GettingStarted
TheX-50providesyouwithafullfeaturedwiredandwirelessrouteraswellasaSessionInitiated
Protocol(SIP)VoiceoverInternetProtocol(VoIP)TelephoneGateway,whichallowsyoutorunboth
yourdataandvoicetrafficoverthesameLocalAreaNetwork(LAN).TheX-50VoIPTelephonesystem
canconnecttoanexistingnetwork,generallywithoutreplacinganycomponents,oritcanbeusedto
createanewnetwork.
TheX-50VoIPTelephoneSystemcanisspecificallydesigntosupportupto24SIPTelephones,butis
fullyintegratedwiththeXBLUEX-2020SIPTelephones.OncetheX-50isonyournetwork,eachX-
2020telephonewillautomaticallyconnectandbecomeoperational.Thisincludesoff‐sitetelephones
forremoteworkers.
Itdoesnottakealotofnetworkingknowledgetoconnect,programoroperatetheX-50VoIP
TelephoneSystemortheX-2020telephones.

TheFront
TheLED’sonthefrontoftheX-50systemshowswhenaportisactiveorinactive.WhentheWANand
LANportsarelitblue,thentheyareconnectedandactive,whentheyarelitred,theyarenotconnected
tothenetwork.WhentheLED’s,abovethelabel“Line”,arelitsolid,itmeansthatthePSTNlineis
active.WhentheseLED’sarenotlititmeansthatthelineisidle.

Mountingthe
X50
System
The X50VoIPTelephonesystemcanbeplacedonatablehorizontallyorstandingupusingthesupplied
mountingplateoritcanbemountedonawall.
Notes:
1. WhenwallmountingtheX-50systembesurethatitishighenoughtoensureagoodwireless
broadcastsignal.
2. DonotmountorplacetheX-50systemanywherenearwater,waterpipes,boilers,furnacesor
otherdevicesthatcouldleakwater.
3. Thesystemisdesignedtooperateinanairconditionedenvironmentwithproperventilation,
havinganoptimumtemperaturerangefrom40°to95°degreesFahrenheitandarelative
humidityrangeof20to80percent.
4. Theuseofanuninterruptedpowersupply(UPS)systemwillensurethattheX‐50system
continuestooperateduringapoweroutage.ThiswillalsorequireaPoweroverEthernet(PoE)
switchtoensurethatallSIPtelephoneendpointsremainpoweredup.

Gateway
TheX-50Gatewaycanbeusedasaregulartelephonesystemmakingiteasytoinstallandoperate.
ConnectthesystemtotheInternettoactivateafewfeaturessuchasaXBLUEVoIPTelephoneLinesor
emaildeliveryofavoicemailmessage;generally,withoutchangingyourcurrentnetworkconfiguration.
IncreasethebandwidthfromyourISPtosupportmultipleoff‐sitelocationssuchashomeofficeor
remoteworkerandwhenconnectingmultiplesystemsavoicenetwork.
Connections
TheX-50systemcombinestheeaseofusingPlainOldTelephoneService(POTS)formthePublicSwitch
TelephoneNetwork(PSTN)withtheconvenienceofVoiceoverInternetProtocol(VoIP)addressing.The
X-50canaccommodateuptosixPOTStelephonelines,andtwenty‐four(24)X-2020SIPtelephones
andoneanalogtelephonesuchasaFAXmachine.ItdoesnotrequireaconnectiontotheInternet.

Connecting–StandardTelephoneLines
SomeX-50VoIPTelephoneSystemscomewithaspecialwiringharnessandaquantityoftelephone
linespliceconnectors,whichcanbeusedwhenconnectingtheTelephoneLinestotheX-50.
Usingthetelephonelinespliceconnectors,youcansplicetogetheryourtelephonelineswiththewiring
harnessandtheninserttheRJ11endsintotheportmarked“Line”ontheX-50.
Telephonelinesgenerallyfollowingaspecificcolorscheme.Onceyouunderstandthecolors,youwill
finditeasytolocateandconnectyourtelephonelines.

IfyouareconnectingtheX‐50toanexistingnetwork,itisagoodideatoconnecttothecurrent
gateway/routerandwritedownasmuchinformationasyoucanandthenenterthatinformationinto
theX‐50,basicallycreatingaduplicatedevice.ThenexchangetheX‐50forthecurrentdeviceand
reboottheISPModemandallnetworkdevices.Thisshouldmakethetransitionalmostseamless.The
followingisthetypeofinformationthatyouwillwanttolocatebeforeexchangingthedevices.

TobeginprogrammingtheX‐50withtheexistinggateway/router’sinformationortoconnecttoanew
systemconnectanEthernetcabletotheLANportoftheX‐50Gatewayandthenpowerupbothdevices.
ThedefaultIPaddressoftheLANportis192.168.10.1,whichshouldbeenterintoIPAddressbarofan
InternetWebBrowsersuchasWindowsInternetExplorer,andthenpressEnter.
TheX‐2020TelephonesandtheX‐50arefullyintegrated,usingPlugandPlay(PnP)technology.
Therefore,whenyouconnectanX‐50andoneormoreX‐2020telephonesonthesamenetwork,the
phoneswillauthenticate,beassignedanextensionnumberandbecomeoperationalwithoutany
programming.Essentially,yourX‐50Gatewayisoperatingasastandalonetelephonesystem.The
buttonslabeled1~4arepreprogrammedasthefirst4PSTNtelephonelinesandthebuttonsonthe
sidecar(ifattached)areprogrammedwiththeextensionnumbers101‐124.
Althoughthesystemwillworkthiswayitisagoodideatocompletethesetupwizard.

