Connect the plug-in power supply unit to the BXP. The device starts
automatically. Make sure that the programming device’s drivers have been
properly installed. As a rule the drivers are automatically installed on
installation of the administration software. But they can also be found on the
attached installation CD.
Connect the programming device to the PC by means of the attached USB
cable. Launch the electronic locking system administration software on your
PC and follow the instructions on the screen.
The software will then check whether a firmware update is available for your
programming device. If there is, the update must be installed.
To switch on, please push the on/o switch (9). The ring around the key
insertion slot lights up blue and a short beep is heard. Then the Winkhaus
logo and a progress bar appear. After that the start window is shown in the
display (fig. 3).
If the on/o switch (9) is pushed briefly, the system will ask you whether you
want to switch o the BXP.
In case the device does no longer respond, it can be switched o by pushing
the on/o switch very long (at least 20 s).
You can find the individual setting of the interface in the software’s
corresponding installation instructions. The programming device is able to
communicate with the administration software via USB, LAN or W-LAN (see
4.11 Settings).

Note: On installing the BXP firmware update, please
ensure that no transactions (data) are open in the
programming device memory in the process.

The preparation on the PC takes place by means of the administration
software. After the requested information has been transferred to the BXP,
please connect the device to the blueSmart component in question using
the suitable adapter cable.
Please note: You need the type A1 adapter for cylinders. Insert the adapter,
turn it about 45° and it will lock into position. You need to use a type A5
adapter if you are using readers and the intelligent door handle fitting
system.
For use of double knob cylinders of the 6x series you need the programming
device BXP BS 61 (5044573) and the adapter type A6 (included in the
BXPBS 61 scope of delivery).

In this menu, information which has previously been generated in the
application, can be transferred to the blueSmart components (cylinder,
reader, fitting). To this eect connect the BXP with the component and
choose “Programming component”. Programming is started automatically.
The various steps including confirmation can be monitored on the display.
These lists are generated in the administration software of the locking
system and are transferred to the BXP.
The battery replacement list contains information about components for
which battery replacement is necessary.
The battery status list includes components for which the current battery
status is to be ascertained.
The transactions are generated in the administration software. These may
be programmings to be performed. These transactions are indicated in lists
form.
You can access the transactions that are stored in the BXP. You can either
choose the open or the incorrect transactions to be indicated.

The last 2,000 locking transactions, so-called “events”, are stored in the
components. These events can be read out and displayed via the BXP. To do
this, the BXP is connected to the component. Selecting the menu item
“Reading out events” will automatically start the read-out process. After
successful read-out, conclusion of this process is confirmed.
Now you can view the events by choosing the item “Showing events”. The
display will then show a summary of the events that have been read out in
components lists. Select the requested components list. You can now view
the locking events of the chosen component. It is also possible to change
directly from the item menu “Reading out events” to the item “Showing
events”.
4.5 Reading out events / showing events:
Fig. 8: Cylinder list / showing events
As is the case with the components, you can also have the ID media (keys,
cards, key fobs) identfied and assigned. To this eect, please enter the key to
be identified into the BXP key slot. Cards and key fobs are placed on the
device.
The number of the ID medium as well as its period of validity are displayed.

The power adapter function only allows you to open doors for which you
have an authorised identification medium (also restricted to a certain period
of time).
Please proceed as follows:
1) Insert the key with access authorisation into the key insertion slot (4) of
the BXP device.
2) Insert the programming adapter into the cylinder to be opened.
3) Turn the programming adapter (type A1) “like you turn an authorised key”
to open the cylinder.
4.8 Power adapter function:
Fig. 11: Power adapter function
4.7 Synchronising component time:
Fig. 10: Synchronising component time
Due to environmental influences, there may be dierences between the
displayed time and the actual time over the course of time when electronic
components are operating. The item “Synchronising component time”
allows you to indicate and synchronise the time of components. If there
should be any dierences, you can touch the Sync symbol to match the time
of components with the time of the BXP. The time of the BXP is based on the
system time of the computer. If the component time diers more than 15
minutes from the system time, you will be required to authenticate it again
by reinserting the programming card. The changeover from summer to
winter time and vice versa is performed automatically.

This function is performed after battery replacement took place in one of
the components. In the process the time is reset and the counter
“Transactions after battery replacement” in the component is set to zero.
During the next communication between the BXP and the administration
software this information in the software is updated.
4.9 Battery replacement function:
Fig. 12: Batteriewechsel Funktion
With the administration software it is possible to manage several systems.
The BXP shows all the systems in this menu item. The system to be dealt with
can then be selected.
4.10 Choosing a system:
In the settings section you can select the interface between the BXP and the
software which is adjusted in the administration software. Using the menu
item “Parameters” you can adapt the BXP to your requirements. The system
information provides a survey of your BXP device.
4.11 Settings:
Fig. 13: Settings / system information
Note: If dierent systems are managed please ensure
that no transactions (data) are open in the
programming device memory at the time the system is
changed.

The batteries are recharged automatically once the device is connected with
the power cable. The battery status is shown by a symbol on the display
when the BXP is switched on. Batteries last for about 8 hours of net
programming time. Recharging time is a max. of 14 hours.
5.2 Charging the batteries:
Note: The rechargeable battery is not fully loaded when
the BXP is delivered. To charge it, first connect the
supplied power unit with a 230 V socket and then with
the BXP. For initial charging the loading time amounts
to approximately 14 hours.
5 Power supply / security notes:
5.1 BXP power supply and security notes:
There is a battery box on the underside of the BXP programming device
which contains a battery pack on delivery.
Please only use original Winkhaus accessories and spare parts. This helps to
prevent possible health and material damages. Do not modify the device in
any way. Please observe the legal regulations when disposing of unusable
batteries. Rechargeable batteries must not be discarded with the household
waste.
Only use the supplied power supply unit; the use of any other device can
lead to damages or hazards for health. Never operate a power supply unit if
it shows visible signs of damage, or if the connecting cables are visibly
damaged. The power unit for recharging batteries should only be used in
enclosed rooms, in dry surroundings and with a maximum ambient
temperature of 35 °C.
It is entirely normal that batteries, which are being charged or operated,
warm up. It is therefore recommended to position the device on a free
surface. And the rechargeable battery may not be replaced during charging
operations.
If the device is stored for a longer period of time and at an ambient
temperature above 35 °C, this may lead to a spontaneous and even a total
discharge of the battery. The device is provided with a self-resetting
protection facility against overload current at the power supply input side. If
it is triggered, the display goes out and the device cannot be switched on. In
such an event, the error, for instance a defective battery, must be removed,
and the device must be disconnected from mains power for approximately 5
minutes.
According to manufacturer specifications, rechargeable batteries can
usually be used in a temperature range from -10 °C to +45 °C. The output
capacity of the battery is strongly limited at temperatures below 0 °C.
Winkhaus therefore recommends that a use at less than 0 °C is to be avoided.
Warning: Risk of explosion if the battery is replaced
improperly. Only use original Winkhaus rechargeable
battery (item no. 5044558).

Battery operation: -10 °C to +45 °C; recommendation: 0 °C to +35 °C.
Operation with power supply unit: -10 °C to +35 °C for indoor use. In the case
of low temperatures, the device should be additionally protected by
insulation. Protection class IP 21, prevent condensation.
6 Ambient conditions:
If an error occurs during the programming or communication process
between the BXP and the bS components, it is usually due to a transmission
problem. In order to rectify such a problem, please proceed as follows:
