Before you are going to use your new Travelux Tiempo, you and your attendant must fully read and

understand this user manual. Also, if you have read this user manual, you agree to the conditions mentioned in

this user manual.

At the moment we introduce you to a quality product of Van Os Medical. We want to thank you for the

condence in our Travelux ® products. The policy of Van Os Medical is focussed on continuously improving the

quality and reliability of our products. Therefore we reserve the right to, without further notice, make changes

to this user manual

It is important you read this user manual very carefully, before you use your scooter. This user manual contains

important information about the safe use and maintenance of your scooter. We recommend you to keep this

user manual, because it is also your proof of warranty.

The safety instructions in this user manual are general guidelines which must be seen as overall guidelines. It

is possible you develop your own ways for many common movements. However, we advise you to consult a

professional for assistance in developing safe use and eective techniques, regarding your daily activities and

your physical capabilities.

Your new scooter requires frequent maintenance, much of which you can do yourself. We advise you to take

your scooter to a professional at least once a year for a check. You will nd a maintenance schedule later in this

user manual.

1. Identication

Your scooter is equipped with a unique serial number. You will nd this number on the frame of your scooter.

Below, you see an example of the framelabel, where you can nd the identication number. Furthermore, you

will nd the explanation of the various data stored on the framelabel listed below.

1. Production date

The date on which your scooter was manufactured.

2. Serial number

Every scooter has its own unique serial number. You need this number when you have any technical questions

or you want to order any parts of the scooter.

3. Maximum weight

The maximun weight allowed on the scooter.

4. Type number

This number indicates which model of scooter you have. You need this number when you have any technical

questions or you want to order any parts of the scooter.

5. Model name

The model name of your scooter starts with the brand name Travelux . The brand name Travelux , followed

by the de additional model description forms the model name of the scooter. You need the model name

when you have any technical questions or you want to order any parts of the scooter, in this case the Travelux

Tiempo.

reading this user manual. The design and specications may change without further notice.

2.2 General explanation of your scooter

The Travelux Tiempo scooter is ideal to take on trips being easily dismantled to t in the car boot. The scooter

is designed with user comfort in mand and separates into easily manageable sections for transportation. The

scooter is also equipped with comfortable seat with width adjustable, fold-able and removable armrests, delta

control and is operated through wigwag system.

3. Safety regulations

Van Os Medical specically disclaims responsibility for any personal injuries or property damage, which may

occur during any use when the recommendations and warnings described in this user manual are not followed.

The Travelux Tiempo is a very safe and stable product when used correctly, it is possible if you use scooter

incorrectly that dangerous situations may occur.

3.1 General safety regulations

Protect your scooter by checking it regularly. When a part of your Travelux Tiempo doesn’t function correctly,

a dangerous situation could occur. Therefore, you must keep your scooter in perfect condition, to ensure

safe use. Periodical inspection, a correct adjustment and replacement of broken or worn parts in quick time

will result in use for years without any problems. A qualied Travelux dealer, who will only use Travelux

replacement parts, will take care of your scooter and make sure you can use your scooter for years without

problems.

3.2. Warnings for safe use

To prevent any damage to your property, the scooter or the user of the scooter , you must read the following

warnings. Van Os Medical is not responsible for any damage, provided that the warnings are heeded. After

reading the warnings, you agree with the regulations, mentioned in this user manual.

• Before riding on public terrain, practice using and operating your scooter in a safe area rst;

• The same trac rules for pedestrians apply to the use of this scooter. Always follow pedestrian trac

lights. Always ride on the pavement, park way or other pedestrian areas available. Only ride your scooter

on the road when crossing or if there are no existing pavements;

• At the end of a pavement, be aware of trac on the road. Be extremely cautious when driving your

scooter around heavy trac and busy pedestrian areas;

• Failure to follow all the instructions in this manual may result in damage to the scooter or serious injury;

• Always operate your scooter with thought, care and safety;

• Do not drive into kerbs;

• It is important that the maximum user weight is not exceeded. The maximum user weight is the weight of

the person including luggage, etc;

• Unauthorised modifaction and or use of parts not supplied by Travelux will invalidate the warranty of this

scooter and may lead to injury to the user and or damage to the scooter;

• Before sitting on the seat to operate the scooter, you should always check the scooter is in the drive

position;

• Do not let children play with or on your scooter or take any children on your lap;

• To avoid tipping hazard, do not make turns at full speed;

• All wheels must be in contact with the oor at all times during use. This will ensure the scooter is properly

balanced;

• Do not lean against, or pull forward on the handle bar while mounting or dismounting from the scooter;

• Do not use your scooter when it is damaged or has any malfunction;

• Do not attempt to use your scooter on an escalator. Always use an elevator;

• Do not carry passengers under any circumstances;

