DESIGN
The V-9972 allows using a spare E&M port in a
5ESS central office to access a paging system or a
Valcom Page Control Unit. The unit is designed with
the idea that the central office will be using the meet-
me function to allow the paged party to answer the
page.
The 5ESS central office seizes the unit with the E-
Lead and the unit starts an adjustable 4 to 64 second
page length timer and connects the calling party to the
page control unit/paging system. The calling party
makes their page and the page length timer
disconnects the page control/paging system and gives
the calling party optional background music. If the
paged party answers the page using the meet-me
function of the 5ESS or the calling party hangs up,
the E-Lead releases and resets the unit. If the paged
party doesn't answer, then a second adjustable 30 to
180 second timer that started when the music started
will release the unit at the programmed time.
INSTALLATION
When using this equipment, basic safety precautions
should be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric
shock, and injury to persons:

2947007
1. Never install telephone wiring during a
lightning storm.
2. Never install telephone jacks in wet locations
unless the jack is specifically designed for wet
locations.

terminals unless the telephone line has been
disconnected at the interface.
4. Use caution when installing or modifying
telephone lines.
Mounting/Connections
1. Remove the metal mounting plate from the
rear of the V-9972 enclosure. Using two #6
3/4" wood screws, mount the plate in a Vacant

system common equipment. Both mounting
holes must be utilized to insure secure
mounting of the unit.
2. Open the V-9972 enclosure to allow access to
connections and option switches. Slide the
rear of the unit (contains the board) onto the
mounting plate.
3. Using a 1/8" blade screwdriver, connect the
5ESS E & M Port to terminal screws 5, 6, 9,
and 10.
4. If music is desired, attach two wires from a
music source output to terminal screws 1 and
2. Volume is adjusted by rotating R2
clockwise.
5. Connect the Page Control Unit to terminal
screws 7 and 8.
6. Connect the Page Control Unit to terminal
screws 3 and 4 for contact closure start for
Multi-Zone or BGM Mute function. See
Figure 1.
7. Connect 48VDC power supply to terminal
screws 13 and 14.
8. Set dip switches for desired options. (See
