Telephone base installation
Install the telephone base as shown below.
Make sure that the electrical outlet is not controlled by a wall switch.
If you subscribe to digital subscriber line (DSL) high-speed Internet service
through your telephone line, you must install a DSL filter between each
telephone line cord and telephone wall jack. The filter prevents noise and caller
ID problems caused by DSL interference. Contact your DSL service provider
for more information about DSL filters.
Use only the power adapter supplied with this product. To order a
replacement, visit our website at www.vtechphones.com or
call 1 [phone]. In Canada, go to www.vtechcanada.com or
call 1 [phone].
The power adapter is intended to be correctly oriented in a vertical or
floor mount position. The prongs are not designed to hold the plug in place
if it is plugged into a ceiling, under-the-table or cabinet outlet.

Wall mounting
Your telephone comes ready for table use. If you prefer to mount your
telephone on the wall (optional), it is designed to mount on a standard
telephone wall plate.
You can mount the telephone base on the wall by position it so the mounting
studs will fit into the corresponding holes on the telephone base. Slide the
telephone base down on the mounting studs until it locks into place.

Battery installation
Install the battery as shown below.
If the battery compartment cover is on the handset, press on the indentation
and slide the cover to remove.
Plug the battery connector securely into the socket inside the handset
battery compartment, matching the color-coded label.
Place the battery with the label THIS SIDE UP facing up and the wires
inside the battery compartment.
Align the cover flat against the battery compartment, then slide it towards
the center of the handset until it clicks into place.
Charge the handset by placing it in the telephone base. The CHARGE light
is on when the handset charges.

If the handset will not be used for a long period of time, disconnect and
remove the battery to prevent any possible leakage.

Battery charging
Once you have installed the battery, the screen indicates the battery status
(see the table below). If necessary, place the handset in the telephone
base to charge the battery. For best performance, keep the handset in the
telephone base when not in use. The battery is fully charged after 16 hours of
continuous charging. See the table on page 27 for battery operating times.
If the screen is blank, you need to charge the handset without interruption for
at least 10 minutes to give the handset enough charge to use the telephone
for a short time. The handset beeps and shows BATTERY LOW. If you are
on a call in low battery mode, the handset beeps every minute.
The following table summarizes the battery charge indicators and actions
to take.

Set date and time
If you subscribe to caller ID service from your telephone service provider, the
date and time is set automatically with the next incoming call. If you do not
have caller ID service, you can set the date and time manually.
To set the date and time:
Press PROG when the handset is not in use.
Press CID or until the screen displays DATE/TIME, then
press SELECT.
When the month is flashing, press CID or until the screen displays
the correct month and then press SELECT or PROG.
When the date is flashing, press CID or until the screen displays
the correct date and then press SELECT or PROG.
When the hour is flashing, press CID or until the screen displays
the correct hour and then press SELECT or PROG.
When the minute is flashing, press CID or until the screen displays
the correct minute and then press SELECT or PROG.
When AM or PM is flashing, press CID or to choose between AM
or PM. Press SELECT or PROG to save your settings and you hear a
confirmation tone.
Press OFF to return to the idle mode.
Ringer
You can select the ringer tone.
To change the handset ringer tone:
Press PROG when the handset is not in use.
Press CID or until the screen displays RINGER: and the current setting.
Press
SELECT and the current setting flashes.
Press CID or to select RINGER: 1, 2,3, or 4.
The current setting flashes.
You hear a sample of each ringer tone as you scroll through the choices.
Press SELECT or PROG to save your selection and you hear a
confirmation tone.
Press OFF to return to the idle mode.

