•Theownerisresponsiblefortrainingalloperators
andmechanics.Operatorsofthemachine
shouldcompleteanoperator'strainingprogram
regardlessofpreviousexperienceoperating
vehicles.
•Theoperator'strainingprogramshouldincludethe
Operator'sManualandemphasizethesafetyof
theoperator,passengers,andbystanders;general
safetyrules;anoverviewoftheequipment,
controls,andfunctions,andhowtheyworkwhen
usedproperlyandimproperly;surfaceconditions,
slope,andotherconditionsthatcouldaffectthe
operationofthemachine;andanevaluationof
operatorcompetency.
•Becomefamiliarwiththesafeoperationofthe
equipment,operatorcontrols,andsafetysigns.
•Shutoffthemachine,engagetheparkingbrake,

•Beforefuelingthemachine,shutofftheengineand
allowittocool.Havetheoperatorandpassengers
leavethemachinebeforefuelingit.
•Ifyouspillfuel,donotattempttostarttheengine;
avoidcreatinganysourceofignitionuntilthefuel
vaporshavedissipated.
•Theownerisresponsibleforstoringandhandling
liqueedfuelsinaccordancewithANSI/NFPA
30.Storeandhandlefuelinaccordancewith
ANSI/NFPA505andANSI/NFPA30orasrequired
bylocalordinances.
•Containfuelspillsimmediatelyandaccordingto
theappropriateregulations.
•Ventilatemaintenanceandstorageareas
accordingtolocalrecodesandordinancesto
avoidarehazard.
•Preventreandanexplosioncausedbystatic
electricdischarge.Useonlynon-metal,portable
fuelcontainersapprovedbytheUnderwriter's
Laboratory(UL)ortheAmericanSocietyfor
TestingandMaterials(ASTM).Useonlyafunnel
thatisplasticandhasnoscreenorlter.Store

•Staticelectricdischargecanignitegasolinevapors
inanungroundedfuelcontainer.Removethe
fuelcontainerfromthemachineandplaceiton
theground,awayfromthemachinebeforelling.
Keepthenozzleincontactwithcontaineropening
whilelling.Whenpractical,removeequipment
fromtrailersortruckbedsandrefuelthemonthe
ground.Ifthisisnotpossible,useaportable,
plasticfuelcontainertorefuelequipmentona
truckbedortrailer.
•Donotuseopenamesforcheckingtheelectrolyte
levelinthebatteryorthefuellevelinthetank.
•Donotoperatethemachinewithaleakinthefuel
system.

possible,orcloseofftheareaandpostawarning
topreventothersfromoperatingthemachineon
thoseareas.
•Operatingthemachineathighspeedandthen
quicklystoppingmaycausetherearwheelstolock
up,whichimpairsyourcontrolofthemachine.
•Donottouchtheengine,transmission,mufer,or
mufermanifoldwhiletheengineisrunning,or
soonafteryoushutofftheengine,becausethese
areasmaybehotenoughtocauseburns.
•Donotleavearunningmachineunattended.The
machineisconsideredunattendedwhenyouare
7.6m(25ft)ormorefromit,whichremainsin
view,orwheneveryouleavethemachineanditis
notwithinview.Wheneveryouleavethemachine
andarewithin7.6m(25ft)ofthemachineandit
isstillinview,setthecontrolsintheNEUTRAL
positionandengagetheparkingbraketoprevent
themachinefrommoving.
•Beforeyouleavetheoperatingposition,dothe
following:
–Parkthemachineonalevelsurface.

activatethesound-producingwarningdeviceat
crossaislesandwhenvisibilityisobstructedat
otherlocations.
•Donotdrivethemachineontoanyelevator
unlessspecicallyauthorizedtodoso.Approach
elevatorsslowly,andthenentersquarelyafter
theelevatorcarisproperlyleveled.Onceonthe
elevator,setthecontrolstotheNEUTRALposition,
shutofftheengine,andengagetheparkingbrake.
Haveallothersleavetheelevatorbeforeyouenter
orexitinthemachine.
•Donotoperatethemachinewhenthereistherisk

