Step 1: Connect the active speaker to the passive speaker
Theincludedspeakerwiththemodular4conductorconnectorsmakesthis
connectionsimpleandquick.
Step 2: Connect the active speaker to the power outlet
1. Makesurethepowerswitch(4)isintheOFFposition.
2. PlugtheACpowercordintothepoweroutlet.
Step 3: Connect the active speaker to your audio device
1. Turnthevolumecontrol(1)onthespeakerandaudiodevicedowntominimum.
2. Findthecorrectinputconnectorforyouraudiodeviceontheactivespeaker
backpanel(7,11,12,or13).Connectthedeviceusingtheappropriatecableand
turniton.
3. TurnthepowerswitchtotheONposition(4).TheblueLED(9)willlightupwithin
5secondstoindicatepowertotheunit.
TIP Ifyouareusingawirelessnetworkdevice,orconnectingtoacomputerusingthe
USBport,theremaybeadditionalsetupnecessaryonyouraudiosource.Consult
thedevicemanufacturerforsetupinstructions.
TIP Whileaddingorremovingcableswiththepoweronwon’tdamageyourspeakers,
werecommendthatyouturnthemorst.
Step 4: Optimize for your space
Vanatooknowseachcustomer’senvironmentandlisteningpreferencesaredierent.
TransparentOneEncorespeakershavebass,treble,andvolumeadjustments,and
allowyoutochoosewhethertheactivespeakerisintheleftorrightposition.
1. LocatetheL–Rswitch(10)onthebackoftheactivespeaker.
2. Settheswitchtodesignatewhethertheactivespeakeristhespeakeronyour
left(L)orright(R)whenyouarefacingbothofthespeakersfromthefront.
3. Turntheaudiosourcedevicevolumeupto¾tofull.
4. Turntheactivespeakervolumeknob(1)uptothemaximumvolumeyoudesire.
5. Thisshouldprovideagoodvolumecombinationsothat,inthefuture,you
shouldonlyneedtoadjustthevolumecontrolonyouraudiodevicetoachieve
yourdesiredlisteningvolume.Adjustthevolumecombinationdownifyour
settingscausedistortion.Aswithallspeakers,prolongeddistortioncancause
permanentdamage.
6. Rotatethetreble(2)andbass(3)controlstoadjustthetoneasdesired.Inmost
cases,theoptimumsettingforaatfrequencyresponseistosetthetrebleand
bassknobsatthedetents(straightupposition).Thisisourdefaultsetting.

CUSTOMIZE CONFIGURATION SETTINGS
Nine settings can be customized on the T1E.
Sleep Mode setting—ThesesettingsallowtheT1Etobe
conguredsothatitwilleithergotosleepafter20minutesof
noaudioinputsortonevergointothesleepmode.Inthesleep
modetheT1Econsumeslessthan0.5wattsofpower.When
musicissenttoasleepingT1Eittakesabout3secondsforthe
ampliertotransitionoutofsleepmodeandstartplayingmusic.
IftheT1Eisinidlemode(notinsleepbutnotplayingmusic)it
drawsabout13wattsofpower.Whenmusicissenttoanidle
T1Ethemusicstartsplayingalmostimmediately.
Remote Enable Key setting—Bydefaulttheremote’s“Enable”
keymustbepressedbeforeanyoftheotherkeysinthe
rectangularboxontheremotewillwork.Thisistokeeptheuser
fromaccidentallybumpingabuttonandunknowinglychanging
thesettings.Theuserhas15secondstousethebuttonsin
thebox(BTPair,Treble,Bass)beforethe“Enable”keymustbe
usedagain.Theoptionalcongurationextendsthe“Enable”
keybehaviorbeyondthebuttonsintheboxtoincludethe
sourceselectionbuttons.Thisistoprotectagainstaccidentally
switchingthesource.
DSP setting—Thedefault“Shelved”DSPsettingshouldbe
usedwhenyouareplacingthespeakersonadesktoporneara
wallorcornerofyourroom.Ifyouconnectasubwoofertothe
T1EwiththeShelvedDSPsettingselected,thecrossoverto
thesubwooferissetat125Hz.AT1EsettotheShelvedDSP
settingwithasubwooferconnectedisthecongurationwhich
willresultintheloudestpossiblemusicfromtheT1E.