Ringer volume
You can adjust the ringer volume or turn the ringer off.
Press PROG when the handset is not in use.
Press CID or until the screen displays RINGER VOL: and the current
setting.
Press SELECT and the current setting flashes.
Press CID/VOL- or /VOL+ to adjust the ringer level from OFF, LOW or
HI. You hear a sample of the selected ringer level as you scroll through the
choices.
Press SELECT or PROG to save your selection and you hear a confirmation
tone.
Press OFF to return to the idle mode.
-OR-
Press and hold CID or until the screen displays RINGER VOL: and
the current setting when the handset is not in use. The current setting
flashes and you hear a sample of the ringer volume.
Press CID/VOL- or /VOL+ to adjust ringer volume from OFF, LOW or
HI. You hear a sample of the selected volume level as you scroll through
the choices.
Press SELECT or PROG to save your selection and you hear a
confirmation tone.
Press OFF to return to the idle mode.
Dial mode
If you have touch tone service, the telephone is ready to use as soon as the
battery is charged. If you have pulse (rotary) service, you need to change the
dial mode setting to pulse.
To change the setting:
Press PROG when the handset is not in use.
Press CID or until the screen displays DIAL MODE: and the current
setting, then press SELECT. The current setting flashes.
Press CID or to select TONE or PULSE.
Press SELECT or PROG to save your selection and you hear a
confirmation tone.
Press OFF to return to the idle mode.

If the ringer volume is set to OFF, RINGER OFF is displayed.
When the ringer volume is set to OFF, the handset still rings when you press
FIND HANDSET.

Clear voicemail
If you subscribe to voicemail service offered by your telephone service
provider, NEW VOICEMAIL and
icon are displayed on the handset when
you have new voicemail messages. Contact your telephone service provider
for more information and assistance about using your voicemail service.
After you have listened to all new voicemail messages, the indicators on the
handset turn off automatically.
Use the clear voicemail indicator feature when the telephone indicates that
there is new voicemail but there are none (for example, when you have
accessed your voicemail while away from home). The clear voicemail feature
only turns off the indicators; it does not delete your voicemail messages. As
long as you have new voicemail messages, your telephone service provider
continues to send the signal that turn on the indicators.
To manually turn off these indicators:
Press PROG when the handset is not in use.
Press CID or until the screen displays CLR VOICEMAIL,then press
SELECT. The screen displays CLEAR? and YES flashes.
Press SELECT or PROG to confirm your selection and you hear a
confirmation tone.
Press OFF to return to the idle mode.
Home area code
If you dial local calls using only seven digits (area code not required), you can
program your home area code so that when you receive a call within your local
area, the telephone number is automatically stored without the area code in
the call log.
To change the setting:
Press PROG when the handset is not in use.
Press CID or until the screen displays
HOME AREA CODE. then
press SELECT. The stored area code is displayed with the first digit flashing.
Use the dialing keys (0-9) to enter the desired home area code or press
CHAN/REMOVE to delete a digit.
Press SELECT or PROG to confirm and you hear a confirmation tone.
Press OFF to return to the idle mode.

Your telephone service provider may alert you of new messages with a stutter
(broken) dial tone. Contact your telephone service provider for details.
If, in the future, your telephone service provider requires you to dial the area
code when making a local call, or, if you move to a location that requires it,
delete the home area code you have already programmed following the steps
above. After you have deleted the home area code, _ _ _ appears in the display.

LCD language
The LCD language is preset to English. You can select English, Francais or
Espanol to be used in all screen displays.
To select a language:
Press PROG when the handset is not in use.
Press CID or until the screens displays LANGUAGE,then
press SELECT.
Press CID or to choose from ENGLISH, FRANCAIS or ESPANOL,
then press SELECT to save your setting and you hear a confirmation tone.
Press OFF to return to the idle mode.

