Using the Surface Burners
These ranges are equipped with either standing pilots or electronic igniters.
Standing pilots must be lit initially with a match following the directions on
page9. The pilot light will remain lit when the burners are turned off.Toturn a
burner on again, just push in and turn the control knob to LITEand the burner
will light. Electronic ignitors automatically light the burners each time they
are used.
Control knobs must be pushed in,
then turned to LITEposition. On elec-
tronic ignitor models, the clicking
sound isthe ignitor sparking.
After the burner lights, turn the control
knob back to a desired setting. The
control knob can be set anywhere
between HIand OFFDo not cook
with the control In the LITEposition.
Surface Burner Indicators
The solid dot in the surface burner
indicator shows which surface burner
isturned on by that knob.
In Case of a Prolonged Power Failure
Surface burners with electronic ignitors can be manually lighted. Hold a lit
match near the burner and turn the control to the LITEposition. After the burner
lights, turn the control to the desired setting. Power failures will not affect Stand-
ing Pilots.

See the “Cooking Guide” tor important utensil information. Until you get
used to the sefflngs, use the following as a guide.

Using the Oven Temp Control
Baking
1. Position the racks properly before
turning on the oven. To change
rack position, pull rack out to
stop, raise front edge and lift out.
2. Setthe Oven Temp control knob
to the baking temperature you
want. The oven burner will auto-
matically light in 5060 seconds.
Racks should be placed so the top
of the food wtll be centered In the
oven. Always leave at least 1K to 2
Inches (4-5 cm) belween the sides
of the pan and the oven walls and
other pans. For more informatlon,
see the “COOkinQ Guide:
3. Preheat the oven for10 minutes
before adding food. NOTE:Oven
racks, walls and door will be hot.
Do not place food dlrecffy on
oven boffom.

4. During baking, the oven burner
will turn on and off to maintain the
temperature setting.
5. When Baking isdone, turn the
Oven Temp control knob to OFF.
Broiling
The Broiler Drawer is located below the oven door. Always broil wlth the
drawer and oven door completely closed.
1. Pull the broiler drawer open and
tilt the door panel down. 2. Place broiler pan grid so grease
can drain down sides into lower

The Oven Vent
Hot air and moisture escape from the
oven through a vent located under
the backguard. Do not block vent.
Poor baking will result. OVENVENT
Lighting Standing Pilots
To Light Cooktop Pilots:
1. Make sure all controls are OFF.
2. Remove the grates from cook-top.
Liftthe cooktop and rest on support
rod.
To light Oven Burner Pilot:
1. Make sure the oven control isOFF.
2. Remove the broiler drawer. Slide
drawer out to stops, lift both sides,
then slide the rest of the way out.
3. To Ilght, hold a lit match over the
pilot light located between the
front and back burners. The pilot
flame should be ti to 3/ein
(.635-,953 cm) high.
4. Ifthe pilot flame needs adjust-
ment, turn the pilot adjustment
screw on the manifold pipe.
5. Lower the cook-top and replace
the grates before using the sur-
face burners.
3. Hold a lit match overthe oven
burner pilot located at the rear
of the burner.
4. After the oven burner pilot isburn-
ing steady, check burner lighting
by turning the Oven Temp control
knob to a temperature above
140°F(60°C). The burner will take
5060 seconds fo light.

Caring for your range
Control Panel
1. Pull knobs straight off.
3. Wash knobs in warm soapy
water or use baking soda and
a damp, soft cloth or follow
directions provided with glass
cleaner. Rinse well and dry.
CAUTION: Do not soak or use
abrasive cleansers. They could
Nb off the marklngs.
2. Use warm soapy water, baking
soda and a damp soft cloth or
spray glass cleaner to wipe the
control panels. Rinse and wipe
dry.
4. Pushthe knobs straight back on.
Make sure they point to OFF.

Surface Burner Grates and Reflector Pans
2. Liftoff the grates.
3. Wash the grates in automatic dish-
washer or use warm soapy water
and plastic scrub pad. Rinse and
dry well.
4. Replace the grates.
Lift-Up Cooktop
1. Lift front of cook-top at corners and
swing up the support rod.
2. Carefully lower the cooktop onto
the support rod.
3. Wipe surface under cooktop with
warm soapy water. Use soapy
plastic scrub pad on stubborn
Spats.

Lift up the cooktop, following the instructions.
Wipe off surface burners with warm soapy water and a soft cloth after each
use.
Occasionally check surface burner flames for size and shape as shown. If
flames do not burn properly, you may need to remove the surface burners for
cleaning (see pagel5), or call a qualified technician for burner adjustments.
The Oven Door
Removing the oven door will make it easier to clean the oven.
Open the door to the first stop
position.
2. Hold the door at both sides and lift
off of hinges at bottom corners of
door.
3. To replace, fit the bottom corners
of the door over the ends of the
hinges.
Push the door down evenly. The
door will close only when it ison
the hinges correctly.

The Continuous-Cleaning Oven
(Model SF332BSR/ER only)
Standard oven walls are coated with smooth porcelain. Your continuous-
cleaning oven walls are coated with a special, rougher porcelain. A fat spat-
ter beads up on the smooth surface, but spreads out on the rougher surface.
The bead of fat on the smooth surface chars and turns black. The spread-out
fat on the rough surface gradyally burns away at medlum to hlgh baklng
temperatures so the oven can return to a presentably clean condition.
Using Foil
Tocatch sugar or starchy spills from pies and casseroles, use a piece of
heavy-duty aluminum foil or a shallow pan on the lower rack, slightly larger
than the cooking container.
Cleaning Tips
1. The oven racks are not coated. Clean them by hand.
2. The oven door does not get as hot as the walls. Some hand cleaning may
be needed.
3. Use aluminum foil or a shallow pan according to instructions. Spill-overs
do not burn away and may stain the bottom.

Standard Oven Cleaning
(Models SF302BSR/ER, SF302ESR/ER, SF3020SR/ER
and SF305ESR/ER)
The Standard Oven has to be hand cleaned. Use/Warm soapy water and
steel wool pads and a commercial oven cleaner. See’Cleaning
Chart” for further instructions.
Do not allow commercial oven cleaner to contact the oven seals,
thermostat or exterior surfaces of the range. Damage will occur.

If burner flames lift off ports, are
yellow, or are nolsy when turned off:
l The air/gas mixture may be incor-
rect. (Call for service.)
If burner makes a popping noise
when ON:
l Is the burner wet from washing? Let
dry.
If soil is visible on Contlnuous-
Cleaning oven finish:
l The special finish is designed to
gradually reduce oven sol1 during
normal baking or roasting. It is not
designed to keep your oven spot-
less, only presentably clean.
l The door is cooler than the oven
walls. Soil will be more visible on the
door than other areas in the oven.
See page 14for how to clean.
l Sugar and starchy spills may leave
stains. See page 14for hand clean-
ing tips. Use foil on lower mck to
catch these spills.
If cooking results aren’t what you
expected:
l Is the range level?
l Are you using pans recommended
in the ‘Cooking Guide”?
l If baking, have you allowed lY2to 2
inches (4-5 cm] on all sides of the
pans for air circulation?
l Have you preheated the oven as the
recipe calls for?
l Are the pansthe size called for in the
recipe?
l Are you following a tested recipe
from a reliable source?
l Do the cooking utensils have
smooth, flat bottoms and tit the sur-
face burners?
