3. Safety Precautions &
Maintenance:
3.1 Safety Precautions
Read the following safety precautions prior to using the overhead stirrer.
• The user must ensure that the OFF switch can be accessed immediately, directly
and without risk at any time, all the time.
• The unit must be secured and stable for mixing purposes.
• Remove the chuck key from the chuck prior to turning the device ON.
• To avoid uncontrolled resonant vibrational behaviour of the unit, ensure that all
components are fastened correctly. The imbalance of the output shaft, the chuck
and the stirring tools can contribute to uncontrolled vibrational behaviour.
• Never operate the overhead stirrer with the stirrer tools rotating freely. Ensure that all
human body parts, hair, jewellery, and items of clothing cannot be trapped by the
rotating parts.
• Do not place any solid particles on the unit during the motion of the impeller. Use a
largecontainer,beakerorasktoavoidspillage.
• Placethedeviceonaat,stable,clean,non-slipperyandreproofsurface.
• The base plate must be kept clean and intact.
• Do not try to mix liquids more than the recommended volume of liquid (H2O at room
temperature).
• Wear protective equipment in accordance with the hazardous category of the media
to be processed. Otherwise, there is a risk from:
ºSplashing and evaporation of liquids
ºRelease of toxic or combustible gases
ºEjection of parts
• Do not lift or hold the device from the power cable.
• Donotuseadamagedbeaker,ask,chuck,oranyothercomponentforoperation.
Itmayaffecttheeciencyoftheoverheadstirrer.
• Reduce the speed of the stirrer if:
ºThe medium splashes out of the vessel
ºThe appliance is not running smoothly
ºThe container moves on the base plate
• Process pathogenic materials in a closed vessel only under a suitable extractor
hood. Do not operate the stirrer in an explosive atmosphere, with hazardous
substances or underwater.
• Only use liquids that will not react dangerously to the extra energy produced during
processing. This also applies to any extra energy produced in alternate ways.
Examples include through light irradiation and via surrounding temperature.

Power intermittent mode
The power intermittent mode allows the user to set operations to auto resume
from the remaining time upon the restorage of power. If there is a power failure or
mechanical fault, it allows the user to start where they had been interrupted during
the failure.
By default, this mode is switched OFF. Press the ‘Power Inter’ button once to activate
the mode. A LED light will indicate the mode being switched ON. Once the mode has
been turned ON, the unit will remember the last running values at the point of the
failure and resume the operation for the remaining time when the power is restored.
Operating the smart control function
By default, the standard overload protection is active with the overhead stirrer. If the
unit detects the overload in torque value more than recommended, the actual speed
of the stirrer shaft will be reduced to zero and the unit will stop with an ‘Error OL’
message. [Refer to the Troubleshooting Section for more information]
To switch the smart control function ON, press the ‘Smart Control’ button. If the torque
value is higher than the recommended value, the unit will automatically detects the