Theoptional“Flat”DSPsettingshouldbeusedwhenyouare
placingthespeakersonstandsatleasttwofeetawayfromany
wallorifyouareusingtheT1Eashomemixingmonitors.If
youconnectasubwoofertotheT1EwiththeFlatDSPsetting
selected,thecrossovertothesubwooferissetat80Hz.
Stereo/Mono setting—SettingtheT1EtothedefaultStereo
modewillgiveyoutrueleft/rightstereooutput.Ifyouset
theT1EtotheoptionalMonomodetheinput’sleftandright
channelsaresummedtogetherandthesamecontentisoutput
tobothspeakers.UsetheMonomodeifyouwanttotakejust
theactivespeakerwithyoutothegaragetoworkonyourcar
butdon’twanttobothertakingbothspeakers.JustsettheT1E
tomonomode,plugintheactivespeakerintopower,andpush
musictothespeakerwithyourBluetoothonyourphone.Ifyou
wanttoincludeyourpassivespeakerintheMonomodethat’s
OKtoo.
Auto Input Switch setting—Inthedefaultsettingwhenthe
T1Egoestosleepitwillautomaticallyresettheinputselection
totheAutoInputSwitchmode.Thiswayifsomeoneinyour
familyusestheremotecontroltoselectaspecicinputthen
anhourlateryouwalkintheroomyouwillalwaysknowthat
sendingmusiconanyinputwillbringtheunitoutofsleep
modeandyourmusicwillplay.Mostpeopleshouldleavethe
T1Einthissetting.
IntheoptionalsettingwhentheT1Egoestosleepitwillnot
changetheinputselection.TobringtheT1Eoutofsleepmode
theusermustplaymusiconthelastinputselectedorhitany
keyontheremotetobringtheT1Eoutofsleepmodethen
selectthedesiredinput.Thisisprobablyalessfrequently
usedsettingbutsomeusersmaynditusefulinacontrolled
environment.Anexamplefortheuseofthissettingwouldbe
ifyouhadaneighborthatwasconnectingtoyourBluetooth
receiver.YoucouldselecttheUSBinputfromyourremote
controlwhichwouldlockouttheuseofyourBluetooth.Then
whenyourT1EwenttosleepitwouldnotreverttoAutoInput
whichwouldallowyourneighbortoonceagainplayonyour
Bluetooth.Instead,thissettingwouldkeeptheUSBinput
selectedevenduringsleep.
Limiters setting—InthedefaultsettingtheT1EDSP
incorporateslimiters(sometimescalledcompressors).These
arecommonlyusedinmakingPopMusicrecordings,andhave
theeectofincreasingtheoverallplaybackvolume.Theyare
turned-onbydefaultintheT1Etobothincreasethemaximum
playbackvolumeandreducethepeakpowerdrawofthe
system.Whenthesystemisplayedatfullvolumewithheavy
bassdemandsandthelimiterturnedo,itispossibletotrigger
theprotectioncircuitresultinginatemporaryshutdown.Thisis
OK,asthecircuitisbehavingexactlyasintended,butmaybe
annoying.Thedefaultofthelimiters“Enabled”greatlyreduces
thechancesofthishappening.Thelimitercanhoweverhavea
negativeeectonthesoundathighvolumes,andsomeusers
mayndthesoundmore“open”withthelimitersdisabled.We
letyou,theuser,decide.Justnotethatthemaximumvolume
withthelimiter“Disabled”willbealittlelower,andifthe
protectioncircuittripsyou’llneedtoturnitdownalittle!
Bluetooth Enable setting—BydefaulttheBluetoothreceiver
willbroadcastthename“VanatooT1E-xxxx”wherethex’sare
replacedwithanumberuniquetoeachT1E.Thisallowsyou
toidentifytheT1EinyourBluetoothenableddevice,likeyour
phone,sothatyoucanconnecttotheT1EoverBluetooth.In
somecasesyoumaynotwanttoallowtheT1Etobroadcastits
Bluetoothname,forexampleifyoudon’twantyourneighborto
connecttoyourT1Esinthemiddleofthenightandstartplaying
Halloweenmusic.InthiscaseyoucandisabletheBluetooth
receiversonoonecanconnecttoit.