• Always make sure the scooter’s power is turned o before dismantling;

• Do not drive backwards with your scooter on an incline or across an uneven surface;

• Always make sure the seat is locked forward before operating your scooter;

• Always come to a full stop before charging direction from forward to reverse or from reverse to forward;

• Do not use your scooter if you are under the inuence of alcohol, drugs or medication;

• Do not climb ramps or kerbs that exceed your scooters capacity which is a gradient of 6 degrees;

• Always approach inclines straight on;

• Always be aware of and careful near mechanical pinch points especially when assembling and

disassembling to your scooter;

• Never sit on your scooter when it is being transported;

• Always take extra care when driving on soft or uneven surface such as grass and gravel;

• Always cross roads using designated crossings or the most direct route possible, making sure that the

path is clear before crossing and ensuring you are visible to motor vehicles;

• Never drive backwards o a kerb;

• Never attempt to negotiate a threshold larger than 7cm either ascending or descending.;

• Never drive your scooter over a gap;

• Do not drive your scooter in icy conditions;

• Always check with your doctor to determine if any of the medications you are taking may aect your

judgment and/or your ability to operate your scooter.

Warning

If you make structural changes to your Travelux Tiempo scooter you invalidate the manufacturers warranty.

4. User instructions

It is very important that you read and understand the user instructions. Therefore, you need to know all the

components of the scooter as described in this user manual. Always check with an expert about developing

safe methods regarding your physical abilities to use your scooter .

4.1 Balance

Daily actions like getting in and out of the scooter, reaching and bending, will aect the balance of the scooter.

This has to do with weight distribution and change in centre of gravity. To prevent the scooter from tipping

over or other dangerous situations you should follow the directions described below.

4.1.1 Getting in and out of the scooter

Getting in and out of the scooter is a common action. The level of diculty when getting in and out of the

scooter depends on your physical abilities. In this manual we describe the steps you should follow to be able

to get in and out of the scooter unattended. When you can no longer do this independently, we advise you

to discuss your possibilities with an occupational therapist to nd out the best way to get in and out of your

scooter.

Getting in the scooter

Before getting on the scooter, make sure it is on a at surface. The scooter should always be in drive before

getting on the scooter. Always check if the scooter is turned o. You can do this by checking the LED lights

on the dashboard, these should be o. If the scooter is turned o at the ignition, you eliminate the chance of

accidentally touching the levers, possibly causing injury to yourself or others. The tiller should always be as

straight as possible. There is two ways of getting on the scooter. You can turn the chair and get on, or raise the

armrests and then get on. When you want to get on by turning the chair, you can rotate the chair 90 degrees

with the lever on the right side of the chair. This way you can get on easily and turn the chair back into driving

position. Would you rather get on without turning the chair, then you can raise the armrest on one side and get

on. Before driving, always put the armrests back down. Put your foot in the middle of the footrest when getting

on the scooter. For assuming the correct driving posture you can adjust the tiller to the desired angle. Put the

key into the ignition and turn one quarter to the right. The LEDs on the dashboard will now light up and you will

be ready to go.

Getting out of the scooter

When getting o you should follow the same steps for getting on in reverse order. Make sure the scooter is

always o and the key is removed from the ignition when getting o of the scooter. Put the tiller back into

upright position. You can now turn the chair or raise the armrest and get o. Always try to get o as close to

your destination as possible.

4.2 Going up and down inclines

It is possible you have to go up or down an incline with your scooter. In this manual we describe how you can

do this independently.

4.2.1 Going up an incline

When you want to go up an incline, always do so by going in a forwards direction. Make sure to keep in control

when going up the incline. This means not going up in the slowest speed setting, but with controlled average

speed. Keep the scooter driving when going up an incline. Should you stop on an incline, restart and increase

speed slowly. When you stop and then restart, it is possible that the scooter rst moves backward a little bit,

before continuing in a forward direction.

The anti-tip wheels that are always tted to the scooter, provide extra safety when going up an incline.

Additionally, it is important to not carry any extra weight like bags on your scooter. This keeps the center of

gravity on the back of the scooter.

4.2.2 Going down an incline

When you want to go down an incline, always do so by going in a forwards direction. Additionally, you should

always go down in a straight line. To keep control of your scooter it is important to not go down too fast. You

can control your speed by the amount of tension you put on the levers.

Tip

Make sure you inspect the incline before negotiating. That way you will know what to expect and you can safely

go upwards or downwards.

Warning

Never go up or down an incline that is covered with snow, ice, recently mowed or wet grass, leafs or other possibly

dangerous material.

Warning

If your scooter starts going faster than you want to when going down an incline, slowly release the gas lever. By

feeding less power the scooter will automatically brake, causing the scooter to slow down. When you feel you have

regained control of the scooter, keep the lever in this position.