Make a call
Press and then use the dialing keys (0-9) to dial the telephone number.
Predial a call
Enter the telephone number using the dialing keys (0-9), then press
to dial.
Answer a call
Press or any dialing keys (0-9, TONE or #) to answer.
End a call
Press OFF or return the handset to the telephone base to hang up.
Volume
Press CID/VOL- or /VOL+ to adjust the listening volume while on a call.
Silence the ringer
Press OFF to temporarily silence the ringer of the handset without
disconnecting the call while the telephone is ringing. The next call rings
normal at the preset volume.
Channel
Press CHAN/REMOVE to switch to a clearer channel while on a call.
Call waiting
When you subscribe to call waiting service from your telephone service
provider, you hear an alert tone if there is an incoming call while you are on
another call.
Press on the handset to put the current call on hold and take the
new call.
Press at any time to switch back and forth between calls.

The screen shows the elapsed time as you talk (in hours, minutes
and seconds).
When predialing (preview numbers before dialing), press CID or to
move to the digit and then press CHAN/REMOVE to delete or press OFF
to delete the entire entry. Press REDIAL/PAUSE to insert a dialing pause
(a Pappears).
The handset beeps if it is moved out of range while on a call.

Temporary tone dialing
The dial mode is preset to tone. If you do not have touch tone service, you
need to change the setting to pulse (page 9).
If you have pulse (rotary) service, you can change from pulse to tone dialing
during a call by pressing TONE on the handset. This is useful if you need
to send touch tone signals to access telephone banking or long distance
services.
Once you have initiated your call by dialing the phone number in pulse (rotary),
press TONE on the handset or telephone base. Now, all subsequent key
presses will be sent as touch tone signals.
After you hang up the call, the phone returns to pulse (rotary) dialing for the
next call.
Redial list
The telephone stores the five most recently dialed telephone numbers in the
redial list. When there are already five entries, the oldest entry is deleted to
make room for the new entry. Entries are shown in reverse chronological order.
Review the redial list
Press REDIAL/PAUSE when the handset is not in use.
Press VOL-/CID, VOL+/
or REDIAL/PAUSE repeatedly to browse the
redial list.
Dial a redial entry
Press , then press REDIAL/PAUSE to dial the last dialed telephone number.
-OR-
Press REDIAL/PAUSE, then press VOL-/CID, VOL+/
or REDIAL/PAUSE
until the desired entry displays.
Press to dial.
Save the last redial entry to the directory
Press REDIAL/PAUSE when the handset is not in use.
Press SELECT to save the displayed number.
Press VOL-/CID or VOL+/ to select a distinctive ringer, if desired (see
step 6 & 7 of Store a directory entry on page 14).
Delete a redial entry
Press REDIAL/PAUSE when the handset is not in use.
Press VOL-/CID, VOL+/
or REDIAL/PAUSE repeatedly to browse to the
desired entry.
Press CHAN/REMOVE to delete the displayed number.

Find handset
This feature helps you find the misplaced handset.
To start paging:
Press on the telephone base when the
telephone is not in use.
The handset rings and shows **PAGING**
on its screen.
To end paging:
Press again on the telephone base.
-OR-
Press OFF on the handset or return the handset back on the telephone base
to stop the paging tone.
Directory
The directory can store up to 20 entries (including nine speed dial entries).
Each entry may consist of a number up to 24 digits and a name up to
14 characters.
Store a directory entry
Press PROG when the handset is not in use.
The screen displays DIRECTORY.
Press SELECT. The screen shows
ENTER NAME.
Use the dialing keys (0-9) to enter the name. See the Character chart on
page 15.
Press VOL-/CID to move the cursor to the left or VOL+/to the right.
Press CHAN/REMOVE to erase a character.
Press SELECT or PROG to move to the telephone number. The screen shows
ENTER NUMBER.
Use the dialing keys (0-9) to enter the telephone number.
Press VOL-/CID to move the cursor to the left or VOL+/to the right.
Press CHAN/REMOVE to erase a digit.
Press REDIAL/PAUSE to insert a dialing pause (a Pappears).
Press SELECT or PROG. The screen shows DISTINCT RING? and the
current setting, Yor N.
Press VOL-/CID or VOL+/to choose Y(yes) if you wish to customize this
entry or choose N(no) for a normal ringer. If you choose Y, a is displayed
with the directory entry.
Press SELECT or PROG to save and you hear a confirmation tone.