Bluetooth Pairing Time setting—BydefaulttheBluetooth
receiverisplacedinthepairingmodeanytimeitisnot
connectedtoadevice.InsomecasesyoumaywanttheT1E
toonlybeinthepairingmodeforashorttimesothatyoucan
bettercontrolwhocanconnecttotheT1E’sBluetoothreceiver.
InthiscaseyoucansettheT1EBluetoothreceivertoonlystay
inpairingmodefor2minutesafteranyofthefollowingevents:
a)Powerup,b)thePair-Progbuttonisdepressedorc)on
theremote,theEnablekeyisdepressedfollowedbythe
BTPairkey.
Afterthe2minutetimeouttheBluetoothreceiverwillnolonger
broadcastitsnamesothatnoonecanpairwithit.Anydevice
thathadpreviouslybeenpairedwiththeT1EsBluetoothwillstill
beabletoconnecttotheT1Etoplaymusiceventhoughitis
notinpairingmode.
USB Service Port Enable setting—TheUSBServiceport
canbeusedtochargecompatibledevicesupto2.0amps.By
defaultthechargingfunctionwillbedisabledanytimetheT1E
goesintosleepmode.YoucanchangethesettingoftheT1E
sothatitwillnotbeallowedtosleepiftheServiceportisbeing
usedtochargeadevice.
Default setting—Thissettingsetseachoftheoptionalsettings
totheirdefaultselectionsasnotedinthedefaultcolumninthe
tableonpage9.
Download new rmware—Thissettingallowstheusertoupdate
theT1Ermware.ShouldthisbecomenecessaryVanatoowill
providedetailedinstructionshowtoaccomplishthis.

3.WhileholdingthePair-Progbuttondown,switchthepowerbuttontoon(or“1”).
4.Whenyouseethebluepower-onblueLEDlight,releasethePair-Progbutton.Thepower-on
blueLEDwillashthreetimestosignalthenewcongurationisset.
5.Ifyouwishtocustomizeanothersetting,repeatsteps1-4.

TheT1Ecomeswitharemotecontrol.Youcanusethisremotetocontrolvariousfunctionsof
theT1E.Inaddition,someuniversalremotessupporttheVanatooremotecontrolcommands.
Checkyouruniversalremote’sdevicecompatibilitylisttoseeiftheVanatooproductsare
included.
1)Auto Command—WhentheAutoCommandissenttheT1EamplierenablestheAuto
InputSwitchingalgorithmandautomaticallyselectstheinputtoplayaccordingtothe
AutoInputSwitchingrules.
2)Analog, USB, Bluetooth, Optical Coax Commands—WheneithertheAnalog,USB,
Bluetooth,OpticalorCoaxinputselectioncommandsaresent,theT1Eamplierwilldisable
theAutoInputSwitchingalgorithmandswitchtheinputtotheinputthatwasselected.This
providesameansfortheusertoselectaninputregardlessofthehierarchyoftheAutoInput
Switchalgorithm.Howeveritcanresultinauserselectinganinputthatisnotreceivingmusic
whichwillresultinthespeakersbeingsilent.Ifforexamplemusicisbeingreceivedbythe
Bluetoothreceiverandnomusicisbeingreceivedbytheopticalinput,theniftheuserselects
“Optical”fromtheremotecontroltheresultwillbethatnomusicwillbeheardfromthe
speakers.
3)Mute Command—WhentheMutecommandissenttotheT1Etheoutputwillbemuted.
Iftheamplierisalreadymutedthenitwillbeunmuted.
4)Vol+ and Vol- Commands—WhentheVol+orVol-commandsaresenttheT1Eamplier
willeitherincreaseordecreasetheoutputvolumedependingonwhichkeyisdepressed.
Ifoneofthekeysishelddowntherateatwhichthevolumeischangedwillacceleratethe
longerthekeyisheld.Iftheamplierismutedwhenoneofthevolumecommandsissentthe
amplierwillbeunmuted.