Foryourconvenienceaninstallationwizardwillautomaticallycomeupthefirsttimethatyouconnectto
theX‐50Gateway.
WizardSetup–MainPage
Ifyouhaveabackupofapreviousinstallation,clickonnext.
ClickontheBrowsebuttonandlocatethebackupfile.Doubleclickonthefileandthenclickonthe
UpdateSettingsbutton.Thesystemwilluploadthebackupfileandthenreboot.Whilethesystemis
rebootingthepowerbuttonwillflash,whenthepowerbuttonislitsolid,thesystemisbackonlineand
operational.
Ifyoudonothaveabackupfile,selectmanualsetupandthenpressthenextbutton.

SetupWizardMainScreen
Thereare8Tabs(sections)thatmakeupthesetupwizard.Youcantakethetimetoprogrameach
sectionasyougoorjustpress“Next”andskipoveritandprogramitatalatertime.Afteryoucomplete
thesetupwizardforthefirsttime,itisagoodideatocreateabackupandthencheckforsoftware
upgrades.
WANSettings
SelecthowtheWANportwillconnecttotheISPorexistingnetwork.SelectbetweenthedefaultDHCP,
StaticorPPPoE.Ifconnectingtoanexistingnetwork,matchtheexistinggateway/router.
1. IfyourISProuterissettoabridge,orconcurrentbridge,leaveyourWANportsettoDHCP.
2. IfyouhaveaccesstoastaticIPAddress,settheX‐50toStaticIP,andentertheIPAddress,Subnet
Address,DefaultGatewayandatleast1DNSServeraddresses.
3. Althoughrare,someISP’smayrequireyoutoconnectusingPPPoE.Ifthisisthecase,enterthe
nameandpasswordsuppliedtoyoubyyourISP.

LANSettings
EntertheIPAddressofyourexistingnetworkortheIPAddressthatyouwouldliketouse.Youcanselect
touseyourexistingDHCPServerorusetheX‐50asyournetwork’sDHCPServer.
WirelessBasic
TheX‐50hasan802.11nwirelessantennaandwillaccommodate802.11b,gandnspeeds.Atdefault,
wirelessisenabledfortheUnitedStates(countrysettingisforfrequencyandchannel)andwill
broadcasttheSSID.Ifyoudonotwanttousewireless,clickontheCheckboxtodisabletheWirelessor
hidetheSSIDbroadcast.BesuretosetwirelesssecurityafteryouaredonewiththeSetupWizard.
Whenthesystemcomesbackonline,gotoWirelessÆSecurityÆClickontheSSIDandthenselect
typeofsecurityyouwouldliketouse.

IfyouareconnectingtheX‐50totheInternetitwilluse(NetworkTimeProtocol)NTPtoautomatically
synchronizethedateandtime+GMToffset.Atdefault,thesystemissetto(GMT‐6:00)Central(United
States)Time.IfyouarenotconnectingtotheInternet,justpressthenextbuttonandsetthetime
manuallyafterthesystemrebootsattheendoftheSetupWizard.
Whenthesystemcomesbackonlineafterareboot,gotoManagementÆTimeSettingsÆInternet
Time–andselectManualTimeSettings–enterthetimein24hourformatanddateinMM/DD/YY
format.

NumberingPlan
Thedefaultnumberingplan,whichisthetelephoneextensionnumbersissetto101~125,butcanbe
changedto2digits10,11,12,etc.or4digits1001,1002,1003,etc.IfyouareusingX‐2020telephones
andyouaresatisfiedwiththisnumberingplan,youdonothavetoenteranythingatthistime.TheX‐
2020telephoneswillautomaticallyauthenticateusinganextensionnumber(101,102,103,104,etc.)as
thephonenumberandthesameextensionnumbertwice(101101,102102,103103,104104etc.)asthe
password.Inaddition,thephoneswillconnecttoaneworexistingnetworkusingDHCP,makingthem
trulyplugandplay.Youcanalsochangethepasswordsbyenteringtheextensionnumberandpassword
intheExtensionRegistrationarea.
Note:
Ifyouareusingoff‐siteorremotetelephonesitisagoodideatohavethemauthenticatewitha
specificextensionnumber.ThisisbecausetheWANportauthenticatesfirst,whichmaycause
thetelephonetoauthenticateusingadifferentextensionnumber.
Atdefault,allauthenticatedextensionsnumbered101~124willringwhenacallringsintothesystem.

XBLUEoffersafullyintegratedhighqualityVoIPtelephoneline.Tohelpeliminatefraudulententryinto
yourVoIPTelephoneLines,the“PhoneNumber”mayactuallybeaphraseandnotanactualtelephone
number.Generally,youwilluseDIDrouting–SeeTrunkDID–torouteanactualtelephonenumber.
Although,XBLUENetworkshasdoneeverythingpossibletoprotecttheSIPTrunksfrombeingclonedor
usedfraudulently,wecannotguaranteethatitwillnothappenandisdoneatyourownrisk.XBLUE
Networkscannotbeheldliable.
