2. OPERATIONALSTARTUP
2.1PREPARINGTHECOFFEEMACHINE
•Carefullyremovethemachineandallaccessoriesfromthepackaging.
Pleasenote:itisadvisedthattheoriginalpackagingiskeptforfuturetransporting.
•RemovetheWaterreservoir(1)andrinsewithclean,coldwater.
•Fillthereservoirnohigherthanthe“MAX”mark,placeitbackinthemachineensuringthat
thereservoirispositionedcorrectlyandclosethelid.
Pleasenote:Donotusesparklingwateroranyotherliquid.
•Openthelidofthecoffeebeancontainer(14),fillitwithcoffeebeansandclosethelid
again.
Pleasenote:Donotusecoffeebeanswhichhavebeentreatedwithsugarorotheradditives
duringorafterroasting,astheycoulddamagethecoffeegrinder.Repaircostsduetosuch
damagewillnotbecoveredbythewarranty.
•Thesteam/hotwaterknob(8)mustbesetoffto“0”beforeoperation.
•Fillingthesystem-Whenyouusetheapplianceforthefirsttime,thepipesinsidethe
machinemaynotyetbefilledwithwater-themachinewillsignalthiswithsymbol“E.”

Placeacupunderthenozzle(9)andopentheHotwater/Steamknob(8)tilltheunitstopsor
untilnobubblesofairflowsout.
•Pleasenote:ThismayneedtobedoneeverytimetheWaterreservoir(1)runsoutofwater
orairentersthesystem.
2.2USINGYOURMACHINEFORTHEFIRSTTIME
NOTE:Whenusingtheapplianceforthefirsttime,oriftheappliancehasnotbeenusedfor
sometime,thefirstcoffeeyoumakewillnothaveperfectaromaandshouldbediscarded.
1. Removethepowercordfromthecordcompartment(17)andplugitintoasuitableoutlet.
2. Pressthepowerswitch(16)-theon/offbutton(3)willcomeon.
3. PressandholdtheOn/offbutton(3)foratleastonesecond.Onthedisplay,thebeans
symbolwilllightupandtheOn/offbutton(3)willflash–Thesystemisheatingupfora
moment.
4. Whenthemachinehasheatedup,thesteampreheatbutton(7)willlightup.
5. Placeacupundertheheightadjustablecoffeedispensingnozzle(10)andpressthesteam
preheatbutton(7)torinsethesystemout-Atthispoint,theOn/Offbutton(3)haslitup,the
beansbuttonflashes(D)andthesteampreheatbutton(7)isalsolitup.
6. Oncetherinsingprocesshasfinished,themachinemaycontinuetoheatup.TheOn/Off
button

8. Themachineisnowreadyforuse.
RECOMMENDATION:Placeadishunderneaththedispensingnozzle(10)tocollectwater
uponrinsingthemachine.
NOTE:Themachineisshippedreadytomakeitsfirstcupofcoffee.However,werecommend
thatyoure-programthesemainsettingstosuityourpreferences.Startbyfollowingthesteps
listedunder“4.Programming”headingtoadjustthefilterandwaterhardnesssettings.

2.3SETTINGTHEGRIND
Important:Thegrindermaybeadjustedonlywhenthecoffeegrinderisinthegrinding
operation.Thecoffeegrindermaybeadaptedtosuittheroastofthecoffee.Werecommendthe
mediumsettingforallroasts.
•Withthecoffeegrinderinmotion,turntheGrindadjustmentknob(15)tothedesired
position.Thesmallerthedotnexttotheknob,thefinerthecoffeegrindswillbe.
Remember:
- lightlyroastedcoffeerequiresafinergrind
- darkroastedcoffeerequiresacoarsergrind
Selecttheoptimalsettingforyourpersonalrequirements.

3. PREPARATION
3.1SELECTINGTHEWATERQUANTITY
Withthewatervolumeadjustmentknob(2),youcandeterminetheidealwaterquantityinyourcup:
-Turnanti-clockwisetodecreasewaterquantity-smallcuponthebottomleft.
-Turnclockwisetoincreasewaterquantity-bigcuponthebottomright.
RECOMMENDATION:Todeterminetheidealwaterquantityforyourtasteorcupsize,
proceedasfollowswhenmakingyourfirstcupofcoffee:
1. Setthewaterquantityadjustmentknob(2)tothefollowingpositions:
-Anti-clockwisetotheleftforacupofespresso.
-Clockwiseallthewaytotherightforalargercup.
2. Pressandholdthe1cupselector(4)orthe2cupsselector(5)untilthedesiredstrength
appearsonthedisplay(6).Themachinewillstartmakingcoffeeuponreleasingthesebuttons.
3. Justbeforeyoureachthedesiredquantityofcoffeeinthecup,turnthewaterquantitycontrol
knob(2)slowlyanti-clockwisetotheleftuntilthemachinestopsdispensingcoffee.
4. Notethepositionshownonthewaterquantityadjustmentknob(2).

