Important Safet~ Instructions
When using your telephone equipment, these basic safety precautions
should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, and
injuryto persons:
1. Readand understand all instructions.
2. Followall warnings and instructions markedon the product.
3. Unplugthis productfrom the wall outlet beforecleaning. Use a drycloth
for cleaning without liquid or aerosol cleaners.
4. Donot usethis product near water; for example, near a bath tub, wash
bowl, kitchen sink or laundrytub, ina wet basement,or neara
swimming pool.
5. Donot placethis product on an unstablecart, stand,or table. The
telephone mayfall, causing serious damageto the unit.
6. Slots andopenings inthe cabinet andthe backor bottom are provided
for ventilation. To protect the productfrom overheating, these openings
must not be blockedor covered. This productshould never be placed
near or over a radiatoror heat register.This product should not be
placed in a built-in installationunlessproper ventilation is provided.
7. This product should be operated only from the type of power source
indicated on the marking label. Ifyou are not sure of the type of power
supply to your home, consult your dealer or local power company.
8. Donot allow anything to reston the power cord. Do not locate this
product where the cord will be damaged by personswalking on it.
9. Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords, as this can result in
the risk of fire or electrical shock.
10. Never push objects of any kind into this productthrough cabinet slots,
as they maytouch dangerous voltage pointsor short out parts that
could result in a riskof fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any
kind on the product.
11. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemblethis product.
Take it to qualified service personnel when service or repairwork is
required.Opening or removingcovers mayexpose you to dangerous
voltages or other risks. Incorrect reassemblycan cause electric shock
when the appliance issubsequently used.

12. Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicingto qualified
service personnel underthe followingconditions:
A. When the powersupply cord is damaged orfrayed.
B. If liquid has been spilled into the product.
C. Ifthe product has been exposed to rain or water.
D. If the product does not operate normallywhen following the
operating instructions. (Adjustonlythose controls that are covered
bythe operating instructions. Improperadjustment of other controls
may result in damage andwill often require extensive repairwork
by a qualified technician.)
E. If the product has been dropped, or the cabinet has been damaged.
F. Ifthe product exhibits a distinctchange in performance.
13. Do not usethe telephone to reporta gas leak inthe vicinity ofthe leak.
Caution: Toreduce the risk of fire or injury topersons by the battery, read
and follow theseinstructions:
1. Use only the appropriate type and size Battery Pack specified inthis
Operating Guide.
2. Do not dispose of the BatteryPack in a fire. The cell may explode.
3. Do not open or mutilatethe Battery Pack. Releasedelectrolyte is
corrosive and may cause damage to the eyesor skin. It may be toxic if
swallowed.
4. Exercise care in handlingthe battery in order notto short the battery
with conducting materials such as rings, bracelets, and keys. The
battery or conductor may overheat and cause burns.
5. Charge the Battery Pack provided with or identifiedfor use with this
product only in accordance with the instructionsand limitations
specified inthe instruction manual providedfor this product.
6. Observe properpolarity orientation between the Battery Packand
batterycharger.

you don't have to waste time pushing buttons or flipping switches.

The UltraClearPlus true compander circuitry virtuallyeliminates background
noise.This innovative technologytogether with 10 differentchannels
provides you with the best possible receptionduringall of your conversations.
To help protect you against misbilled calls which might resultfrom your phone
being activated by other equipment, the XC345 has Random CodeTM
digital security which automatically selectsone of over 65 thousand digital
security codes for the Handset and Base Units.Also the AutoSecureTM
feature electronicallylocks your phonewhen the Handset isin the Base.

Im~ortant Electrical Considerations
Unplugall electrical appliances when you know an electricalstorm is
approaching. Lightning can pass throughyour householdwiring anddamage
any device connectedto it.The XC345 is no exception.
Warning: Please do not attempt to unplug any appliance during an electrical
storm.
Caution: Changes ormodificationsto thisproduct not expressly approved
by Uniden, or operation of the product in any way other than as
detailed by this Operating Guide, could void your authority to
operate this product.
Range
The XC345 is designed to achievethe maximumpossible range by
transmitting and receiving accordingto the highestspecifications.We have
ratedthis phoneto operateat a maximumdistance with the qualificationthat
the range depends upon the environment in which the telephone is used.
Manyfactors limit range, and it would be impossibleto include all the
variables in our rating. The Maximum Range ratingof the XC345 is meantto
be usedas a means of comparison against other rangeclaims.
Telephone Line Problems
If you are havingtrouble with your telephone service,you must first
disconnect your phone to determine if it is the cause of your problem. Ifyou
determinethat it isthe cause, you must leave it disconnected untilthe
trouble has been corrected.

