• Do not touch the fence when it is connected to the energiser.
• The fence must not lie in water or get in touch with larger water surfaces.
• Ensure that the energiser of the fence is earthed.
• To ensure that the fence material does not touch grass, bushes or other vege-
tation it is necessary to regularly cut away any vegetation in the close proximi-
ty of the fence. (Do not cut the fence material when you cut the grass.)
• The batteries of battery operated energisers must be checked regularly. Plea-
se replace at batteries immediately. Remove the battery when the energiser
is not in use to avoid leakage.
• Do not crawl underneath the fence, do not climb over the fence or through the
individual rows. Use a gate or a specially designed, wooden step construction
for safe passing.
• Take care not to get entangled in the fence. Electric fence constructions,
which are likely to lead to the entanglement of animals or persons, must be
avoided.
• Electric fences shall be installed and operated so that they cause no hazard
to persons, animals or their surroundings.
• Children do not recognize the dangers associated with energisers and electric
fences. In all places where children are likely to be left unattended, it is there-
fore recommended to install a suitable current limiter with a resistance of not
less than 500 ohms between the energiser and the electric fence.
• The device is not suitable for the use of small children or frail people.
• Do not place ammable materials near the fence or the energiser. In case of a
re hazard, the energiser must be disconnected from the fence. You must not
disassemble and repair or change the energiser yourself in any way. Do not
touch any high voltage parts, doing so can lead to an electric shock.
• Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the energiser.
1. Introduction
This manual refers to the following energisers of the VOSS GmbH & Co. KG:

2. Important Safety Introduction
IMPORTANT: Read all instructions carefully.
• An electric fence shall not be supplied from two (or more) different energizers
or from independent fence circuits of the same energizer.
• For any two (or more) different electric fences, each supplied from a different
energizer independently timed, the distance between the wires of the two
electric fences shall be at least 2.5 m. If this gap is to be closed, this shall be
effected by means of electrically non-conductive material.
• An energizer shall not electrify barbed wire or razor wire.
• A non-electried fence incorporating barbed wire or razor wire may be used to
support one or more off-set electried wires of an electric fence. The suppor-
ting devices for the electried wires shall be constructed so as to ensure that
these wires are positioned at a minimum distance of 150 mm from the vertical
plane of the non-electried wires. The barbed wire and razor wire shall be
earthed at regular intervals.
• Where an electric fence crosses a public pathway, a non-electried gate shall
be incorporated in the electric fence at that point or a crossing by means of
a stile shall be provided. At any such crossing, the adjacent electried wires
shall carry warning plates as described above.
• Any part of an electric fence which is installed along a public road or public
thoroughfare shall be identied at frequent intervals (at least every hundred
metres) by warning signs securely fastened to the fence posts or rmly
clamped to the fence wires.
• Crossings with overhead power lines shall be avoided wherever possible.
If such a crossing cannot be avoided, it shall be made underneath the power
line and as near as possible at right angles to it.
• If connecting leads and electric fence wires are installed near an overhead
power line, their height above the ground shall not exceed 3 m.
• This height applies either side of the orthogonal projection of the outermost
conductors of the power line on the ground surface, for a distance of
– 2 m for power lines operating at a nominal voltage not exceeding 1 000 V;
– 15 m for power lines operating at a nominal voltage exceeding 1 000 V.

• Electric fences intended for deterring birds, household pet containment or trai-
ning animals such as cows need only be supplied from low output energizers
to obtain satisfactory and safe performance.
• In electric fences intended for deterring birds from roosting on buildings, no
electric fence wire shall be connected to the energizer earth electrode, if the
fence wires do not touch any metal parts. If a fence wire is connected to a
metal part (e.g. the roof gutter) or a metal structure of the building, that part
must then be earthed. A warning plate shall be tted to every point where
persons may gain ready access to the conducting materials.
• Fence wires should be installed as far away as possible from any telephone
and telegraph lines, mobile towers or radio antennas.
• The size of the warning sign shall be at least 100 mm x 200 mm.
• The background colour of both sides of the warning sign shall be yellow. The
inscription on both sides of the warning sign shall be black and shall be the
substance of CAUTION – ELECTRIC FENCE or bear the symbol:
• Ensure that all mains operated ancillary equipment connected to the electric
fence offers a degree of isolation between the fence circuit and the mains sup-
ply that meets the requirements of the respective energiser.
• Weather protection must be provided for the additional equipment, unless this
device has been certi ed by the manufacturer as suitable for outdoor use and
it is a device with a protection rating of at least IPX4.
This energiser complies with international safety regulations and is manufactured
in accordance with international standards.

