PATENTED, 2-STAGE, PRE-INTRUSION,
ELECTROMAGNETIC SHOCK SENSOR
This VS1000XL is equippedwith a2-stage, pre-intrusion, electromagn~tic shock sensor. If the
vehide is lightly rapped, the first stage sensor will cause the alarm siren to "chirp." This feature
provides a pre-intrusion waming to would-be thieves. If a harder impact is made to the vehide, the
secondstagesensor will activatethe alarmand soundthe siren. .
NOTE: the alarm will not have this pre-intrusion feature if your alarm is programmed to use
current sensing.
ALARM DURATION, SIREN AND FLASHING LIGHT
If the alarm is triggered, it will sound four 28-second cycles with a 10-second pause between
cydes. For example, if a door opening is detected, the alarm will automatically sound for 28
seconds. If the door has not been shut before the end of the 28-second cycle, the alarm will
continue to sound for three more cycles and then stop sounding. During this time the lights will
flash in 38-second cycles with no pause. If any of the other sensors are triggered, or the same
door is closed and then reopened, the process will begin again.
~O.E. T.SWITCH
.~ The V.O.E.T.switch has four convenientfunctions:
The Valet: allows easy, permanent disarming of the alarm system. This is useful for unloading
groceries, or servicing the car. To activate the valet mode, tum the ignition key on and flip the
V.O.E.T. switch on, then back to off. Now the alarm will not arm. If you wish to deactivate the
Ivaietmode,tumtheignitiononandfliptheV.O.E.T.switchon,thenbacktooff. Nowthealarm
Ican be armed.
I
I:The Defective zone override: lets the alarm arm even if one or more of the alarm's sensing
-i,devices are defective. For example, if the door switch is defective the alarm will not arm and thus
I.will not "CHIRP".-Toarmthe remainingsensors, flip the V.O.E.T.switchto the on position. (The
!Iswitch will remain in the on position.) To disengage the defective zone override, flip the V.O.E.T.
, switch back to the off position. .
IMPORTANT: Arming the alarm with the override (V.O.E.T.) switch in the "ON" position will disable
. the fail-safe arming feature and force the alarm to arm with an open or defective door/
sensor. With the override (V.O.E.T.) switch "ON", the alarm system, when armed, is not
fully protecting the vehicle. Repair the alarm system and return the override (V.O.E.T.)
I switch to the "OFF" position as soon as possible.
iThe Emergency disarm: a back-up method of disarming the alarm in case the transmitter is lost
I or stolen. To disarrT! the alarm, first open a door. The alarm will begin to sound. Tum on the key
.and then flip the V.O.E.T. switch to the on position and then back to the off position.
The Temporary disarm: can be used to temporarily disarm the alarm. This is useful for leaving
the car for a short period of time such as during a stop at a gas station. To operate, tum off the
. key and flip the V.O.E.T. switch on and then back to off. If you change your mind and wish to
leave the car for an extended time, press the transmitter button to arm the alarm. The temporary
disarm feature is automatically disengaged once the key is turned on.
For a quick reference guide on the V.O.E.T. Switch, see right side.
FOUR-FUNCTION LED
The alarm brain red LED has four useful functions:
. The RF transmitter-receiver can be tested by pushing the transmitter button.
!If the alarm brain LED comes on, the transmitter-receiver is working properly.
. When in valet mode the LED will flash 1.5 seconds on, 0.5 second off.
This alerts you to the fact that the alarm is currently off. It also gives the
appearance to would-be thieves that the alarm is armed.
. When the VS1000XL is fully armed, the LED will flash 0.5 second on, 1.5 seconds off, as a
warning to would-be thieves that your vehicle is protected by an alarm.
. When the VS1000XL is not armed nor in the valet mode, the LED will be off.

V.O.E.T. SWITCH OPERATION CHART
.NOTE 1: Arming the alarm with the override (V.O.E.T.) switch in the "ON" position will disable the fail-safe arming feature and force the alarm to arm with an open
door/sensor. With the override (V.O.E.T.) switch "ON", the alarm system, when armed, is not fully protecting the vehide. Repair the alarm system and
return the override (V.O.E.T.) switch to the "OFF" position as soon as possible.
NOTE 2: AUTOMATIC ARM ING - Alarm will arm automatically 15seconds after the last door is shut. However, if you wish, you can arm the alarm manually after
the last door is shut, by pressing the transmitter button once.
NOTE 3: Two ways to remove the "temporary disarm of automatic arming" feature:
(1) Close all doors and press the transmitter once. The alarm will "chirp" and arm.
(2) Turn the ignition key from off to on, then back to off. Open the door, then shut the door. The alarm will go back to the "automatic arming" mode.
NOTE 4: When the VS1000XL is fully armed, the LED will flash 0.5 second on, 1.5 seconds off. When in valet mode, the LED will flash 1.5 seconds on, 0.5 second
off. This protects car in valet mode, as thief will see flashing LED and assume alarm is armed.