Character chart
Use the dialing keys and the chart below to enter a name (up to 14 characters).
An error tone sounds if you try to enter more than 14 characters. Each press of
a particular key causes the characters to be displayed in the following order:
Review the directory
Entries are sorted alphabetically.
To review the directory:
Press VOL+/or PROG when the handset is not in use. The screen
displays DIRECTORY.
Press VOL-/CID or VOL+/ to browse.

Press the dialing key for the first letter of the name you want to search. If
necessary, press VOL-/CID or VOL+/
to select the desired entry.

When you reach the end of the list in the directory, END OF LIST is shown on
the screen and there is an error tone.
If you press a dialing key for alphabetical search while in the directory and
there are no entries starting with the letters of that key, NO DATA is displayed
on the screen.

Alphabetical search
To start an alphabetical search:
Follow the steps in Review the directory (see page 15) to enter the
directory.
Use the dialing keys to enter the letters associated with the name. For
example, if you have name entries Jenny, Jessie, Kristen and Laura in
your directory, press 5(JKL) once to see Jenny, twice to see Jessie, three
times to see Kristen, or four times to see Laura. If there is no name entry
matching your search, the next closest match in alphabetical order appears.
If necessary, press VOL-/CID, VOL+/on the handset to browse.
Dial a number from the directory
Press VOL+/or PROG when the handset is not in use. The screen
displays DIRECTORY.
Press VOL-/CID or VOL+/ to browse to the desired entry.

Press the dialing key for the first letter of the name you want to search. If
necessary, press VOL-/CID or VOL+/
to browse to the desired entry.
3. Press to dial.
Edit a directory entry
Press VOL+/or PROG when the handset is not in
use. The screen displays DIRECTORY.
Press VOL-/CID or VOL+/
to browse to the
desired entry.

Press the dialing key for the first letter of the entry you want to edit. If
necessary, press VOL-/CID or VOL+/
to browse to the desired entry.
Press SELECT and EDIT flashes.
Press SELECT and the screen shows the name and number. The cursor
appears at the beginning of the name.
Use the dialing keys (0-9) to enter the name. See the Character chart on
page 15.
Press VOL-/CID to move the cursor to the left or VOL+/to the right.
Press
CHAN/REMOVE to erase a character.
Press SELECT or PROG to move to the telephone number.
Use the dialing keys (0-9) to edit the telephone number.
Press VOL-/CID to move the cursor to the left or VOL+/to the right.
Press CHAN/REMOVE to erase a digit.
Press REDIAL/PAUSE to insert a dialing pause (a Pappears).

Delete a directory entry
Press VOL+/or PROG when the handset is not
in use. The screen displays DIRECTORY.
Press VOL-/CID or VOL+/ to browse to the
desired entry.

Press the dialing key for the first letter of the name you want to search. If
necessary, press VOL-/CID or VOL+/
to browse to the desired entry.
3. Press SELECT and then press VOL-/CID or VOL+/
until DEL flashes.
4. Press SELECT and the screen shows ERASE NO YES and the number.
The current choice flashes.
5. Press
VOL+/until YES flashes.
6. Press SELECT to confirm and you will hear a confirmation tone.
Copy a directory entry into speed dial
Press VOL+/or PROG when the handset is not
in use. The screen displays DIRECTORY.
Press VOL-/CID or VOL+/ to browse to the
desired entry.
-OR-
Press the dialing key for the first letter of the name you want to search. If
necessary, press VOL-/CID or VOL+/
to browse to the desired entry.
3. Press SELECT and then press VOL-/CID or VOL+/until SPEED flashes.
4. Press SELECT and the screen shows ENTER 1-9.
5. Press a key (1-9) to copy the desired entry from the directory to the speed
dial memory and assign the memory location, then you hear a confirmation
tone. The selected memory location number (01 through 09) displays with
the desired entry.
