3. Safety Precautions &
Maintenance:
3.1 Safety Precautions
Read the following safety precautions prior to using the overhead stirrer.
• The user must ensure that the OFF switch can be accessed immediately, directly
and without risk at any time, all the time.
• The unit must be secured and stable for mixing purposes.
• Remove the chuck key from the chuck prior to turning the device ON.
• To avoid uncontrolled resonant vibrational behaviour of the unit, ensure that all
components are fastened correctly. The imbalance of the output shaft, the chuck
and the stirring tools can contribute to uncontrolled vibrational behaviour.
• Never operate the overhead stirrer with the stirrer tools rotating freely. Ensure that all
human body parts, hair, jewellery, and items of clothing cannot be trapped by the
rotating parts.
• Do not place any solid particles on the unit during the motion of the impeller. Use a

• The base plate must be kept clean and intact.
• Do not try to mix liquids more than the recommended volume of liquid (H2O at room
temperature).
• Wear protective equipment in accordance with the hazardous category of the media
to be processed. Otherwise, there is a risk from:
ºSplashing and evaporation of liquids
ºRelease of toxic or combustible gases
ºEjection of parts
• Do not lift or hold the device from the power cable.

• Reduce the speed of the stirrer if:
ºThe medium splashes out of the vessel
ºThe appliance is not running smoothly
ºThe container moves on the base plate
• Process pathogenic materials in a closed vessel only under a suitable extractor
hood. Do not operate the stirrer in an explosive atmosphere, with hazardous
substances or underwater.
• Only use liquids that will not react dangerously to the extra energy produced during
processing. This also applies to any extra energy produced in alternate ways.
Examples include through light irradiation and via surrounding temperature.
