FOREWORD: BODY FAT
Regular monitoring of fat and weight is the prerequisite for your health and fitness. Fat contributes considerably to the load
on the body, particularly the heart and blood circulatory system. The proportion of fat in the human body is different for each
individual. There are heavy people who nevertheless may have a balanced ratio of fat and muscle, and there are apparently
slim people who may have a much higher proportion of body fat.
Body fat has an important role to play in our bodies. It protects the joints, stores vitamins and controls body temperature.
With this in mind, radically reducing the amount of fat in your body must not become an absolute goal. A more sensible aim
should be to achieve and maintain a balanced ratio of muscle to fat.
You have to know your proportion of body fat to be able to judge your actual degree of fitness.
The KH 88R body fat monitoring bathroom scale allows you to enter data about your body. The table below shows the
relationship between the amount of body fat and age and gender. It serves as a yardstick for your personal fitness profile.
You should always measure fat at the same time of the day because the proportion of fat varies greatly during the course
of the day. The best time for fat monitoring is between 18.00 and 20.00 hours.
IMPORTANT SAFETY ADVICE
1) If the weight on the scale exceeds the maximum capacity of 150 kg (or 330 lb), then the display shows "0-Ld”.
You should step off the scale immediately to avoid damaging it.
2) If the display shows "L0”, the batteries require changing.
3) If the display shows "Err”, this means that the scale is not able to measure body fat. If this occurs then you should check
the following:
- go through the data input stage again and check that your personal data is still correct.
- do not wear shoes or socks. Make sure that your feet are clean and dry (if your feet are too dry, the scale may not
operate correctly. In this case, moisten your feet slightly with a moist cloth and that should solve the problem).
Always stand as steadily as possible on the scale and do not interrupt the measuring process.
4) If the display shows ‘Err1‘, then this means that there is a problem with the infrared transmission.
Move the scale or the remote control handset to obtain better signal transmission.
DO NOT USE THE SCALE IF YOU ARE PREGNANT OR ARE USING A DEVICE SUCH AS A HEART PACEMAKER,
RESPIRATOR OR ELECTROCARDIOGRAM.
THE SCALE CAN GIVE FALSE RESULTS FOR CHILDREN UNDER 15 OR FOR PEOPLE OVER 70 YEARS OLD.
THE SAME APPLIES FOR PEOPLE WITH OSTEOPOROSIS OR VERY LOW BONE DENSITY, DIALYSIS PATENTS
OR PEOPLE WHO TAKE PART IN PERFORMANCE SPORTS. THIS SCALE CAN BE STILL VERY HELPFUL FOR
MONITORING CHANGES IN THE PROPORTION OF BODY FAT. HOWEVER, A PRECISE READING OF THE
PROPORTION OF BODY FAT CANNOT BE GUARANTEEED.

Electromagnetic compatibility:
This product is designed only for domestic use.
This product is a sensitive electronic instrument and could therefore be subject to temporary interference from directly
adjacent electrical signal transmitting devices (such as mobile phones, walkie-talkies, CB radio sets, remote control devices
or microwave ovens).
Should problems with the display occur or spurious error messages be displayed, then you should move the scale away from
the source of the interference or switch the interfering device off whilst you are using the scale.
Setting the unit of measurement
Press ‘ ‘ to switch on the scale. When the display shows ‘0.0‘ press ‘ ‘ to select kg or lb.
Weighing mode
(weight measurement without simultaneous body fat measurement)
Press ‘ ‘ to switch on the scale. The display first shows a flashing ‘1-10’ and then shows ‘0.0‘. First “1-10” flashes,
then the indicator light shows ON. Step on to the scale and stand still.
Within a few seconds the display will show your weight. The scale switches itself off automatically.
If the scale does not show your weight after displaying ‘0.0‘, it will switch off automatically after 30 seconds.
Entering your personal data
(for body fat measurement)
Before you can measure your body fat, you first have to enter your personal data.
1) Press ‘ ‘ to switch on the scale.
2) If the display shows ‘1-10‘, press ‘ ‘ to switch to entry mode.
3) A flashing number appears. Press the ‘ ‘ button or the ‘ ‘ button to select the memory location for your personal data.
The scale has 10 memory locations available for personal data.
4) After you have entered your personal data into the selected memory location, press ‘ ‘ to confirm.
5) The display now shows only kg and lb. Press the ‘ ‘ button or the ‘ ‘ button to select the units of measurement for
weight. Confirm your selection by pressing ‘ ‘.
6) The display now shows a flashing ‘male’ or ‘female’. Select your gender by pressing ‘ ’ or ‘ ‘. Confirm your selection
by pressing ‘ ‘.
7) The display shows ‘170 cm’ (or 5’ 07”, if you selected the lb units). Enter your actual height by pressing the ‘ ‘ button
or the ‘ ‘ button respectively to increase or reduce this value. Confirm your selection by pressing ‘ ‘ once.
8) The display shows ‘30‘. Enter your actual age by pressing the ‘ ‘ button or the ‘ ‘ button respectively to increase or
reduce this value. Confirm your selection by pressing ‘ ‘.
9) Your personal data is now stored. The display shows ‘1-10’ again. You can repeat stages 2 to 8 if you wish to change your
personal data or to enter another person’s personal data. OR press ‘ ‘ or ‘ ‘ to recall your personal data from the
memory location. As soon as you have selected the memory location the display shows ‘0.0‘. Step on to the scale
bare-footed and remain stationary there whilst your weight and fat measurements are being taken. OR, allow the scale
to switch off automatically.
Measurement of weight simultaneously with body fat
1) Press ‘ ‘ to switch on the scale.
2) The display shows ‘1-10 ‘. Select your personal data memory location by pressing ‘ ‘ or ‘ ‘.
Wait until the display shows ‘0.0’, and the indicator light shows ON. After the (personal) memory location has been
selected, the indicator light shows ON.
3) Step on to the scale bare-footed and stand still. After a few seconds the scale shows your weight
and proportion of body fat. The scale switches itself off automatically.

Please note for monitoring body fat
Height: 100 cm to 220 cm or 3’03’’ to 7’02’’
Age: 10-85 years
Control
The bathroom scale is operated by an infrared remote control unit. It can be used in any of the following situations:
- from where it is kept in the recess provided on the scale
- whilst held in the hand over the scale with the transmission lens above the sensor on the scale; or
- mounted on the wall above the scale with the transmission lens horizontal.
Note:
The scale will only work if it receives a signal from the remote control unit. When this happens the indicator light shows ON
Advice on use and maintenance
1) The scale is fitted with sensitive electronic components. Therefore you should never place it directly adjacent to sources
of heat or where there is a lot of moisture.
2) To obtain precise results you should place the scale down upon a firm, level, non-slippery surface.
3) You should only stand on the scale with bare, dry feet. Do not wear shoes or socks.
4) Do not compare these measurements with those from another weighing machine, as there could be differences due to
manufacturing tolerances.
5) Since the water content as well as the fat content of your body can vary within a single day, you should always use the
scales at the same time of day in order to ensure comparable results. Early morning is the best time for weighing.
6) The scale always rounds to the nearest whole increment, either up or down. If you weigh yourself twice and the readings
are different, then your weight (or fat values) will be between these two readings.
7) The scale should be cleaned using a neutral cleaning agent and a moist cloth.
8) Remove the batteries if you expect not to be using the scale for a long time. Store the scale in a clean and dry place.
9) Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the scale.
10) Treat your scale carefully. Do not drop it or jump on it.
11) This scale is intended for domestic use only.