Installation
Please install the energiser:
• near the electric fence
• preferably near the middle of the electric fence
• where it receives the highest solar radiation during the season
• where a good grounding can be achieved
• on a solid soil away from oods and out of the reach of animals and child-
ren (and possibly within a protective fence). In the northern hemisphere the
module surface should face south, in the southern hemisphere the module
surface should face north.
Mounting the device
The energiser can be mounted on the mounting post supplied. The post also
serves simultaneously as a grounding rod.
Connection to an electric fence
1. Pound a 1 m grounding rod almost completely into the ground.
2. Connect the black cable of the energiser to the grounding rod.
3. Connect the red cable of the energiser to the fence.
Caution! Make sure that the cables on the energiser are routed downwards in
order to prevent a collection of water on the connections.
Operation
Switching on and off
1. If the device is switched on, the LED lights at the same time the pulse is
emitted.
2. If the LED does not light, then the device is switched off, the battery is empty
or the device is faulty.
3. If there are no pulses, but the LED ashes very quickly, this means the deep
discharge protection was activated and the battery must be recharged.
Deep discharge protection
The energiser can only continue to emit pulses if the solar module has
sufciently charged the battery in order to prevent a deep discharge of the battery.
The battery can alternatively be removed and be recharged using a battery
charger. During recharging, the device must not be connected to the electric
fence.
Battery information
Charging the battery
The solar module can charge an empty battery within 3 days. For this to happen
the energiser should be switched off and enough solar radiation should be
available. The SUNNY 200 can be charged via a mains adapter
(Item-No.: 42078). In order to charge the SUNNY 800, the mains adapter with the
Item-No.: 42079 is needed. An overcharging/overheating of the battery is not
possible. IMPORTANT! While charging the device via an adapter, the device
MUST be disconnected /clamped off from the fence! The battery should be able to
power the energiser for approximately 10 to 14 days even without sunlight.
Battery protection
A deep discharge protection of the energiser occurs when the battery falls below
a certain voltage threshold. This protects the battery from damage. In this battery
protection mode, the energiser is still switched on, but no more pulses are
emitted.

Maintenance
• Clean the solar module regularly by using a soft cloth and a glass cleaner or
a mild cleaning solution mixed with water. This assures the efciency of the
solar module.
• During the transportation of the energiser, protect the solar module to prevent
damage to the glass surface.
Storage
• If the energiser is stored for a longer period of time, the battery can discharge
itself and thus can become damaged.
• When not in operation the energiser should be stored indoors, if possible near
a window, so that the sunlight can shine on the solar module. If this is not
possible, the device should be simply stored in a cool dry place. The battery
should be fully charged and disconnected. The battery should be manually
charged every six months using a suitable charger.
Control LED
• The device releases an electric impulse under normal operating conditions
every 1,1 seconds, when the battery is fully charged or the Voltage is above
12V. The LED lights up concurrently with the impulses.
• At a battery voltage between 11.2 V and 12.0 V, the energiser emits a pulse
every 3 seconds. The “ECO Mode” is switched on and the LED continues to
ash at the same interval as the impulse. The battery should be recharged.
• Below 11.2 V the device does not emit impulses anymore and the LED
ashes rapidly, the battery must be recharged.
Warning!
Do not open the device yourself and do not carry out any repairs on the energiser!
For repairs and inspections, please contact your specialist dealer from whom you
bought the device.
Error Solution
The LED light ashes, but
the fence voltage is low.
Please check if all connections and connectors of
the fence and ground connections are rmly xed
and whether they are in good condition. If neces-
sary, please remove rust.
Also make sure that the ground rod is almost
completely in the ground.
On the fence line, check if there are any leakages
due to trees, bushes or other vegetation and
remove them.
Check whether the energiser is strong enough to
power the required length of the fence. If neces-
sary, reduce the length of the fence or the number
of the fence lines. Alternatively, longer fences can
be divided into smaller separate sections, where
each is powered up by its own energiser.
Warning: never connect more than one energiser
to any one fence system.
The LED light does not
ash.
Please check whether the device is switched on.
If the battery is not sufciently charged, then the
device is possibly in the battery protection mode.
Charge the battery by placing the solar module in
such a way that the module surface faces south
in the northern hemisphere and faces north in the
southern hemisphere. If this does not charge the
battery sufciently, please remove the energiser
from the fence and charge the battery manually
using a battery charger.
If the battery is still not charged sufciently, then
the battery must be changed. Before you insert a
new battery in the device, please fully charge the
battery using a suitable charger. If the LED of the
energiser still does not light up, please contact the
dealer.
