These RIGGING INSTRUCTIONS have been compiled to
help you to rig your Topaz UNO RACE PLUS/X sailing
dinghy. Please also ensure that you refer to your TOPAZ
OWNERS MANUAL.
The OWNERS MANUAL has been compiled to help you to
operate your craft with safety and enjoyment. It contains
details of the craft, the equipment supplied or tted, it’s
systems and information on its operation and maintenance.
Please read it carefully and familiarise yourself with the craft
before using it.
If this is your rst craft, or you are changing to a type of craft
you are not familiar with, for your own comfort and safety,
please ensure that you obtain handling and operating
experience before assuming command of the craft. Your
dealer or national sailing federation or yacht club will be
pleased to advise you of local sea schools, or competent
instructors.
PLEASE KEEP THE RIGGING INSTRUCTIONS AND THE OWNERS
MANUAL IN A SECURE PLACE AND HAND THEM OVER TO THE
NEW OWNER WHEN YOU SELL THE CRAFT.

The TOPAZ UNO RACE PLUS & RACE X are designed to require very little maintenance, but there are
some simple ways to keep your boat in the best condition.
Rudder
Never launch your boat without checking that the retaining clip has clicked into place beneath
the upper transom tting, as this will prevent the rudder from falling o.
Sails
After you have nished sailing, roll the mainsail loosely, this will extend its life better than folding.
Always rinse the sails and the boat after sailing in salt water.
Foils
Make sure that the rudder blade remains tight between the stock when down.
Any movement between the blade and the stock, or the stock and the hull may cause steering problems.
Hull and ttings
Small dents can be repaired by gently warming the hull with a hot air blower (take care not to melt
the hull). For any more substantial repairs refer to Topper Sailboats.
Check the attachment of all ttings regularly. This is particularly important for the ttings
that are screwed onto xings that are set in the hull. Keep all blocks, cleats and ropes clean
and rinse them after salt water exposure.
Always remove the bung to empty any water after sailing, and when not sailing leave the bung out
to prevent the buildup of pressure within the hull as the temperature uctuates.
Ropes
Always replace any ropes that are showing any signs of wear immediately.

rigging the mast & mainsail
Pass a loop of the halyard through the eyelet at the top of
the sail. Pass the red ball through the loop and pull it tight to
secure it.

The Topaz Race R2 has a tracked mast with a halyard as
standard. Insert the upper mast into the lower mast so that
the track lines up. Then pass the red halyard through the top
of the mast from the back (with the track) to the front
as shown.
Secure the end of the halyard in the cleat at the bottom of
the mast on the front side.

Place the head (top) of the sail in the mast track and pull the
free end of the halyard to raise the sail. Once the sail is at the
top of the mast, the halyard can be coiled and placed in the
velcro pocket near the tack of the sail.

Attach the downhaul by tying an overhand knot in one end
and passing the other end through the hole in the top of the
cleat on the mast.
Pass the end through the metal ring on the sail, and then
through the same cleat to secure it.

rigging the asymmetric spinnaker
If you intend to use the asymmetric spinnaker, please attach
the shrouds and spinnaker halyard pulley to the upper of the
two ttings on the front of the mast.
Begin this rigging with the mast down as the halyard will
need to be attached to it.
Attach the tack of the spinnaker to the bowsprit. This is
done in a similar fashion to the head of the mainsail, by
pushing a loop of rope through the eyelet and then putting
the red ball through the loop.
Tie one end of the halyard to the head of the spinnaker using
a bowline knot.

Pass the other end of the halyard through the pulley on the
upper tting on the mast.
Then put the mast in the mast gate and raise it as normal.
Pass the end of the spinnaker halyard through this pulley at
the base of the mast.

Pass the halyard through this pulley, found underneath the
spinnaker bag at the bow. Then pass the halyard back
underneath the bag towards the stern.

Pass the halyard through this pulley in the middle of the
deck, from front to back (in the direction shown).
Pass the halyard up the spinnaker bag until it comes out of
the front opening.
Tip: tying one of the red balls to the end of the halyard can make
it easier to feel through the fabric and push through to the bow
opening.

Pass the halyard through the pulley on the starboard side of
the deck and then through the eyelet on the back of the
spinnaker bag.
