V.O.E. T. SWITCH
The V.O.E.T.switch has fourconvenient functions:
The valet functionallows easy, permanent disarmingofthe alarm system. This is
useful for unloadinggroceries, or servicingthe car. To activate the valet mode, turn
the ignitionkey on and flipthe V.O.E.T. switchon then back to off. Nowthe alarm
willnot arm. Ifyou wish to deactivate the valet mode, turnthe ignitionon and flip
the V.O.E.T.switch on then back to off. Nowthe alarm can be armed.
The emergency dlsann functionis a back-up method ofdisarming the alarm in
case the transmitter is lostor stolen. To disarm the alarm, firstopen a door. The
alarm willbegin to sound. Turnon the key and then flipthe V.O.E.T.switchto the
on position and then back to the offposition.
The defective zone override functionlets the alarm arm even ifone or more ofthe
alarm's sensing devices are defective. Forexample, ifthe door switch is defective
the alarm willnot arm and thus willnot "CHIRP". To arm the remainingsensors, flip
the V.O.E.T.switchto the on position. (The switchwillremain inthe on position.) To
disengage the defective zone override, flipthe V.O.E.T.switchback to the off
position.
IMPORTANT:Armingthe alarm withthe override (V.O.E.T.)switch inthe "ON"
positionwilldisable the fail-safearmingfeature and force the alarm to arm withan
open or defective door/sensor. Withthe override (V.O.E.T.)switch"ON",the alarm
system, when armed, is not fullyprotectingthe vehicle. Repair the alarm system
and return the override (V.O.E.T.)switchto the "OFF"positionas soon as possible.
The temporary di.ann functioncan be used to temporarilydisarm the alarm. This
is useful forleavingthe car for a short period of time such as during a stop at a gas
station. To operate, turn offthe key and flipthe V.O.E.T. switchon and then back
to off. If you change your mindand wish to leave the car foran extended time,
press the transmitter buttonto arm the alarm. The temporary disarm feature is
automaticallydisenganged once the key is turned on.
For a quick reference guide on the V.O.E.T.Switch,see reverse side.
ALARM DURATION
Ifthe alarm is triggered, it will sound in four 28-second cycles with a 10-second
pause between cycles. For example, ifthe door is opened by an intruder, the alarm
willautomaticallysound for28 seconds. Ifthe door has not been shut before the
end of the 28-second cycle, the alarm will continue to sound for three more cycles
and then stop sounding. During this time the lights will flash in 38-second cycles
with no pause. If any of the other sensors are triggered, or the same door is closed
and then reopened, the process will begin again.
FOUR FUNCTION LED
The alarm brain red LED has four useful functions:
. The RF transmitter-receiver can be tested by pushing the transmitter button.
If the alarm brain LEDcomes on, the transmitter-receiver is working properly.
. When in valet mode the LED will flash 1.5seconds on, 0.5 second off.
This alerts you to the fact that the alarm is currently off. It also gives the
appearance to would-be thieves that the alarm is armed.
. When the VS1000 is fully armed, the LED will flash 0.5 second on,1.5 seconds
off, as a warning to would-be thieves that your vehicle is protected by an alarm.
. WhentheVS1000isnotarmednorinthevaletmode, the LED will be off.

NOTE3:
Armingthe alarmwith the override(V.O.E.T.)switchinthe "ON"positionwilldisablethe fail-safearmingfeature and forcethe alarmto armwithan open
door/sensor. WIth the override (V.O.E.T.) switch "ON",the aIann system, when armed, is not fullyprotecting the vehicle. Repair the alarm system and
return the override (V.O.E.T.) switch to the "OFP position as soon as possible.
AUTOMATICARMING- Alarm willarm automatically 15 seconds after the last door is shut. However, ifyou wish, you can arm the alarm manually after the
last door is shut, by pressing the transmitter button once.
Two ways to remove the "temporary disarm of automatic arming" feature:
(1) Close all doors and press the transmitter once. The alarm will"chirp"and arm.
(2) Turn the ignition key from offto on, then back to off. Open the door, then shut the door. The alarm willgo back to the "automatic arming" mode.
When the VS1000 is fullyarmed, the LEDwillflash 0.5 second on, 1.5 seconds off. When in valet mode, the LED willflash 1.5 seconds on, 0.5 second off.
This protects car invalet mode, as thief willsee flashing LED and assume alarm is armed.

CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulationsl From the moment YOllpurchased this VS1000 Vehicle Security
System, you became a part of the UNIDENfamily. You started taking advantage of
over 22 years of advanced security engineering. You joined a team of engineers,
technicians, designers, and people like yourself who know how important protecting
your car is. You discovered the UNIDENdifference.
ThisdifferenceisimportantbecausetheVS1ooois more than an alarm. It is
complete peace of mind. It is knowing that your car is protected around the clock by
its own security guard- one that never sleeps, never takes a break.
But even the best security systems will not work correctly without careful installation.
For greatest security, installation by your professional UNIDENdealer is strongly
recommended. He understands both his alarms and your needs, and will work hard
to ensure the VS1ooo does its job for you.
Welcome to the family: UNIDEN, your dealer, and youl

OPERATING THE VS1000
AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK AND FLASHING LIGHTS
Your VS1000 offers the convenience of automatically locking
and unlocking your car's doors and flashing the lights when the car
is armed and disarmed. This may require the addition of certain
optional accessories, and you should discuss with your
professional UNIDENdealer about whether or not you
wish to have them installed with your alarm.
This manualassumes you are using the
power door lock control and flashing light features
of your VS1000. Ifyou decide not to use these
features, just disregard any references to them.
ARMING THE VS1000
If manual arming is selected, the alarm will
arm instantly after you press the transmitter's
button. Ifautomatic arming is selected, the
alarm will arm 15 seconds after the last door is closed. For manual arming, a
"CHIRP" should be heard and the parking lights will flash once after pushing the
button, to signify that the alarm is armed. For automatic arming, a "CHIRP" should
be heard and the parking lights will flash once after the last door is closed, to confirm
that the alarm is arming. Ineither case, if you do not hear the "CHIRP" and see the
flashing ofthe parking lights, the alarm is informing you that a door has not been shut
properly. This remarkable patented fail-safe featurestops you from walking away
thinking your car is protected when it is not. (Your installercan turn this "CHIRP" off,
if you desire.)
Duringthe delay period for automatic arming, you can temporarily disarm the
VS1000 simply by opening a car door. This lets you re-enterthe car without having
to first disarm the alarm. When finished, shut the door and arm the alarm manually
or automatically as above. This process can be repeated as often as needed. Once
the delay period hasexpired, the alarmwill be fully armed and the red LED will begin
to flash. Any attempt nowto enter the car without first disarming the VS1000 will
immediately trigger the alarm, causing the siren to sound and the parking lights to
flash simultaneously.
DISARMING THE VS1000
The VS1000's patented 3-step disarming process prevents accidental
disarming, if automatic arming is used. Unless all steps are carried out, the alarm will
rearm itself. If automatic arming is used, first press the transmitter's button (the
alarm will "CHIRP" twice and the parking lights will flash twice). Then open a car door
within 15 seconds. If a door is not opened, the alarm will rearm itself automatically.
Finally turn the ignition keyto ON. If manual arming is used, press the transmitter's
button (thealarm will "CHIRP" twice and the parking lights will flash twice). The
VS1000 is disarmed.
TAMPER INDICATOR
Ifa thief broke into your car while you were gone, the VS1000 has a unique way
of alerting you. When the transmitter is used to disarm the alarm, the lightswill flash
seven times (instead of twice) to indicate the violation.
EMERGENCY CALL FOR HELP
You can sound the siren by turning off the ignition key and holding down the
transmitter's button for three seconds. The siren will begin to sound, chasing away
would be attackers and alerting neighbours. However, range of transmitter may vary;
see Trouble shooting section, item 2.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
Your VS1000 is an extremely reliable vehicle security system. In most cases, the
rare operational difficulties are the result of a weak transmitter battery or an open
car door. Below are guidelines to solving the majority of the problems you may
experience. If after following these guidelines you have not found the problem,
contact your professional installer immediately.
1. No siren sound or "chirp" when the transmitter button is pressed for arming or
disarming or held down for emergency call for help.
A. Check that all doors and the hood and trunk are closed and the ignition key is
removed from the switch.
B. Replace the transmitter battery and check the clips.
2. Transmitter works in some areas and not in others. This is probably due to
excess RF activity in that area, and is temporary (usually just a short time and
only while the car is in that area, but may be longer depending on the type of the
activity). It will not affect the alarm in other areas.
3. Alarm sounds for no apparent reason. Be sure that the transmitter button is not
being held down too long or that something in your pocket or purse is not
pressing against the transmitter button. The receiver may also be picking up
interference from a nearby airport or military base, Iow-flying plane, or other
source. Such interference is temporary.
NOTE: Under no circumstances should you make any repairs or adjustments to any
component of the transmitter or receiver. Unauthorized repairs or.adjustments to
any components will void the warranty. However, you may change the transmitter
battery by yourself, if needed, as shown below.
CHANGING THE TRANSMITTER BATTERY
1. Unscrew the small screw from the transmitter's back.
2. Turn the transmitter so that the LED is facing you. Remove the top cover, taking
care not to break the LED.
3. Check that the battery clips are contacting the positive (+) and negative (-) ends
of the battery properly.
4. Retestthe alarm by pressing the small push button in the canter of the circuit
board near the LED. If the alarm still does not operate properly, replace the
battery. DO NOT TOUCH ANY OTHER PARTS OF THE
TRANSMITTER. MAKE SURE THE POSITIVEAND
NEGATIVE BATTERY ENDSCORRESPOND
CORRECTLY TO THE POSITIVE AND
NEGATIVE BATTERY CLIPS.
5. Replace the front cover, taking care notto
break the LED.
6. Replace the screw, turning it in tight
enough to holdthe case together, but not so
tight that the case cracks.