5)Enable Command—WhentheEnablecommandissenttheT1Eamplierwillstartan
“EnableKey”15secondcountdowntimer.Duringthat15secondstheamplierwillrespond
totheBTPaircommands,Treblecommands,andBasscommands.Anycommandsreceived
fromtheBTPair,Treblecommands,orBasscommandsduringthe15secondswillcausethe
15secondcountdowntimertoberesetto15secondsandrestartthecountdownaswellas
executingtherequestedactionasdescribedbelow.
6)BT Pair Command—Ifthe15secondenabletimerisgreaterthanzero,theBTPair
commandwillforcetheBluetoothreceivertothepairingmode.Thiswillalsodisconnect
anydevicescurrentlyconnectedtotheBluetoothreceiver.DepressingtheBTPairbutton
ontheremotealsowillresettheEnablecountdowntimerto15secondsandrestartthe
countdown.
7)Treb+, Treb Mid, Treb- Commands—Ifthe15secondenabletimerisgreaterthanzero,
theTreb+orTreb-commandwillincreaseordecreasethetrebletonecontrolby1dB.
HoldingtheTreb+orTreb-remotecontrolkeydownwillnotcontinuetoincreaseor

CONNECTING TO AN OPTIONAL SUBWOOFER
VanatooT1Espeakersaredesignedtoprovideexcellentbassatlouderthannormal
listeninglevelswithouttheneedforasubwoofer.Howeverifyouareplayingverybass
heavymusic,addingasubwooferwillallowyoutoplayevenlowerbassandachievelouder
overallvolume.Whenasubwooferisconnected,theactivespeakerautomaticallydetects
theconnectionandaddsadigitalcrossovernetworkbetweentheT1Espeakersandthe
subwoofer.
1. Connecttoanypoweredsubwooferusingthe“SUBOUT”connectorontheactive
speakertotheinputofthesubwooferusingacablewithRCAconnectors.
2. Setthecrossoverfrequencyonyoursubwoofertoitsmaximumsettingordisablethe
subwoofercrossover.
3. Setthevolumecontrolonthesubwoofertodesiredlevel.
4. TheT1EsystemwillautomaticallysetthecrossoverfrequencybetweentheT1E’sand
yoursubwoofer.
CONNECTING TO A BLUETOOTH DEVICE
TheVanatooT1EhasanaptXenabledwirelessBluetoothreceiverbuiltintotheactive
speaker.ConnectingtotheT1E’sBluetoothreceiverisverysimple.Onceyoupowerupthe
T1EtheBluetoothreceiverbeginstosearchfordevicestoconnect.Whenyousee“Vanatoo
T1E-xxxx”(wherethexxxxisauniquenumberforeachT1E)onyourlistofdevicesonyour
mobiledevicejustselectitandtheconnectionwillbecompletedwithinseconds.Youcan
nowplayyourmusicwirelesslyfromyourBluetoothenabledmusicsource.Anytimeyou
wanttodisconnectyourdevicefromtheT1Eyoucaneitherdothatdirectlyonyourmusic
source(e.g.iPhoneorAndroidphone),oryoucanpushthe“Pair-Prog”buttonontheback
oftheT1Eactivespeaker,oryoucanhit“enable”followedby“BTPair”ontheremote.
TIP OnlyonedevicecanconnecttotheT1EBluetoothreceiveratatime,soifyouarehaving
problemsconnectingmakesurenootherdeviceintheareaisconnected.Youcanforceall
devicestobedisconnectedbydepressingthe“Pair-Prog”buttononthebackoftheT1E
activespeaker,oryoucanhit“enable”followedby“BTPair”ontheremote.
IfyouhappentobeusingamobiledevicetoconnecttotheT1E’sBluetoothinterface(likean
iPhoneorAndroidPhone)andyouhappentowalkoutofrangefortheBluetoothreceiveryour
musicwillstopplayingandoneofthreethingswillhappenwhenyouwalkbackintorange.