OPERATING THE VS1000XL
AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK AND FLASHING LIGHTS
Your VS1000XL offers the convenience of automatically locking
and unlocking your car's doors and flashing the lights when
the car is armed and disarmed. This may require the
, addition of certain optional accessories, and you
should discuss with your professional
UNIDEN dealer about whether or not you wish
to have them installed with your alarm.
This guide assumes you are using the power
door lock control and flashing light features of
your VS1000XL. If you decide not to use
I these features, just disregard any references
to them.
ARMING THE VS1000XL
If manual active anning is selected, the alarm will arm instantly after you press the
transmitter's button. If automatic passive anning is selected, the alarm will arm 15
seconds after the last door is closed. For manual arming, a "CHIRP"should be heard
i and the parking lights will flash once after you push the button, to signify that the
Ialarmis armed. Forautomaticarming,a "CHIRP"shouldbe heardandtheparking
Ilights will flash once after the last door is closed, to confirm that the alarm is arming.
: In either case, if you do not hear the "CHIRP" and see the flashing of the parking
Ilights,thealarmisinformingyouthatadoorhasnotbeenshutproperly.This
remarkable patented fail-safe featurestops you from walking away thinking your car
is protected when it is not. (Your installercan turn this "CHIRP" off..if you desire.)
, DlJIingthe delay period for automatic arming, you can temporarily disarm the
TVS1000XL simply by opening a car door. This lets you re-enterthe car without
having to first disarm the alarm. When finished, shut the door and arm the alarm
: manually or automatically as above. This process can be repeated as often as
needed. Once the delay period has expired, the alarm will be fully armed and the red
LED will begin to flash. Any attempt now to enter the car without first disarming the
VS1000XL will immediately trigger the alarm, causing the siren to sound and the
parking lights to flash simultaneously.
)DISARMINGTHEVS1000XL
The VS1000XL's patented 3-step disarming process prevents accidental disarming.
Unless all steps are carried out, the alarm will rearm itself. If automatic passive
annlng is used, first press the transmitter's button, and the alarmwill "CHIRP" twice,
,andtheparkinglightswillflashtwice. Thenopenacardoorwithin15seconds.Ifa
door is not opened, the alarm will rearm itself automatically. Finally turn the ignition
,\key to ON. If manual active annlng is used, pressthe button, and the alarm will
:I "CHIRP" twice, and the parking lights will flash twice. The VS1000XL is disarmed
and will not rearm itself.
EMERGENCY CALL FOR HELP (PANIC MODE)
You can sound the siren by turning off the ignition key and holding down the
transmitter's button for three seconds. The siren will begin to sound, chasing away
would-be attackers and alerting neighbours. However, range of transmitter may vary;
see Trouble Shooting section, item 2.
, CAR LOCATOR AND TAMPER INDICATOR WHILE DISARMING
Two long flashes show car's location when the alarm is disarmed by the transmitter.
The VS1000XL will notify the owner of any prior attempt to break into the car. If the
alarm has been tampered with, the lights will flash seven times (instead of twice)
when the transmitter is used to disarm the plarm. Switching on the ignition will reset
the memory.' .

A
TROUBLE SHOOTING
Ypur VS1000XL is an extremely reliable vehicle security system. In most cases, the rare
operational difficulties are the result of a weak transmitter battery or an open car door.
Below are guidelines to solving the majority of the problems you may experience. If after
following these guidelines you have not found the problem, contact your professional
installer immediately.
1. No siren sound or "chlrp" when the transmitter button Is pressed for arming or
disarming or held down for emergency call for help.
A. Check that all doors and the hood and trunk are closed and the ignition key is
removed from the switch.
B. Replace the transmitter battery and check the clips.
2. Transmitter works in some areas and not In others. This is probably due to excess
RF activity in that area, and is temporary (usually just a short time and only while the car .
is in that area, but may be longer depending on the type of the activity). It will not affect
thealarminotherareas. r
3. Alarm sounds for no apparent reason. Be sure that the transmitter button is not being
held down too long or that something in your pocket or purse is not pressing against the
transmitter button. The receiver may also be picking up interference from a nearby
airport or military base, Iow-flying plane, or other source. Such interference is temporary.
4. Alarm does not arm manually or automatically but the doors will lock/unlock when
the transmitter Is pressed. When Ignition Is off, LED has a long flash (1.5 sec. on,
0.5 sec. Off)i When Ign~tlon Is on, LED Is off.
A. The alarm is accidentally activated into valet mode.
Bo-Turn-ignition 00, flip the \l.O.E.T. switch from.off to-on,1hen back to off, then turQ
ignition off. Alarm can now be armed.
5. Alarm will not automatically arm Inpassive mode. Alarmwill arm manually by
pressing the transmitter.
A. TheV.O.E.T. switch is accidentally switched over to the override mode.
B. Turn ignition off, flip the V.O.E.T. switch to off position. Press transmitter button to
arm alarm. Alarm is now normal.
NOTE 1: If the alarm still does not function properly after checking the V.O.E.T. switch,
consult the VS1000XL dealer where you purchased the product, for further advice.
NOTE 2: Under no circumstances should you make any repairs or adjustments to any
component of the transmitter or receiver. Unauthorized repairs or adjustments to
any components will void the warranty. However, you may change the transmitter
battery by yourself, if needed, as shown below.
CHANGING THE TRANSMITTER BATTERY
1. Unscrew the small screw from the transmitter's back.
2. Replace the battery. MAKE SURE THE POSITIVEAND
NEGATIVE BATTERY ENDS CORRESPOND
CORRECTLY TO THE POSITIVE AND
NEGATIVE BATTERY CLIPS.
3. Replace the front cover, taking care not to
break the LED.
4. Replace the screw, turning it in tight enough
to hold the case together, but not so tight that
thecasecracks. '