Radio Interference
Radio interference may occasionallycause buzzing and humming inyour
cordless Handset, or clicking noises inthe Base Unit.This interference is
caused by external sources such as TV, refrigerator,vacuum cleaner,
fluorescent lighting, or electricalstorm. Your unit is NOT DEFECTIVE. If
these noises continue and are too distracting, pleasecheck around your
hometo see what appliances may be causingthe problem. In addition, we
recommendthat the Base not be plugged into a circuitthat also powers a
majorappliance because of the potential for interference. Be certain that the
antenna on the unit is fully extended.
Inthe unlikely eventthat you consistently hearother voices or distracting
transmissions on your phone,you may be receiving radio signals from
another cordless telephone or other source of interference. If you cannot
eliminatethis type of interference,you needto changeto a different channel.
Finally, it should be noted that some cordless telephones operate at
frequencies that may cause interferenceto nearbyTVs and VCRs; to
minimizeor prevent such interference,the base of the cordlesstelephone
should not be placed nearor on top of a TV or VCR; and, if interferenceis
experienced, movingthe cordless telephone farther away from the TV or
VCR will often reduceor eliminate the interference.
More Than One Cordless Telephone
Ifyou want to use more than one cordless telephone in your home,they
must operate on differentchannels. Press the channel key to select a
channel that provides the clearest communication.

Installation
Selecting a Location
Before choosing a locationfor your new phone,there are some important
guidelinesyou should consider:
.The location should be close to botha phonejack and poweroutlet.
.Keepthe Base Unitand Handsetaway from sources of electrical
noisesuch as motorsor fluorescent lighting.
.Be sure there is sufficient spaceto fully extend the Base Unit
antenna.
.The Base Unit can be placedon a desk or tabletop or mountedon a
wall plate.
.If you decide to mountyour phoneon the wall, make sure to change
the handset retainer so thatthe tab which holdsthe Handset faces
up. (See page 16for more information.)
.You should charge your new phone for 15-20 hours before
completing the installation or using the Handset.
Telephone Line Outlet
Modular Jack
Most phone equipment available now usesmodularjacks. Phone
cords are fitted with a molded plasticconnector which plugs into
this type of jack. If you do not have modular phone jacks, contar.t
your localtelephone companyfor informationabout their
installation.

Connecting the Telephone Cords
Considerthese safety guidelines before connecting the telephone cords:
CAUTION:
.Never installtelephone wiring during a lightning storm.
Nevertouch uninsulatedtelephone wires or terminals unlessthe
telephone line has been disconnected.

Applying Power to the Base Unit
The XC345 requires a standard electrical outlet (230/240volts AC), andthe
includedAC adapter. Connect the adapter as shownbelow.

Wrap the power cord around the
convenient notch onthe bottom.
Important: Place the power cord so that it does not create atrip hazard, or
where itcould become chafed and create afire or other
electrical hazards.

Desk or Tabletop Installation
1. Place the Base on a desk or
tabletop.
2. Plugthe AC Adapter cord
into the 9V DC inputjack on
the Base Unit.
3. Place the AC Adapter cord
inside the molded channel.

telephone cord into the
TELLINEjack on the Base
Unit.
5. Plugthe other end of the
cord intothe telephone jack

The unique design of your phone allows youto place the Handseton the

Direct Wall Mounting
You can mountthe phone directly on a wall. Before mountingyour phone
considerthe following:

Select a location away from electrical cables, pipes, or other items
behind the mounting location that could cause a hazard when
inserting screws into the wall.
Make sure the screws are securely fastened.
Make sure the wall material is capable of supporting the weight of
the Base Unit.

Setting the Handset Retainer
The handset retainer holds the Handset in place if your XC345 phone is
mountedon a wall.The steps below describe howto removeand replacethe
retainerso that the tab faces up.