4.3 Steering

The most important action on a scooter is steering. Below is described how to best do this in dierent

situations.

You should always keep both hands on the handlebar to steer left or right. It is important to not assume

a driving posture with straight arms, but it is better to slightly bend your arms. This provides more driving

comfort. When you are about to take a turn, always decrease your speed. This prevents the risk of falling over

with your scooter.

4.3.1 Steering in dierent situations

Your scooter is developed to increase your mobility. When driving, you will encounter dierent situations. To

be able to steer well in these situations, we have described a few situations and how to best handle them. By

following the steps below, you prevent dangerous situations from occurring.

Steering in small spaces

• Turn down to the lowest setting;

• Steer in the desired direction;

• Slowly pull the gas lever.

Steering backwards

• Turn down to the lowest speed setting;

• Pull the left gas lever;

• Turn the handlebar to the left to go left. When you want to go right, turn it to the right.

Uneven surfaces

• Your scooter performs perfectly on smooth surfaces. It is also possible to ride on uneven surfaces like

grass, gravel and sand. The scooter can also ride on slippery surfaces like snow and ice. But we advise you

to avoid these surfaces;

• When riding on uneven or slippery surfaces, adjust your speed to the situation;

• Make sure not to stop on these surfaces. You can avoid this by adjusting the speed to the lowest setting.

4.4 EMI / RFI

The fast developement of electronics, mostly in the area of communication, has ooded our world with

electromagnetic (radio) waves transmitted by TV, radio, laptops, microwaves and pacemakers. These

electromagnetic waves are invisible and get stronger the closer one gets to a source. If these electromagnetic

waves cause electrical appliances to stop functioning correctly or even completely stop working, this is called

Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) or Radio Frequency Interference (RFI).

All electrical vehicles, including scooters, are susceptible for Electromagnetic Interference / Radio Frequency

Interfenrece (RFI). This can result in unexpected movements of your scooter. Should any unintended

movements occur, or the brakes don’t work as normal, turn o your scooter immediately. The FDA has ruled

that every scooter should be able to resist EMI / RFI up to a certain level. The higher the level of interference

it can withstand, the better the protection against EMI / RFI is. This is measured in volts per meter (V/m). The

minimum resistance level against EMI / RFI should be 20 V/m. This product has been tested and found to have

a resistance level of 20 V/m.

4.4.1. EMI / RFI recommendations

• Do not use personal electronic communication devices like a mobile phone, when using your scooter;

• Be extra careful when using your scooter near radio and television towers;

• Turn o your scooter when you are standing still for a longer time.

6. Components of the Travelux Tiempo

In this chapter the dierent components of the Travelux Tiempo are described. On the scooter are a number

of components present which are adjustable. If you want to add or remove any of its components, make any

adjustments of replace components, you should always follow the instructions described in this user manual.

6.1 Dashboard

The Travelux Tiempo is equipped with a dashboard. The dashboard of the is easy to read and easy to operate.

The photo below shows the dashboard. The numbers will be explained in more detail below.

1. O- and on knob (key switch)

With this knob you can turn your scooter on- and o. You have to put the key in the plug. Turn the key 90

degrees clockwise. Now is your scooter ‘‘on’’. The scooter will give one beep at the time, the battery meter will

light up. If you want to turn the Travelux Tiempo o, you must turn the key counterclockwise (in the vertical

position).

2. Speed adjustment

This speedcontroller controls the speed of your scooter. You start at the lowest speed until you are sure that

you fully controls the scooter and it feels familiar. Turn the controller with the clock in to increse the speed.

Turn the controller counterclockwise to decrease speed.

3. Joysticks

The operation of the Travelux Tiempo is connected by a wigwag system. If you want to drive forward, you

have to pull the right lever. See photo 1. It is also possible to drive backward. If you want to drive backward,

please pull the left lever as shown as photo 2. The Travelux TIempo is equipped with an automatic braking. This

ensures that when you release the lever to go forward or backward, the scooter brakes automatically.

4. Battery indicator

The battery indicator shows the capacity of the batteries. The green light indicates that the batteries are

fully charged. The orange light means that the batteries are charged half and the red light indicates that the

batteries are empty and it is time to recharge the batteries.

It is important that you never drive when the batteries are completely empty! When you recharge the batteries

at 20 percent, the batteries last longer.

5. Horn

The horn can be used to indicate to other road users that you come to it and / or to avoid dangerous situations.

6. Blue button

Press this button to turn on the front lights. Press the button again to turn the lights o.

