1. INTRODUCTION
Pj20 tracer, hereafter referred to as "device" or "product", is a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)
wearable device designed as a technological aid to control the distance between people
(operators in workplaces, museums or events users, etc.) and the tracing of contacts in the post-
emergency management phases of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Pj20 tracer device, when worn by an operator, is able to detect other nearby devices. When
two or more operators approach each other, the device emits alarm signals based on the
estimated distance, with the possibility of configuring alarm modes (LED, sound, vibration) and
associated distance.
All alarm events, including time information, are saved into the device internal memory, in order
to be subsequently acquired in case of need, so as to have a mapping of the user's contacts in
the period prior to any possible diagnosis of Covid-19 infection.
1.1PROCEDURES
Before starting to use the device, check its integrity and carefully read the indications contained
in this user manual, in particular those in the "Safety" chapter.
Vetrya S.p.A. declines any and all responsibility if the devices are used in incompatible ways and
environments for the product integrity, safety and operation.
1.2INITIALIZATION AND CONFIGURATION
The device needs to be initialized in order to operate. Initialization must be carried out via the Pj20
Tracer Manager Mobile App (currently available for Android) by the staff in charge.
To initialize the devices, after installing the Pj20 Tracer Manager App, the user must log in with
the credentials communicated via e-mail by Vetrya (Figure 1 - Login), bring the tracker close to
the device with the App installed and click on the "Start scan" button to start scanning and track
nearby devices (Figure 2 - Start scan; Figure 3 - Device list).

By clicking on "Initialize" the device is initialized, while through the "Initialize & Configure" button
(Figure 4 - Initialization and configuration), it is possible to configure the following operating
parameters (Figure 5 - Operating parameters):
•Profile: allows you to choose between the fast response mode to enable the device to search
for other nearby tags every 2 seconds (lower latency in the response, but higher battery
consumption) and the battery save mode, to search for nearby devices every 4 seconds
(higher latency in alarm signalling, but with a simultaneous increase in battery life);
•Flash storage: allows you to set the minimum time interval for saving contact events;
•Contact distances: it is possible to set the maximum distance values at which the pre-alarm
and alarm condition is signalled (it is recommended not to change the default values);
•Alarm and Pre-Alarm: it is possible to enable the notification type (led, buzzer, vibration) both
for alarm and for pre-alarm;
•Advanced: it is possible to enable / disable the contact data log andthe device encryption data
packet (it is recommended not to change the default values).
Following the first initialization, it is possible to change the operating parameters through the
"configure" button.
After carrying out the initialization operations, it is necessary to click on the “Start Scan” button to

The devices updated to the latest firmware version can be assigned to a group by entering a
numeric value from 1 to 255 via the "Set group" command (Figure 6 - Set group). The default
group is set to 0 and all tracers generate alarm signals and track contacts.
By entering the same numerical value, a group is created. Devices with the same numeric value
are associated with the same group and do not generate alarm signals or record contact data with
each other, but continue to track and notify contacts with all the others. The app shows this
particular "idle" status with a crossed-out bell icon.
Figure 6 - Set group
Within the App, the following information is available for each device identified and displayed in
the list:
•Tag ID: Device MAC Address;
•State Tag: indicates the device status through a dot that can have the following colours:
oGreen: the device is active, correctly positioned vertically, and it is not in contact with
other nearby devices;
oBlue: device configuration is in progress;
oGrey: the device is not active (in horizontal position);
oYellow: the device is active, in vertical position, and it has located other devices in the
pre-alarm zone;
oRed: the device is active and it has come into contact with other devices within the
alarm zone.

oBlack: the device has been deactivated by pressing and holding the red button on the
device for 3 seconds (when pressed, two yellow LED flashes will follow).
•Battery Voltage Tag: indicates the device battery charge status;
•Signal Tag: indicates the Bluetooth signal strength;
•Flash Usage Tag: indicates the available device internal memory usedfor saving contact data.
FIRMWARE UPDATE
In the specific view of each tracer ID to be initialized, in addition to "Initialize" and "Initialize &
Configure", there is the "FW Upgrade" button (Figure 4 - Initialization and configuration) which
allows you to upgrade to the most recent version of the firmware (if the device has not yet been
updated). The upgrade allows you to take advantage of new features and must be carried out for
each device already in use with the firmware not updated to the latest version.
Before proceeding with the firmware update, make sure that the battery is sufficiently charged and
that the stored data backup has been made.
In the event that the firmware update fails or is interrupted, the tracer will no longer be visible in
the devices list. To restart the FW update procedure, it is necessary to carry out the following
steps: press the filter button in the upper area of the app and enable "Show DFU tags" to obtain
the list of devices that can be updated and that are in the DFU state (Download Firmware Mode).
For these devices there is the "Recover" option, which allows you to complete the update.
1.3ON /OFF INSTRUCTIONS
The configuration must be carried out by an expert technical operator.
Once initialized, the device is immediately operational. The device is always active when worn
(detection of vertical position and movement) and it only enters power-save mode when it is
positioned stationary horizontally (for example, placed on a surface).
We recommend using the power-save mode whenever the use of the device is not required to
increase the operating life of the battery.

