignites the green LED lights and the digital
display will read out current operating temperature.
b Turning the function selector to “É” without return-
ing it to “Ö” or “Ç” will not reset the boiler.
If the boiler does not restart after a number of resets, call
your local Technical Assistance Centre. Under normal
conditions, when the function selector is turned to “É”,
the digital display reads out “- -” unless the frost protec-
tion function (AF) is active, or combustion analysis (CO)
in being performed.
If you are going away for a short period of time like a
weekend or a short holiday, etc., turn the function selector
to “É” OFF/RESET.
The digital display reads out the message shown along-
side.
Because electrical power and the gas supply to the boiler
both remain on, the boiler is protected by the following
systems:
-Frost protection:
Central heating
This function is activated if the temperature read by the
central heating flow temperature sensor falls below 6°C.
Under these conditions a heat request is generated,
igniting the burner at minimum power and keeping it on
until the temperature of the central heating flow water
reaches 35°C.
b The message AF flashes on the display for as long
as the frost protection function remains active.
-Pump anti-block function: The pump is switched on
for 30 seconds every 24 hours.

If the boiler is not going to be used for an extended peri-
od of time, proceed as follows to prepare it for shutdown.
- Turn the function selector to OFF/RESET.
- Turn the mains power switch OFF.
- Close the fuel shut-off cock and the central heating and
DHW circuit shut-off cocks.
Note that the frost protection and pump anti-block func-
tions are not active under these conditions. Drain the
central heating circuit and domestic hot water circuit if
there is any risk of freezing.
THE MAIN CONTROL PANEL
Green LED (4)
Off = boiler in stand-by, burner out
On = burning lit, boiler functioning normally.
Red LED (6)
Safety shutdown: an error code flashes on the display.
Burner lockout: the red LED lights and an error code
flashes on the display.
No error code is shown in OFF/RESET mode (É). To
visualise any system errors, turn the function selector to
"Ç" or "Ö". Error codes are displayed normally in combus-
tion analysis and frost protection modes.
To restore normal functioning, turn the function selector
to “É” (OFF/RESET) then return it to its previous position:
Summer "Ç", or Winter "Ö".
If the boiler does not restart after a number of resets, call
your local Technical Assistance Centre.

Dealing with error AL41
Check the pressure on the control panel pressure gauge.
If it is below 0.5 bar, proceed as follows.
- Turn the function selector to “É”
- Remove the top front panel from the boiler by pulling it
forwards.
- Slowly refill the system, opening the fill cock (2) until the
pressure gauge reads between 1 and 1.2 bar.
- Fit the top panel back on the boiler.
- Return the function selector to its previous position
(Summer "}", or Winter "Ö").
If the system loses pressure frequently, call Technical
Assistance.

Use a cloth damped in soapy water to clean the boil-
er’s external panelling. To remove stubborn marks, use
a cloth damped in a 50% mix of water and denatured
alcohol or a suitable cleaning product. Wipe the boiler
dry after cleaning it.
b The combustion chamber and flues must be cleaned
periodically by THERMITAL’s Technical Assistance
Service or by a qualified heating engineer.
a Do not use abrasive products, petrol or triethylene.
a Never clean or service the boiler without first dis-
connecting it from the mains electricity supply by
turning the main power switch OFF.
In Italy, Presidential Decree n° 412 of the 26th August
1993 requires that THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE
FOR SYSTEM MANAGEMENT MUST ENSURE THAT
PROFESSIONALLY QUALIFIED HEATING ENGINEERS
UNDERTAKE PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND
COMBUSTION EFFICIENCY MEASUREMENTS.

useful information on MAINTENANCE PROGRAMMES