1. Ifyouareoutofrangeforonlyafewsecondsthemusicwillstopplayingwhileyouare
outofrangebutmaybeginagainautomaticallyonceyouarebackinrange.
2. Ifyouareoutofrangeforaminuteorsothenwalkbackintorangethemobile
devicemayautomaticallyreconnect(orjuststayconnected)butthemusicmaynot
automaticallybeginagain.Allyouneedtodoishitplayonyourmobiledevice’smusic
playerandthemusicwillresume.
3. Ifyouareoutofrangeformorethanaminutethenwalkbackintorangethemobile
devicewillmostlikelybedisconnectedfromtheT1Ewhichwillrequireyoutoreconnect
totheT1E’sBluetoothreceivertoplaymusicagain.
Theexactnatureofhowamobiledevicehandlesthe“outofBluetoothreceiverrange”issue
variesfromdevicetodeviceandfromrevisiontorevision.Howeverthisisnotacomplexissue
anditcanalwaysberesolvedbyeitherrestartingthemusicorreconnectingtotheT1EBluetooth
receiveroncethedeviceisbackintheBluetoothreceiver’srange.

ThetrebleandbasscanbeadjustedontheT1Eusingthetrebleandbassknobslocatedon
thebackoftheT1Eactivespeaker.Notethatboththetrebleandbasscontrolshaveadetent
atthe12o’clockposition.Thisdetentpositionisthe“at”positionforthetonecontrol.
ADJUSTING THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE POWER ON LED
TheintensityofthebluepoweronLEDcanbeadjustedtotaste.Infactitcanbeturnedo
completelyifyouwant.ToadjusttheintensityoncetheT1Esarepoweredupandtheblue
LEDisonandnomusicisplaying,holdthe“Pair-Prog”buttondownfor5seconds.Afterthe
5secondscontinuetoholdthebuttondown(donotreleaseitoryouwillhavetostartthe5
secondsoveragain).Thenrotatethevolumeknob.WhenyouhavetheblueLEDintensity
whereyoulikeitthenreleasethePair-Progbutton.That’sit.Nomoreneedofapieceofblack
electricaltapestuckonthepoweronLEDtokeepyourbedroomdark.TheblueLEDwillnow
beatthisintensityuntilyouchangeit.
TIP WhenyouhavecompletedtheLEDintensityprocessbyreleasingthePair/Progbutton
remembertoreadjustyourvolumeknobtoyourdesiredlisteninglevel.Ifyouadjustyour
LEDintensitytoaverylowintensitythenforgettoreadjustyourvolumeknobwhenyou
aredoneyoumightwonderwhyyoucannolongerhearyourmusic.
AUDIO MUSIC SOURCE PRECEDENCE
IfyouhaveyourT1Esettoautoinputswitching(thisisthedefaultsetting)andmultiple
devicesareconnectedtoyourT1Espeakers,thedeviceyouhearisautomaticallyselected
basedonthehierarchyshownbelow:
1. Analog
2. AudioUSB
3. OpticalS/PDIF
4. Coax
5. Bluetooth
Forexample,iftheT1EisconnectedtoanMP3playerviathe3.5mmanalogconnectionand
toanetworkedaudiodeviceviatheTOSLINKopticalconnection,andbothareturnedon,the
MP3playeristhesourcethatwillbeplayed.Ifhowever,theMP3playeristurnedoandthe
networkedaudiodeviceislefton,thenetworkedaudiodevicewillbethesourcethatisplayed.
When switching from a higher priority input to a lower priority input, the higher priority
input must be OFF (or silent) for 7 seconds before the T1E amplier will switch to the
lower priority input. Thisenablestheampliertodiscernbetweenthehigherinputbeing
turnedoandnormalinter-tracksilencethusavoidingswitchingtothelowerpriorityinput
betweenaudiotracks.This7secondwaittimeisnotnecessarywhenswitchingfromasource
thatislowerinprioritytoonethatishigher.Therefore,switchingfromalowerpriorityinputto
ahigherpriorityinputwillhappenalmostimmediately.

• Ifthespeakerwaspreviouslyworkingproperlybutstoppedsuddenly,thismaybetheresultoftheoutput