When the device is not to be used, it is possible to switch it to "Idle" mode to save the battery by
pressing the red button for 3 seconds (followed by the yellow LED flashing). To reactivate the
tracer, you need to press the red button again.
The initialization procedure is necessary after each battery change.
1.4DEVICE USAGE
To maximize the performance of the Pj20 tracer in detecting contacts and measuring the distance
between users, it is recommended to wear the device on the chest, if you have the version with
eyelet and lanyard, or fixed to a pocket or a belt, but always in a position that is as much as
possible in the front of the user’s body. In general, to improve performance, it is recommended to
wear the devices at the same height.
When two (or more) Pj20 tracer devices approach each other, they will notify the potential warning
condition.
Two thresholds are set on the device, one for pre-alarm and one for alarm; for both, through the
Pj20 Tracer Manager App, it is possible to configure distance and notification type. It is
recommended not to change the default values.
1.5CONTACT DATA DOWNLOAD
The data associated with contact events can be downloaded in the following ways:
•through the Pj20 Tracer Manager App: positioning the device near the App, the list containing
all the nearby devices detected will be shown, just select the device from the list and click the
"Download" button.
•Through the Pj20 Tracer Kiosk App
In all cases:
•the connection, download and disconnection status is notify by the device through a warning
sound at the beginning and at the end of the procedure and through a flashing of a yellow LED
during the procedure;
•to avoid errors during the data download procedure, it is required not to move the device away
from the gateway or from the phone or tablet where the App is installed.

DO NOT power the device with batteries other than the one shown in the table. The use of different
batteries is potentially dangerous.
The replacement of the batteries must be carried out by technical personnel. To replace the
battery, a Torx screwdriver is required.
The battery replacement procedure is as follows:
1. unscrew the four screws on the rear cap of the container;
2. remove the circuit from its seat, being careful to handle the circuit from the its edges
(without directly touching the electronic components);
3. remove the old battery from the battery holder;
4. insert the new battery in the battery holder, paying attention to the polarity of the battery
according to the one shown (negative pole in contact with the circuit, positive pole in
contact with the metal blades of the battery holder);
5. insert the circuit in the container, paying attention to the circuit orientation with respect to
the container;
6. close the container by screwing the four screws on the rear cap.
It is recommended to carefully follow the precautions below:
•DO NOT insert the battery into the battery holder with the positive and negative contacts
reversed;
•DO NOT pierce or damage the battery;
•DO NOT recharge the battery;
•DO NOT short-circuit the positive and negative contacts of the battery;

plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes. If irritation or pain persists, contact a
doctor;
oThe contents of the battery can irritate the respiratory tract. Immediately go out into the
open air. If irritation persists, contact a doctor;
•DO NOT, under any circumstances, leave batteries within reach of children.
2.3WASTE DISPOSAL.
In implementation of Directives 2011/65/EU and 2012/19/EC, concerning the reduction of the use
of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, as well as the waste disposal.
The crossed-out wheelie bin shown on the equipment, on its packaging or on the attached
documentation, indicates that the product, at the end of its useful life, must be disposed of
separately from other waste.
The user must therefore transfer the equipment that has reached the end of its life to the
appropriate separate collection centres for electronic and electrotechnical wastes, or return it to
the retailer when purchasing a new equivalent type of equipment, on a one-to-one basis . The
adequate separate collection for the subsequent start-up of the decommissioned equipment for
recycling, treatment and environmentally compatible disposal, contributes to avoiding possible
negative effects on the environment and health and promotes the reuse and/or recycling of the
materials of which the equipment is composed.
In implementation of Directive 2006/66/EC, concerning the reduction of the use of hazardous
substances in batteries, as well as their disposal.