SlopeSafety
•Slopesareamajorfactorrelatedtoloss-of-control
andtip-overaccidents,whichcanresultinsevere
injuryordeath.
•Surveythesitetodeterminewhichslopesare
safeforoperatingthemachineandestablishyour
ownproceduresandrulesforoperatingonthose
slopes.Alwaysusecommonsenseandgood
judgmentwhenperformingthissurvey.
•Ifyoufeeluneasyoperatingthemachineona
slope,donotdoit.
•Keepallmovementonslopesslowandgradual.
Donotsuddenlychangethespeedordirectionof
themachine.
•Avoidoperatingthemachineonwetterrain.Tires
maylosetraction.Arollovercanoccurbeforethe
tireslosetraction.
•Ifpossible,avoidturningthemachineanduse
extremecautiononslopes,ramps,orinclines.
Travelstraightupanddownaslope.
•Ifyoubegintolosemomentumwhileclimbinga
slope,graduallyengagethebrakesandslowly
reversethemachinestraightdowntheslope.
•Turningwhilegoingupordownaslopecanbe
dangerous.Ifyoumustturnonaslope,doitslowly
andcautiously.Avoiddriving/turningonimproperly
bankedcurves.
•Heavyloadsaffectstabilityonaslope.Carrya
reducedloadandreduceyourgroundspeedwhen
operatingonaslopeoriftheloadhasahigh
centerofgravity.Securetheloadtothecargobed
ofthemachinetopreventtheloadfromshifting.
Takeextracarewhenhaulingloadsthatshifteasily
(e.g.,liquids,rock,sand,etc.).
•Avoidstartingandstoppingthemachineona
slope.Stoppingwhilegoingdownaslopetakes
longerthanstoppingonalevelsurface.Ifyou
muststopthemachine,avoidsuddenspeed
changes,whichcancausethemachinetotipor
rollover.Donotengagethebrakessuddenly
whenrollingrearward,asthismaycausethe
machinetooverturn.
•Wheneveryouoperatethemachineonsteep
grades,stayonthedesignatedvehiclepaths,
whichshouldbemarkedwithawarningofasteep
grade.
•Operatingthemachineatanexcessivespeed
downaslopewilladverselyaffectitsstability.
Identifyhazardousslopeswithawarninginplaces
precedingthebeginningoftheslope.Usecare
whenapproachingaslope,especiallywhenyou
turnthemachinedownhillorthedownhillslope
exceeds10%(6degrees)onanunpavedsurface
or20%(11degrees)onaapavedsurface.Avoid
parkingonsteephills.

StartingtheEngine
1.Sitintheoperatorseat,insertthekeyintothe
keyswitch,androtatethekeyclockwisetothe
ONorSTARTposition.
Thereare2modesofstartingthemachine:
•PedalStart—turnthekeyswitchtotheON
position,pressdowntheacceleratorpedal,
thenreleaseyourfootfromtheaccelerator
pedal.
Note:Whenyouremoveyourfootfromthe
acceleratorpedal,theengineshutsoff.
•KeyStart—turnthekeyswitchtotheSTART
positionandtheengineremainsonuntilthe
isturnedtotheOFFposition.
Note:Whenusingkeystartmode,youcan
engagetheparkingbrakeandworkawayfrom
themachinewhiletheenginestillrunsandthe
batteryholdsacharge.
Note:IfyouturnthekeytotheSTARTposition,
theenginecranksuntilitstarts.Iftheengine
cranksformorethan10seconds,returntothe
OFFposition,anddeterminetheissue(e.g.,
checktheaircleanerforrestrictions,ensurethat
thefueltankisfull,thesparkisbad,etc.)before
startingthemachineagain.
2.Movethegear-shiftselectortothedesired
directionoftravelforthemachine.
3.Slowlystepontheacceleratorpedal.
StoppingtheMachine
Important:Whenstoppingthemachineon
anincline,usetheservicebrakestostopthe
machineandengagetheparkingbraketoholdthe
machineinplace.Usingtheacceleratortostall
themachineonthehillcandamagethemachine.
1.Removeyourfootfromtheacceleratorpedal.
2.Slowlypressthebrakepedaltoapplytheservice
brakesuntilthemachinecomestoacomplete
stop.
Note:Thestoppingdistancemayvary
dependingonthemachineloadandspeed.
ParkingtheMachine
1.Stopthemachineusingtheservicebrakesby
pressingandholdingthebrakepedal.
2.Engagetheparkingbrakebypushingthe
parking-brakepedaldown.
3.RotatethekeycounterclockwisetotheOFF
position.
4.Removethekey.