3.2SELECTINGCOFFEESTRENGTH
1. Assoonasthemachineisreadyforuse,afactorysetting(2beans)willappearonthe
symbolicdisplay(6).Youmaysetyourpreferredcoffeestrengthtothreelevels,indicatedon
thesymbolicdisplay(6)asfollows:
(SymbolA:1Bean) =about7gr.groundcoffee(forCafélatte,cappuccino)
(SymbolB:2Beans) =about9gr.groundcoffee(forCafécrème)
(SymbolC:3Beans) =about11gr.groundcoffee(forEspresso,strongcoffee)
2. Thestrengthmaybealteredbypressingandholdingthe1cupselector(4)orthe2cups
selector(5)untilthedesiredstrengthappearsonthedisplay(6).
3. WARNING:Uponreleasingthesebuttons,brewingwillautomaticallystarttocommence.

3.3BREWINGONECUPOFCOFFEE
Placeapre-heatedcupunderneaththecoffeedispensingnozzle(10).
Theheightofthecoffeedispensingnozzle(10)maybepreciselyadjustedtosuitthecupheight.
1. Setthedesiredwaterquantity(asin3.1above).
2. Pressandholdthe1cupselector(4)untilthedesiredstrengthappearsonthedisplay(6)and
releasetheselector.
3. Atthispointthemachinewillbeginthebrewing/infusionprocess.
4. Theprocessmaybeinterruptedatanytimebypressingthe1cupselector(4)or2cup
selector(5).
Important:Ifmakingcoffeeforthefirsttime,thegrindingchamberisstillempty.Afteryou
grindcoffeeforthefirsttime,the“Outofbeans”symbol(D)mayflashonthedisplay(6)andthe
machinemaynotmakecoffee.Ifthishappens,pressthe1cupselector(4)againtorepeatthe
process.

3.4BREWINGTWOCUPSOFCOFFEE
NOTE:Twogrindswillautomaticallybeperformedbythemachineuponmakingtwocupsof
coffee.
1. Placebothcupsunderthecoffeedispensingnozzle(10).
2. Setthedesiredwaterquantityforonecup.
3. Pressandholdthe2cupselector(5)untilthedesiredstrengthisshownonthedisplay(6)
andreleasetheselector.
4. Atthispointthemachinebeginsthebrewing/infusionprocessandmakestwocupsof
coffeeautomaticallyinarow.
5. Theprocessmaybeinterruptedatanytimebypressingthe1cupselector(4)or2cup
selector(5).
NOTE:Ifthemachineshouldrunoutofwaterorcoffeebeansbetweenthetwocups,orifthe
traysneedemptying,asignalwillappearandthesecondcupofcoffeewillnotbemade.Follow
theinstructionstotopupthemachineandpressonlythe1cupselector(4)tomaketheremaining
secondcupofcoffee.

3.5BREWINGWITHPRE-GROUNDCOFFEE
1. Firstturnthewaterquantitycontrolknob(2)tothedesiredquantityofwaterforonecup.
2. Openthelidtoaccessthegroundcoffeecompartment(13).
3. Fillwithalevelmeasuringscoop(19)ofgroundcoffeeandclosethelid(13).Thesymbol
(F)willappearonthedisplay(6).
4. Placethecupunderthecoffeedispensingnozzle(10)andpressthe1cupselectorbutton(4).
5. Atthispointthemachinewillbeginthebrewing/infusionprocess.
Pleasenote:Ifyouunintentionallyopenthegroundcoffeecompartmentanddonotpressthe
coffeebuttonafterputtinggroundcoffeeintoit,themachinewillautomaticallyperforma
washingcyclethroughthecoffeedispensingnozzle(10)oneminuteafterthelidisclosedand
willthenbereadyforuseagain.
Important:TheGroundcoffeefillingcompartment(13)isnotagroundcoffeestorage
compartment.Neverputmorethanonescoopintoitanduseonlyfreshlygroundorvacuum
packedcoffee.

Donotuseinstantcoffee.YoucanmakeinstantcoffeeinthecupusingtheHotWaternozzle(9)
–see3.6below.
3.6DRAWINGHOTWATER
1. PlaceacupundertheHotWaternozzle(9).
2. TurntheSteam/HotWaterknob(8)clockwisetotheright.
3. Fillthecuptothedesiredlevelandthensettheknob(8)anti-clockwiseto“0”again.
Important:Dangerofburns!Hotwatermaysplash.Thenozzle(9)reacheshightemperatures
whileinuse.Letitcooldownforafewminutesbeforetouchingitforanyreason.

3.7DRAWINGSTEAMANDFROTHINGMILK
1. PresstheSteampreheatbutton(7).
2. TheOn/Offbutton(3)willlightupandtheSteambutton(7)willflash.
3. Whenthesteamtemperaturehasbeenreached,thesteambutton(7)willlightup.
4. Immersethenozzle(9)inthecupcontainingthemilktobefoamedorheated.
5. TurntheSteam/hotwaterknob(8)clockwiseopentotheright.Important:Alittleamount
ofwaterwillcomeoutbeforethesteam.Thisisnormal.
6. Duringthesteamingprocess,theSteambutton(7)willflash.
7. Uponcompletion,turntheSteam/hotwaterknob(8)anti-clockwisebackto“0”tostopthe
steamflow.
8. PresstheSteampreheatbutton(7)torestorenormaloperationofthemachine.
•Pleasenote:Steammaycontinuetobeproducedforapproximately3minutes,afterwhich
themachinewillautomaticallystoptheprocedure.Tocontinuewiththeprocedure,turnthe
Steam/hotwaterknob(8)backto“0”andthenclockwiseright.
•Inordertofrothmilk,themetaltube(9)mustbeinitslowestposition.
