A. CONTROLS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS
1.
EJECTION BUTTON (EJECT)
On pushing this button, the cassette lid will be released
to open for insertion or removal of a cassette tape.
2.
STOP BUTTON (STOP)
On pushing this button, the tape movement stops and
the power is turned off.
3.
PLAYBACK BUTTON (PLAY)
On pushing this button, a recorded tape can be played
back.
4.
FAST FORWARD BUTTON (FF)
On pushing this button, the tape can be rapidly
forewarded to the left reel in the cassette.
5.
REWIND BUTTON (REW)
On pushing this button, the tape will be rapidly
rewound to the right reel in the cassette.
When the tape travels to the end, the "STOP" button
must be pushed to release this button.
6.
RECORD BUTTON (RECORD)
If this button is depressed while pushing down the play
back button, a recording can be made.
7.
TAPE-RADIO-SLEEP FUNCTION SELECTOR
Slide the switch to the "TAPE" position for cassette
playback or recording from the built-in condensor
microphone or an external signal source.
Slide the switch to the "RADIO" position for radio
reception or recording from a radio programme.
Slide the switch to the "SLEEP" position for operating
the radio by running a tape.
When the tape reaches its end, the power as well as the
radio are automatically turned off.

For adjusting the volume level during tape playback or
radio reception.

FM ROD ANTENNA
For FM broadcast reception.

TUNING CONTROL
For tuning to a desired broadcast programme.

5 PIN DIN JACK
Used for recording a DIN Microphone signal or an
external signal from a Din plug. (At pin 1 and 4). The
signal from playback of a tape or radio reception can
be taken out from the unit through pins 3 and 5.

EARPHONE JACK (E.P.) OR EXTERNAL SPEAKER
JACK
For connection of an earphone or an external speaker.

MONITOR SWITCH
During recording of the radio, the recorded programme
can be heard when the monitor switch is at the 'ON'
position 1 or 2. For built-in microphone recording,
the monitor switch should be at the 'OFF' position.

B. POWER SOURCE
This unit can be conveniently used with either its
internal batteries or ordinary 240V household current
as the power source. When household current is used
as the power source the internal batteries are auto-
matically disconnected thus prolonging their life.

TO USE HOUSEHOLD CURRENT (AC) 240V
Insert one end of the AC cord which is normally
included with the unit into the AC socket and plug
the other end into the supply outlet.
When the batteries inside the unit are used, be sure
to remove the AC cord from the AC socket of the unit.
C. TO LISTEN TO THE RADIO
Set the AM/FM band with the AM/FM selector switch.
With the volume control in the middle position, rotate
the tuning control knob until you tune the desired
station.
Adjust the volume control for the preferred listening
level. When an AM broadcast is being received, the
sensitivity may sometimes change slightly depending
upon the direction in which the unit is facing.
Rotate the unit for the most suitable position.
For FM broadcasts extend the rod antenna in the
direction which results in the best reception.
D. INSERTION AND REMOVAL OF A CAS-
SETTE
The cassette door can be.opened and closed only if the
play button is not depressed. To release the play
button if necessary, press the stop key.

INSERTING
Press the eject button. The cassette door will now
spring open. The cassette should be inserted into the
cassette door with the cassette opening facing upwards.
Close the cassette door until the door locks in position.

REMOVING
Press the eject button, the cassette door will now
spring open and the cassette can be removed.
E. PLAYBACK
Insert the recorded cassette and press down the play
button. Adjust the volume control for the desired
listening level and tone quality.

AUTOMATIC STOP
When the tape comes to an end during playback (or
recording), the tape travel stops automatically, and
the playback (and recording) buttons return to their
original position.
F. FAST FORWARD AND REWIND
* FAST FORWARD
While the fast forward button (FF) is pushed down,
the tape will be rapidly wound onto the left reel.

REWIND
If the rewind button (REWIND) is pushed down the
tape will be rewound rapidly onto the right reel.
When the tape reaches the desired position or reaches
the end push down the (STOP) button to stop the
tape.
G. RECORDING

RECORDING WITH THE BUILT-IN MICROPHONE
Set the selector knob to the (TAPE) position.
Slide the monitor switch: to the 'OFF' position and
press down the playback and record button at the
same time, recording starts.
Note:
1.
For this unit, the playback button must be pushed
while the record button is depressed.
2.
If the 'Knock Out' tab of the cassette is broken
out. The record button cannot be pushed and,
therefore a recording cannot be accomplished.
3 A recording can be made on a recorded tape by
placing adhesive tape over the tab below hole.
4.
This set has been designed with automatic level.
control (ALC). Therefore during recording no
level adjustment is required.
If
a recording is to be made through the built-in
microphone DO NOT connect anything to the
microphone jack or the auxiliary input jack,

HOW TO RECORD A RADIO BROADCAST
Set to AM/FM by the band selector switch and rotate
the tuning control knob to the station desired, press
down the playback and the record buttons. Recording
starts.
To listen to the radio while recording from it, slide
the monitor switch to the 'ON' position. The sound
can be cut off by sliding the monitor switch to the
'OFF' position.

SLEEP FUNCTION
The power supply for the radio operation can be
controlled by running a cassette tape. This feature
can act as a sleep function controlling the period of
radio operation after the cassette tape has been
inserted by depressing the 'PLAY' key, When the
tape reaches the end, the auto-stop function will cut
off the power supply and hence stop the radio
operation.
The desired period of time can also be selected by the
amount of tape remaining to be used on the reel.

1.
Slide the function switch to the 'SLEEP' position.
2.
Insert a cassette tape to the desired length.
3.
Push the playback button (or the recording and
playback button).

When the tape comes to an end, it stops the automatic-
stop mechanism. The playback button (or the playback
and recording buttons) return to their original
positions and the power is turned off.
H. PRECAUTIONS AND MAINTENANCE
1.
Avoid placing this unit near sources of high
temperature or in direct sunlight for a long period,
to do so may result in damage to the cabinet or
changes of the component characteristics; and
cause a decrease in performance.
2.
If the unit is not to be used for an extended period
(one month or more) or the unit is used only
from AC power, remove the batteries in order to
prevent leakage.
3.
Be sure to push the stop button before inserting
or removing a cassette.
4.
Since the heads and capstan are in constant
contact with the moving tape, and dirt or dust
adheres to them, poor sound quality, distortion
of fluctuation will result. Use a small cotton bud
cleaning stick with alcohol to clean the tape head
carefully.