6.2 Tiller

The Travelux Tiempo tiller can be easily adjusted in angle for comfortable driving position. By following these

steps, you can adjust the tiller angle;

• On photo 3 you can see the tiller in its most upright position, you should put the tiller in this position at

the moment you wish to get o. This gives you more room to get o (see Chapter 4);

• To the right of the tiller is a black and grey star knob attached (photo 4). You must unscrew the knob by

turing counterclockwise and then pulling the tiller towards you and re-tightening the knob.

6.3 Battery

The Travelux Tiempo is equipped with a removable battery pack which consists of two sealed, maintenance

free batteries. Van Os Medical recommends before you use your scooter for the rst time you give the batteries

a continuous 12 hour charge. By doing this you give the batteries the best chance to last a long time. Your

scooter has an o-board charger you can charge the battery pack either in its normal location on the scooter or

away from the scooter. After each use we recommend charging the batteries for 6 to 8 hours to extend battery

life. To charger your scooter follow the below instructions:

• Turn the scooter o;

• Slide the battery cover o the socket, And insert the charger plug into the socket;

• Do not turn the charger o before all plugs are plugged in;

• The LED will be red during charging;

• When the batteries are fully charged the LED light turns green;

• If you do not use your scooter for longer than a week you should disconnect the battery pack after fully

charging to make sure the batteries do not drain.

6.4 Armrests

The Travelux Tiempo is equipped with foldable and removable armrests. This user manual describes how you

can apply the settings on your scooter. The armrests fold can be done very easily by pulling up the armrest as

shown in photos 8 and 9. Folding the armrests makes getting on and o of your scooter easier.

Width adjustment

The Travelux Tiempo is equipped with width adjustable armrests. Under the seat is a black button (see photo

10). To set the width you need to loosen this knob and pull lightly on the armrest. At that time, the armrest

extends and it is wider. Once the arm is in the desired width, tighten the knob.

It is also possible to take o the armrest completely. To remove the armrest fully release the knob pictured

below and slide out completely.

6.5 Freewheel

The Travelux Tiempo is equipped with two positions, drive position and freewheel position (please see below

image). Drive (rear most position) is indicated by the image of a person driving the scooter, freewheel (forward

position) is indicated by the image of a person pushing the scooter. To change between the two positions push

the red lever. Please ensure the power is o when changing from drive to freewheel and vice-versa. If you turn

the power on in freewheel the scooter will not drive. To correct turn the power o, change the position to drive

and turn the power on. In Drive the electromagnetic brake is engaged so the scooter cannot be pushed can can

only be driven. In freewheel the electromagnetic brake is not engaged, the scooter cannot be driven because of

this however you can push it.

6.6 Wheels

On your scooter are 4 wheels xed to the axles. The tyres should be regularly checked for wear.

6.6.1 PU tyres

Your scooter is equipped with four polyurethane tyres. Polyurethane (PU) tyres are leak-proof tyres. These are

increasingly being used on scooters. You can identify these tyres to the fact that there is no valve present. The

advantage of this PU tyres is that these need not be pumped up and can not be punctured.

6.6.2 Anti-tip wheels

The Travelux Tiempo is equipped with anti-tip wheels. The anti-tip wheels are attached to the rear. The wheels

move with it, when you drive over an obstacle and provide a safe ride.

7 Transporting the scooter

Your Travelux Tiempo scooter is designed to be easily transported by car. The tiller can be folded down and the

front frame can be seperated from the rear frame. Also, the basket of the scooter and the seat are removable.

7.1 Disassembling the scooter

To disassemble the scooter, you should follow the following operations:

• You must rst remove the basket. You do this by standing in front of the tiller of the scooter and move

the basket in an upward movement;

• Remove the seat. This is done by pushing the black lever on the right side of the seat and rotate the seat

to the right, see picture 11. You can then lift o the seat;

• Take o the battery pack. You can do this by grasping the handle on top of the battery pack and lift it

upwards movement, ensure the battery clamp has been loosened to allow easy removal of the

battery pack, see picture 12;

• Lock the tiller so it cannot rotate anymore when handling it (photo 13). Fold down the tiller. This is done

by the black and grey star knob that arms the right of the tiller, loosening. Move the tiller until it is

completely folded down;

• Then tighten the black and grey star knob to lock the tiller in at position;

• Separate the front frame of the rear frame. You can do this by pulling the lever (photo 16). In this way, the

rear frame separate from the front frame;

• Lift the front frame in an upward loose movement of the rear frame.

7.2 Assembling the scooter

To assemble the scooter, you should follow the following operations:

• Lift the front frame using the handle on the rear frame. Turn the tiller up. This is done by loosening the

star button and then move the tiller to the desired position. Note: tighten the star button to lock the tiller;

• Insert the battery pack and the basket. Also place the seat back on the scooter. You must ensure that the

seat is standing straight up hold the seat post tube, otherwise you can not take the chair parts. Release

the tiller lock. The scooter is now ready for use.
